I'll play. I put minimum thought into this while considering the QB1 on each team and that it is just a healthy QB for one season.
1. Josh Allen
2. Patrick Mahomes
3. Joe Burrow
4. Lamar Jackson
5. Matthew Stafford
6. Jared Goff
7. CJ Stroud
8. Jordan Love
9. Justin Herbert
10. Kirk Cousins
11. Aaron Rodgers
12. Trevor Lawrence
13. Dak Prescott
14. Brock Purdy
15. Jalen Hurts
16. Baker Mayfield
17. Geno Smith
18. Tua Tagovailoa
19. Anthony Richardson
20. Kyler Murray
21. Russell Wilson
22. Daniel Jones
23. Derek Carr
24. Justin Fields
25. Will Levis
26. Kenny Pickett
27. Bryce Young
28. Jimmy Garoppolo
29. Mac Jones
30. Sam Howell
31. Desmond Ridder
32. Deshaun Watson
I'd go with
1 Mahomes
2 allen
3 burrow
4 Stroud - maybe high but he's reading the field like a vet
5 herbert - elite talent stuck on a dysfunctional team
6 stafford
7 rodgers? this is where i'd put a healthy rodgers who has a few years left but i don't know his status
8 Love - again maybe high with limited sample but he's playing at such a high level on a young team
9 Jackson
Stroud and Love are projections because they have limited starts but they have both been very impressive playing from the pocket. Not just taking the easy read, but pushing it downfield.
I will say that Lamar absolutely got better as a passer this year. This was his first season running something close to an NFL passing game. Maybe Harbaugh being so conservative stunted his growth. Up to this point, Lamar has been a limited passer. He's been like Kordell. When the plan A is working, he looks great and wins a lot of games but when he finds himself in a hole and has to throw a bunch, he struggles.
I believe today they said this was Lamar's first playoff TD pass not in the 4th quarter. In other words, all his other playoff TD passes came late against prevent defenses when they were behind.
Lamar is very effective in what he's asked to do, So is Brock Purdy. I'm not touting Purdy as a great QB. I think they said Purdy is in MVP consideration. I think that's a joke.
In general, i don't like running QBs as much. Probably jaded by the Kordell experience. I always want the QB that can read the whole field and have the arm talent to force the defense to cover the whole field.
Randall Cunningham was mainly a runner who was a big play QB, but later in his career he became a great pocket passer. Maybe Lamar will get there one day. I'm just not going to rate him like he's already there as a pocket passer.
