DON SHULA passes away at 90 RIP

One thing about Shula teams everybody tackled everybody blocked great respect for the nature and fundamentals of the game. Those 70’s teams... Steelers dolphins raiders cowboys tuff tuff tuff
 
Great, great Coach. About 5 years ago or so, my wife and I were in Charlotte airport for a flight to Fort Lauderdale. I was sitting on the aisle seat and this older gentleman came in with a walker just a few moments before closing the hatch. I thought, that's Don Shula. He looked at me, our eyes met, and I supposed that he thought that I recognized him. He was assisted to his first class seat.
 
All the respect for him and his coaching style / teams / demeanor / respect of the game / players / ect.. Don was a coach of the game and may he R.I.P

As people know Bradshaw and Noll had a rocky relationship but is was nothing compared to Shula and Unitas with the Colts.. Units despised Shula and refused to speak to him in game.
 
Here is Unitas's quote on Shula.

“If [Shula] was standing here right now, and he was on fire, I wouldn’t piss on him to put it out,” Unitas told a mutual friend just a few years before he died in 2002, Gilden relates.
 
The Dolphins were one of the first teams I followed outside of Pittsburgh because of Shula and Marino. We need more guys like Coach Shula in the NFL.

I was waiting to see if anyone would mention it but we all can thank Shula to a certain degree for our SB victories. When Shula coached the Colts in my birth year ( yeah that long ago) Noll was his DC, he recommended Noll to the Steelers. How much did that weigh in on the Steelers decide to hire him? That can be a matter of debate but I am sure it weighed in somewhat if not significantly.

An amazing time in the NFL where as teams actually cared about their competition, as a whole they were trying to improve. TODAY's day and age, some teams go way out of their way to defeat the other teams, caring less of what ever damage is being caused to the league in general.

YES slash, Shula was a man with integrety and publicly showed his core to the betterment of the state.

Time flies, seems like he just retired not long ago but its been 25 years. Wow... The Dolphins have not done so well during that stretch only winning 3 wildcard games since then. Been through more than a few coaches too.

RIP Coach Shula.
 
A Classy Coach and Outstanding Man.

When he coached the Dolphins and you played them you had your hands full the entire 60 minutes.
