Eli must wait

i can see why - there are only 32 starting quarterbacks in the NFL. From the same era, you have Brady, Peyton Manning, Roethlisberger and Rodgers all definitely ahead of Eli, and Brees is probably also ahead of Eli. Then there's Philip Rivers and Russell Wilson to consider. Being number six at the position places him outside the top 15% of players at his position, being seventh best, places him outside top 20%, and even being 5th best places him marginally outside top 15%.

Hall of Fame should be for the best of the best. Once you start putting players who weren't in the top 15% at their position in the Hall, to me it is no longer the hall of fame, but the hall of very good.

And looking to the next few years - next year Brees and Rivers will be eligible, then Roethlisberger the following year, and Brady the year after that.

I had to look that up……he was117-117. I was a little surprised at that.

I think we all have a little soft spot in our heart for Eli. Beating the Pricks when it mattered meant one hell of a lot.

Ok hang on now...You can make your arguments for the first list of guys, but when you get to Rivers and Wilson...that's where I'm gonna say no. Just with Wilson alone. It's a well known fact that Eli played behind some of the worst offensive lines, hell the Giants STILL haven't fixed their OL. But when you really start digging, and looking at stats for both Eli and Wilson, you start to see things. Example, the most yards Wilson ever threw for, 4,219. In fact, in his 13 year career, he's only thrown for over 4,000 yards 4 times. Eli did it 7 times and just missed 5,000 yards by 67 yards in 2011. His TD/INT ratio is impressive, but then you can easily see why when you look at his sacks. Eli's highest sacked season was 2018, he was sacked 47 times. Until that season, he had never been sacked more than 39 times in a season and only over 30 times 3 times. So Eli didn't eat the ball and take sacks, he was more of a risk taker. Wilson on the other hand, has never been sacked LESS than 33 times (including this year when he played 11 games), been sacked over 50 times in a season twice, and over 40 times 8 times. Wilson has 3 less seasons than Eli and has been sacked 149 times more.

I think Eli catches a lot of strays due to his last name. I mean you look at Drew Brees, he threw for a lot of yards, and his completion % is high, but until the last four years of his career, he threw a lot of interceptions as well. He played on some bad teams too. It's not like the Giants were ever truly loaded, not like the SD teams that Rivers was on that could never win anything. First ballot, maybe not, but lets not get crazy talking about him like he was trash. Playoff Eli was a different QB, especially their two SB runs. His 2011 were incredible. 4 games, 65% 1,219 yards, 7.5ypa 9 TD 1 INT, 103.3 rating, in the playoffs, when it mattered most.

I can see Eli not being a 1st ballot guy and I could see the other side of it too, as he won 2 SB's.

Here's what gets me, how the **** do Sterling Sharpe and Eric Allen make it, and Ward doesn't??? I do think Sharpe was a HOF caliber guy, but only played what 7 seasons? No super bowls, Eric Allen wasn't a HOF caliber guy IMO.

Personally, I don't see Ben making it in first ballot either. I do believe he IS a first ballot HOF player, but the NFL has a poor attitude in regard to his early career and I see him snubbed. The guy has more than made up with his early BS, being a man in servitude with many mission trips and charity work with his family.

here’s the HOF class. I assume some old timers will be added later.
Jared Allen DE
Eric Allen CB
Antonio Gates TE
Sterling Sharpe WR

The biggest snub is LB Luke Kuechly. One of the greatest LB of all time.

I hear what you are saying, but Ben has to good a resume to be snubbed from 1st ballot HOF induction.

Add in the fact that the next year would be t*mmyb*y and you can’t have both in the same as the STEELERS fandom would take over and they’d have to clear the facility to even get a chance to announce cheater.

Is there any way they could hold Ben off for a couple years???????

My opinion is he is in 1st ballot, I hope I’m not Tomlinized with false hope…………….

If they pushed Eli this year, they could do the same thing and push Ben. Both could still have to wait for Marsha to get in although I still think Ben has earned that 1st ballot HOF designation.

I can't see Ben not getting 1st ballot, 5th most wins by a QB, 8th all time in TD's passes, 6th all time in yards, 3rd all time in post season yards, he's 8 all time in post season wins, 2 SB's. He played the position different than anyone before, and he has the most 500 yards passing games ever and I think the only QB with back to back 6 TD games.

Eli is 15th all time in wins, Eli is outside the top 10 in TD's and yards, Eli has a .500 record as a QB,

Yep, I'm just preparing myself for the WTF?!?!?! moment if they do snub him. I go back and watch games just to watch HIM play. Damn was he tough. Especially the years with Heeeeeeaaaatthhhhhhh!.

Ben SHOULD be a first ballot HOFer without a doubt based on his numbers and three SB appearances.
Now I do worry about these voters if they will hold his legal issues against him. I hope not because first he wasn’t actually charged with anything and second his play on the field is very deserving.
I was surprised by the Manning thing since he seems to be a media darling and played in NY and is a Manning. I really dont think he deserved first ballot but most likely will be second ballot.
Ben better be first ballot!

PS

What is Ben’s greatest accolade?

I think that 13-0 as a rookie has to be pretty significant.

back to back 6 TD games, 3-500+ yard passing games, Fastest to 50 wins, come from behind wins——————-?

Best pump fake in the game.

Drawing plays up "in the dirt" to lead many of his come-from-behind wins.

I chose to remain positive on this one. I think he gets in first ballot. The guy was a highlight package reel. The drive. The throw. The tackle. The back to back 6 TD games. The 500 yard games. The broken nose. The multiple examples of shaking people off and making the plays. The rings.
