Defense can’t stop Bills when it counts ??

The one problem this team doesn't have for a change this year is on defense. I will say the scheme we run seems to get gashed on cutback runs often. It's normally in the middle of the field which has been the achilles heel for a long time.

I think they were in that defense on 3rd and 18 to just stop them from getting the first thinking Buffalo would kick the FG, isn't that the sequence where they Steelers stopped them, and Buffalo went on 4th down? I'm guessing they were in a deep coverage to stop them from getting the first down, not thinking Buffalo would go for it on 4th down.
They were outside of FG range, it was pretty obvious they would try the 4th down conversion if they got close on 3rd down, a punt would net them what? 30 yards if downed on the 10?

Defense held them to 260 yards, got two turnovers, 6-14 on 3rd downs.

"Steelers asked Devlin Hodges to throw more passes than any other rookie QB in team history in a game where they never trailed by more than 7 points. Against the 2nd ranked pass defense and 21st ranked run defense.

You're asking for trouble with that gameplan."

But let's blame the defense.

It would've been a 52 yard FG attempt, I was thinking they were closer.

That was one of the only things that pissed me off about the defense and that 3rd and long. They rushed 3. Take the gamble, blitz Allen and make it an impossibility they go for it on 4th down.

They rushed 3 but they didn't get after the QB. They tried to maintain the edge and he ran right up the middle. Where's the spy on that play? When we gave him time, he picked our defense apart.

I forgot to mention that, who was spying Allen? I saw them doing a pretty good job of it most plays.

They were outside field goal range. You could give up 7 or 10. You couldn't give up 13 or 14. That is poor strategy.

Yeah i went back and looked, it was a 52 yard FG, I thought they were closer, I agree poor strategy not having someone watching Allen who is known to run the ball.

Well I’ll tell you this. Singletary the little RB killed this vaunted defense all night long. He continuously kept drives alive.
Also, the 40 yard catch by John Brown was a killer. And when you have a team at 3rd and 18 and give up 12 yards then 4th and six and they make it, that’s a killer too.

“When it counts” thinking is idiotic. The Bills first touchdown counted just as much as their last touchdown. It’s a cumulative effort. Like when a kicker converts five 40+ FGs and then misses the final 50 yarder and gets blamed for a loss. No, it’s a team effort over four quarters.

The defense wasn't great last night, but they did play well enough to win. They played on a short field several times and gave the offense a gift and the offense fumbled it away.

Reminds me of the Seattle game. They rush 5 but they play man behind it and leave the middle wide open so Wilson can just run up the gut. It was a long 3rd down and they wouldn't have even tried to go for it on 4th down unless they got within a yard or 2 because they were ahead in the game.

Hey genius.. their QB can run! Might want to think about covering the middle of the field..
