Did Skylar out play mason

Mason has been going up against the number 1s. Skylar again number 2/3s
I hear ya but you still have to perform. You still have to make good decisions and deliver the ball with accuracy and that’s what Skylar has done.
I think they do keep Mason though but Skylar makes some team’s roster.

Skylar has far outplayed everyone's expectations, I would assume. Yes he didn't do it against number #1's but nobody is really getting alot of looks they would get from #1's in the regular season. You cannot discredit him and credit other guys for looking good, because it's preseason and nobody is playing like it counts except for the second and 3rd stringers playing for their careers.
Skylar has definitely shown enough to keep around and give more opportunity. To put him ahead of Mason would be premature but I guarantee you Will Howard didn't get a good nights rest last night.
If Howard played like Thompson this preseason people would be anointing him the next Steelers franchise QB and calling for him to start.
From the very small sample size, Skylar looks like a guy with a good head quick reads, comfortable in the pocket, accurate and he know's exactly where the ball should go and gets it there quick. basically the anti-Justin fields

I think Ruolph's spot is safe. I can't see them not keeping him. They know what he offers. Skylar had a good preseason but was no good in his previous years in the league. I still doubt he did enough. Howard was having a good camp before getting injured. The 3rd spot is between those 2, the way I see it. I think they force Howard to IR as they've done in the past. I see no way they can lie about his condition and keep him on IR all year as they've done with other players in the past. I don't see Howard or Skylar making it to the PS without someone else grabbing them. With all that said, I still think it will be Rodgers, Rudolph, and Howard, in that order, but I won't be surprised if they do keep Skyar over Howard. BUT, if they do, it definitely signals they are going all in for a QB in the 1st round of the draft no matter what it costs them in draft capital.

Thompson played really well in the snaps he played this preseason. Overall, I’d say Rudolph did also, with the exception of last nights stretch.

BUT, there’s a talent gap there. Thompson looked very bad starting in Miami with a more talented skill room around him. Rudolph looked serviceable in his starts.

The question to me is rather - did Thompson do enough to make a roster, not QB2.

It is unfair to pick on a player for one play, but I will do so anyway in response to the playing 1s v 2s comment, which is a fair point. A 12th could have picked off that "pass" from Rudy last night. Hell, if Limus Sweed was on the field, even he probably would have caught that ball. It is not just one lay. Too many of Rudy's passes look just like that. Tom Brady deflated footballs and Rudy puts helium in them.

All I know is what I see. Regardless of whether Skylar's going against 1s, 2s/3s, the offense clicks when he's behind center. He uses all of the field (including seams routes!), he moves the sticks, and his footwork looks much better than Rudy's. And the ball seems to certainly come out quicker and with more velocity than Rudy's.

Skylar had a good preseason but was no good in his previous years in the league.
Perhaps Arthur's offense is better-suited for him?

Did he play better the snaps he played? Yes

Did he play at a level that would bump him above Rudolph on the final depth chart? I'd have to say no.
I'm here too. What does Skylar do against 1s and 2s??? We know what Rudy can do. On the INT - Rudy missed Ro on the deep route that Skylar took just before halftime w/ Scottie...

But still…it’s easier to do those things against lesser opponents. Mason may have had the same results.
The only thing Skylar proved imo is that he’s not a bad QB. That’s all.

How good he really is has yet to be determined.

I suspect the reason Skylar was not good in previous seasons is that he wasn’t used properly.

Skylar had no say in regards to what stringers he played against in preseason. That said, he just looked more comfortable than MR, more decisive and had better footwork and is more mobile. Seems he has good rapport with whoever he's in there with. Doesn't seem to look down his receivers either...Last night he looked like he went through his progressions well. My $.02.

Not only did Skylar Thompson outplay Mason this game but the previous 2 games he's outplayed him also. He should be #2 on the depth chart!

I like this kid alot! A relatively unknown coming out of Kansas State. The kid impresses me from everything I've seen. I remember his rookie year against the Bills in the playoffs....A game no one thought the Dolphins had a chance and he almost pulled the upset but lost 34-31 to the Bills.

Does a bear crap in the woods? Does a Tomlin defense crap in the playoffs?
