So if I hear it once more I may implode... the term gained traction in the NFL after the Rams spent a ton of assets before winning their last Super Bowl.

Since then, the term has been chronically misused.

The Rams, in 2021, had been a contender for a bit and had huge cap space issues going forward trying to keep the team together.
The season before they traded two first round picks (2020 and 2021) for Jalen Ramsey.
Prior to 2021, they traded a younger Goff and their 2022 and 2023 first round picks along with a 2021 third round pick for Matt Stafford... then they added Von miller midseason at the cost of a 2022 2nd and 3rd round pick. They also added OBJ late in the season.

While they did recoup a lot of later round picks through subsequent trades, they ultimately had traded 8 picks away in 2022... they didnt have a first rounder from 20-23.... and their cap was a mess for years...

The Steelers have a sweet cap position and a glut of future picks... signing a few old FAs is not all in

The Steelers were among the most active teams this offseason.
Without going through the acquisitions and trades, parting ways with starters Minkah, Najee, Pickens, and 2 QB’s, then making Watt the highest paid and then signing Rodgers are eye opening enough moves (or desperate) for people to say that the Steelers are “all in”.

It was Rodgers signing that made it official.

The Steelers are “all in” though Mad, “all in” for the next Tomlinship…the Steeler way.

The problem is they are going “all in” with a short stack on the table as they still have two buy ins in their pocket.

The other issue is they are going “all in” from the cutoff position where there has been a three times the pot bet from the Chiefs and then they were raised by the Eagles and the team on the button is sitting there grinning from ear to ear.

And the Steelers go “all in” from the cutoff position with pocket 6s🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Yup we’re on a two outer for sure, and need to dodge a bunch of cards on this “all in”.

Shouldn't they be all in every year?
Yes but different levels.

Steelers all in to be above .500

Clowns all in sh!t. They like to roll in it, bathe in it, but the fans can point to that one semi- recent playoff win before their collapse last season.

So different teams different levels of all in.

😁

The term all in to me means sacrificing future for the present. We can all decide if that happened. Arguments both ways.

They made multiple moves this off season so the sports media terms it “all in”. Ok, if that’s the way they see it.
To me I like to use the analogy of rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. The organization still has the exact same leadership steering the ship.
The bigger question remains, how will that change? Will Tomlin and his lackeys continue in their old ways or will we see the transformation with more innovative schemes both on offense and defense? Will we see little to no halftime adjustments or will that change as well?
That to me is the bigger question… Changes in coaching philosophies or the stays quo?
We shall see!

“All in” all, (pun intended) I would say we didn’t mortgage the future for the present. In fact I would say we set ourselves up pretty nicely with draft capital.

Id say only thing is where they will likely draft next year for QB. This will likely be another manufactured 20th overall give or take two spots either way.

Going all in shouldn’t mean sacrificing the future.
You’re terrible at poker if that’s how you utilize “all in”.

It’s just being bold enough to shove all your assets in for the big payoff at this very moment. It’s having conviction and not being scared, there is no blink to the all in…Sometimes used as a leveraged bluff, sometimes used to double/triple up. An all in should lead to winning the pot the majority of times the move is used or your timing of shoving all in sucks. It is definitely not the move for the conservative players though.

As a semi-pro poker player I can honestly say the Steelers with this front office and HC are the last guys to ever shove all in and the media just poorly used the term due to a general lack of knowledge on their part. There was some roster turnover but nothing near an all in move.

The Steelers have never went all in, they are the antithesis of a river boat gambling player willing to shove all in. They are a rock, the biggest nit at the poker table that’s ever sat down…the definition of a tight, conservative player that only takes the slightest and most calculated of risks.

Maybe they go “all in” next draft, but I highly doubt they will make a move into the top 5. More likely they’ll stay true to their conservative nature and they’ll piece together a couple assets to make a slight move up and try to address several areas with a multitude of picks hedging their bets like the ultra conservative players they are.

If/when they piece 8 picks together and make a bold move with conviction to go to the top of the draft and get their guy it will finally be their first “all in” I’ve ever witnessed…but I’m not holding my breath that such a conservative player will ever grow those sorts of balls. Also not sure an all in move will even be necessary with likely 5-6 good QB prospects coming out one should be available with a conservative move from early 20s to mid teens: and that fits the Steelers conservative nature perfectly.

Im not any level of pro poker player. But have played enough to know what all in means. They don't rebuild they reload for 12 place. They entered into 2 horrible contracts with DK and Ramsey. And probably not a great one with Watt. Like I said they continually will not look with an eye to contending big time. This is not what made this franchise great. But hey let's enjoy the 5th or so Tomlinship on a row.
