Detroit is dealing QB Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for two future first-round picks, a third-round pick and QB Jared Goff, per sources. Two former No. 1 overall picks trading places in the first blockbuster NFL trade of 2021.

My first thought was that it makes the Rams instantly better. But, does it really? And how old is Stafford again? Giving up all those picks, PLUS Goff? It may make the Rams better in 2021 (maybe), but giving up all those picks is going to bite them.

wow i thought the rams were gettig 2 1st rounders

seriously what other team was willing to give up 1 1st round pick for a 32 year old qb has won nothing

this is the Broncos getting Manning. It's a short term move but with their defense, it could mean a Super Bowl.

Detroit can now rebuild their team if they make smart picks

Those early picks aren't until 2022 and 23. I'm wondering if they'll take a chance on Trey Lance with their top pick this year. He seems like a QB with all of the physical tools, but needs a year or two to develop and they would have Goff to hold the job down until then.

Great trade for the Rams who get a superior QB AND get the hideous Geoff contract off their books. Y
The contract is why the Rams had to give the two #1 picks.

the Rams got ******...Stafford is not Manning...even the shell of Manning that went to Denver

and the lions will **** up the picks

the rams don't ask a lot of their QB in McVey's offense. It's a run first offense with play action. Goff is terrible. He can't read a defense at all and never got better. He was killing their offense. If his first read isn't open, he doesn't know what to do. Look at how fare their got with bad QB play. Stafford makes them a contender with that defense.

There is no great team in the NFL. Look at what Brady is doing with Tampa. Brady is NOT playing great. The Bucs defense has been good and they have lots of weapons. Brady is just being a good game manager and taking what the defsne gives. You can win the SB today with that. San Fran nearly won it last year doing exactly that with Jimmy Grapenuts. New Orleans won a bunch of games with washed up Brees and a RB at QB.

Wrong . Brady has thrown 47 TD passes this year and leads the league in completions over 25 yards, that is far from a game manager. and he is taking wat he wants not what s given like he did with the Cheats.

didn't he just throw 3 picks in the NFC Championship? the defense won that game for them

One was a dropped pass by Evans that would have been a TD, one was a horrible pass and one was a de facto punt on 3rd and long. They won by scoring 31 points offensively and Bradys 3 TD passes not on the defense . They would probably go to overtime if Rodgers runs it in from the 8 on 3rd down instead of throwing to a double covered Adams.

If Stafford got that much I cant imagine what Watson would get. Still think the Rams way overpaid

The two #1 picks ere to get rid of the 120 million Goff is owned with 45 million guaranteed. The Rams haven't had a # pick in 7 ears et have been to a Super Bowl 2 ears ago and have a great roster, think they know what they are doing.

sure they gave up the 2016 and 2017 1st rounders plus 2 second rounders and other picks to draft Goff....then gave up the 2018 pick for a wr not on their team anymore.

Then 2 firsts for Ramsey.

and now 2 to get rid of Goff

Yeah they don't deserve to be questioned at all......

Sorry but that's way too much to give up for Stafford at age 32 and after multiple big injuries. Plus, you still have to get him under a new contract in a year I believe. Just way too much to give up for him. I'm not sure I'd even do that for Watson but Watson would make more sense. If they got that much for Stafford, the Texans should get 3 or 4 first round picks for Watson.

I would say the Lions are running circles loving that trade but they don't draft good enough to take advantage of it. I do think Stafford is the better QB but yeah a hefty price to pay for a QB that was never clutch enough to take that team to great things. But then again the Lions suck so much that they ran two of the best players of all time into early retirement. So the Rams might be thinking that franchise held him back more than Stafford held himself back. Still an expensive gamble.

yeap, they have invested 4 1st round picks in Goff + a **** load of money. I think they still will be charged with something around 20M of their cap hit from Goff's contract

Just once I'd like the Steelers to fleece someone the way the Rams got fleeced there. I get what people are saying about the contract but after this season they can cut Goff for 15 million. But people are right. Lions will still **** it up. Its often said what a great job Tomlin did keeping ABs bullshit under wraps. I still think they should have got full value for him before it became common knowledge.

The first round picks are nice...but not worth a pint of warm owl piss if you whiff on the selections..
Plus the now have Goff's contract to deal with.

Like Sask said...they will **** it up...

Lions are the new Browns..

So the Rams should get an atta boy for giving Goff ridiculous money which took 2 first rounders just to "fix"? That's idiotic and if the Steelers just gave up 2 first rounders to get an above average aging QB, this board would implode and rightfully so.
