I think Omar has done pretty decent to date. He had a lot to clean up from Colbert’s mess.

I don't trust him drafting skill guys. Easily the worst GM in the league for that since he's been here. Metric wise 100% dead last
In a redraft situation for skill guys none of them go close to where they were drafted and the majority don't get drafted.
Maybe Washington but he is the only semi consistent drafted guy.
When you look around the league and see guys like Nacua, Irving, Achane, Purdy even Monongai drafted so late its obvious Kahn ain't it
Atleast Colbert can take credit for the steals of a lifetime like AB and Leveon.

He will improve as the other receivers step up. When a team has too many weapons to defend against, guys like DK shine.
DK had Jaxon smith njigba this years leading WR in the league across from him last year and his production was disappointing enough to get traded.
Without DK Njigba had more yards by week 10 than DK ever had in 6 seasons.

Good gosh quit cherry picking the best low round talents to complain about... 95% of guys taken after the third are utterly useless. And more than half the guys taken in the top 3 rounds are junk picks...

Drafting is mostly misses even for great GMs...
you bring up Achane? Well the second round pick Miami made before him was utter bust Cam Smith...
You mention Purdy, great well before him the 9rs GM traded a huge draft haul to draft super bust Trey Lance...

Almost all late round draft picks are busts, and honestly many 1st and 2nd rounders only work out because they are given tons of chances due to their drafted position...

You are pushing a narrative that doesnt match reality... Herbig and Washington were both home run picks..
In 2024 they got 4 rookie starters.. thats phenominal for a draft class...

Since Khan became GM, the Steelers have only drafted three skill players, all with third round picks. That's a very small sample size of players who are still early in their careers. It is too early to write off Kaleb Johnson. That leaves Darnell Washington who looks like turining into a solid player and Roman Wilson, who at this stage is looking like a miss.

So one hit, one miss and one damn if we know.

I think Kaleb is stuck behind two good players and will eventually be serviceable…

God help us. I'm not saying what will happen. Im saying what should. I doubt you get a better qb at 1.20 then Will Howard after Jets, Raiders and Browns all take. And that's just off my head. The smart play is to either sink or Swim with Howard. If you sink you will be top 10. If you swim you got your guy. I'm not convinced this team makes playoffs and doubt they will win a playoff game.

What should happen rarely does

Mike will be back- should be a distant memory already

I can’t see a single scenario where Mike rolls into such a crowning moment of his career with an untested 6th rounder as “the plan”…zero chance

So since we’re rolling with Mike again may as well discuss realistic options: Aaron returns, maybe Rivers or Flacco??? Cousins may become available…I’m sure one of the geriatrics will be willing to come clock a check.

I know it’s fun to imagine things a smart team would do, alas this is not our fate. A smart team would’ve addressed HC and QB already.

Do you understand what a skill guy is?
They have 1 good skill guy from the past how many drafts? Washington.

Exactly
None of these guys would be drafted as high as they were if they did a redraft. The problem is older than just Kahn. Regardless
If you have next to Zero production from any skill guy you have drafted, thats never going to work.

You build from the lines out. Kahn isnt the talent scout. He is the contract guy. Most teams would kill for the early returns on our recent drafts.
Kahn has had 21 draft picks. Based on offensive abd defensive starter positions, 4-5 of those should have been offensive skill positions, he has drafted 4, 1wr, 1Te,1rb and 1qb... the TE has overperformed his draft position, the Wr has underperformed it, the RB abd QB cant be judged because both were slated for 3rd string duties this year and you cant really judge any of these guys yet...

You just have an obsession about complaining about Kahn... he isnt even the guy really making these picks...

Bottom line. DK is as advertised. About 1k and 7-10 tds. Pair him with a cheap #1-2 kid out of college and you might have something to throw to. Look like it or not stuck with Tomlin through 2026 probably 2027. Gotta hope for the best. But for God sake no #20 overall QB. And no re-tread either. Will Howard startes and Rudy backs up. You arent finding a better QB in this class at 1.20 or lower.
We might go in with Rudy starting and Howard backing up. We haven't even seen Howard in a preseason game have we?

That would make zero sense unless you want to win 6 or 7 games and have no idea what Will Howard is and be right back here next year. Why is Miami playing Ewers this week instead of Cougar Hunter Wilson?

Any "plan" he has is a 6 or 7 win guy too. Unless you are talking about Rodgers again and you can clearly see that this is a fringe playoff team with Rodgers and a ton of money blown on bad contracts. Like the team around him isn't going to be better next year. No chance.

Excellent post and point, thank you Aussie_Steeler

I might add that Wilson’s injury rookie year has set him back or something in the coaching process has slowed his on field appearance.

He has to figure it out and make his mark or exit with end of his rookie contract.

And still rarely use him. This season......26 catches for 313 yards and a TD. Simply crazy!!!!! Way under used. Looking at his career stats is sick to the stomach....how they have wasted his talent in this offensive system.

NO preseason game yet, injured.

I think this year “off” is a very good deal with aaaa-Ron tutoring along the way.

If possible, feed him some snaps while resting starters…….. if that is an option.

Sometimes you need to play these players.......how else will they figure it out. Troy's rookie year he looked lost most of the time....but he was out there playing. Game in and game out. Sitting a player's week in and out or year in and out might not be the avenue to go. If you want the to succeed or develope.

Our overall developement of young players is lethargic at best.

The whole system / scheme / coaching is to fault and should be replaced.

You missed my point - two of those drafted skill players it is too early to judge. 3 draft picks in the third round, one of whom is still in his rookie season, is not a large enough sample size to conclude that Khan doesn't know how to draft skill players. Let's wait until he's drafted half a dozen, including at least two in the first two rounds and they've actually had a chance to establish themselves before making judgements about his ability (or inability) to draft skill players.

I think Aaron Rodgers retires and Tomlin will push hard for another veteran retread QB.
I’m thinking Cousins, Murray or even Richardson.
I just think Tomlin is terrified to go with a young, unproven QB.
I. hope Howard gets a fair shot at least. Cousins and Richardson i wouldn't touch with a 10ft pole. Murray would probably be ok but he gets hurt alot. Tua will probably be available, but that wouldn't go over well
