Democrat Supporters: Persuade Me

I can add Johnson to that list as well as Kennedy.

Kennedy>Clinton>Carter>Johnson>Biden>Obama. I only listed Carter at #3 because while he was incompetent as a President, he was decent human with good intentions. Johnson destroyed the inner-city family. Biden and Obama especially, pure evil.
I don't know how old Blitz is.
I was a toddler when JFK was assassinated and vaguely remember when LBJ was President.
I'm still a toddler when I have the unlimited drink package on a cruise ship.

By today's standards JFK would be a Republican.

born 1967. Clinton was clearly the best dem president. not sure of what trog was saying

So if the Republicans had control of congress, we’d have a surplus? Oh, wait…
Uh no, I didn't say anything resembling that. It's a completely different time. The vast majority of our deficit today is mandatory spending, but neither party has the balls to tackle that. Neither party seems particularly interested in reigning in spending in general. Once the government hands out entitlements it never cuts them back. Clinton's hand was forced with welfare reform, that might be the last time we clawed any handouts back in even a small way.

But if reducing the deficit is your issue, again, which Democrat is running on that? Do you think there are enough millionaires to tax to pay for what they want the federal government to do? Did you hear how loud they screamed about DOGE, which only nibbled around the edges a bit?

Our future has been and is being stolen by both parties of congress. Nobody is doing anything to stop the spending. For Democrats, the answer is more and more taxes, and for republicans there is no answer. Doge was a nice try, but I have my doubts it was ever serious considering how easily they gave up on it.

None of America's fiscal policy is sustainable. The crash is going to be glorious and ugly. Look how crazy people go over not being able to get their EBT recharged for a couple days. Just imagine when there is absolutely nothing for anyone, and people who do have money find out it is worthless. Nobody wants to do the hard work to make things right. Just like gun control. Go after law abiding citizens rather than go into the cities and root out the criminals that are driving deaths by criminals using guns. And healthcare. Don't fix the broken system, keep running a system that needs subsidies which puts the country further in debt.

I mean, we're ******. No two ways about it. And we plebes sit here and point fingers at each other saying "Trump added x to the debt" and "Well, Biden added X to the debt faster than Trump" never taking a step back to realize they are getting spit roasted by the two major political parties in this country and that they just do not care about you, only how they can get your money, get your vote and control you along the way.

Sad but true.

It's because we allow people that are StOoPiD and do not pay taxes to vote. DIm-O-Crats court the welfare voters because dependent voting blocks keep them in power and Republicans are beholden to Retirees who demand that SSI not be touched even though it is the largest source of deficit spending. And most voters don't understand this because their IQs are about 90 and they have no ability to understand complex systems and second order effects.

I'm genuinely interested. In this thread please explain to me who exactly you support as our next president and why. Only one rule...you cannot mention Trump or explain why this candidate is better than Trump or talk in any way about how awful Trump is. (Trump after all, is not running next time).

Tell me what your candidate will do, what policies they support, what their accomplishments are and why they will be great for the country, aside from "They're not Trump".
onefor, have you been persuaded yet?

Right, because SSI was a bad idea from the start. More government almost always is. But, sell the public on the emotional vote and you screw yourself everytime.

But there's no way out of it. I started paying when I was 13 and continued to do so for the next 55 years. Now, if they wanted to give me back all that I paid in over the years as a lump sum with interest, I'd be OK with that. When it just goes into the general fund with the politicians having their hands in it over the years that's where it becomes unsustainable.

yup. Big government is like a cancer. It just grows and kills.

I believe Trump had a plan to try to reduce the deficit tremendously, and that was with the tariff revenue that we’ve been collecting.
It’s a shame that was shot down because I don’t mind paying a little extra at the cash register, if that money is going to reduce the deficit, which needs to start happening now.
