There could be some serious dominoes. No QB and a ton of draft picks could mean for a quick roster turnover. This team has some good foundational pieces in place, but what about the aging veterans? Does anyone expect any major shakeups?

Cam Heyward
Jalen Ramsey
TJ Watt
Jonnu Smith
Patrick Queen

Only one on that list i would consider is cam and Tj. And cam should be ready for retirement but he was pretty good this year.
TJ is a matter of the money now. He didnt earn his pay check this year , imo.

My order of leaving

1 Smith
2 Ramsey
3 Heyward
4 queen
5 TJ

Ramsey and Haywerd are interchangeable or both.

TJ won’t be gone due to face of the Steelers, Art 2 will keep him, possible restructure.

Salute the nation

I saw this post which got me thinking. The Steelers couldn't get rid of Porter fast enough when Tomlin arrived.

Especially in a year without having to pay a franchise QB.
I think you could add Muuth and Highsmith to list of tradeable assets.

I think the first signal will be tge handling of DK's contract guarantees.....did Tomlin make commitments, or was it the FO post his suspension? The transition away from DK would be much easier without his contract albatross.

I did wonder if Tomlin leaving might be the catalyst for Heyward to retire. I would expect if Heyward and Ramsey are to stay their contracts would get some reworking or straight out pay cuts, given Heyward is due about $14.5m (I'm not including his $4.9m dead money) and Ramsey $17.5m.

May be doable from the Steelers side, but a team trading for Watt will be taking on $32m per year in guarantees for 2026 and 2027.

I was going to say that Heyward has $14.5 million reasons to not retire.

I'm torn about TJ. no one will give us a one or two for TJ IMHO. I would also like to see what he could do if we had a DC that actually knew how to use him ala helmet basher. If they lined Garret up in the same spot for 90% of his snaps no way he gets the sack record this year. I think I read some where that TJ was the most chipped DE in the nfl. IDK I just think he has more to give.

Teams that are close and need D would. Chicago and Buffalo instantly come to mind.

Keeping ramsey on that contract is absurd, either both sides rework it or he gets axed and tests FA

Jonnu is my biggest disappointment of the season. Get whatever you can for him, a 7th should be fine.

Letting both go for nothing would mean we dealt minkah for literally a year of ramsey, a year of mediocrity by the way.

As Chuck Noll famously said in his first training camp in 1969 when asked, "Will it be difficult to decide who to cut?"

"No, it will be difficult to decide who to keep."

Noll was a master of dry humor.

This is my take. He needs to prowl the line. He was shackled by scheme.

Big time, we see guys like Khalil Mack still being productive in the right scheme, he's 34. Danielle Hunter is actually 3 weeks older than Watt. Von Miller is 36 and just had 9 sacks for washington in a pass rush only role. Clowney, a year older than Watt with 8.5 sacks and he's never been as good as Watt has. Scheme is 100% the reason Watt didn't have the numbers this year.

I can't find official numbers, and I'm not signing up for PFF, but AI search has Watts chip rate for 2025 near 44% of his pass rush attempts. And teams can do this easily, as they pointed out in the broadcast Monday night, because TJ is rushing from the offensive right side 98% of the time. Scheme, scheme, scheme...

There's no way to get all of Shades' stink off of this squad in a single off season. I hate the idea, but this team needs a 100% rebuild. The OL stinks. The DL is young, but has been largely ineffective. Got gashed by a team last night that hadn't been able to run the ball well all season! ILBs? Not good. OLBs? Get what you can. Porter and Samuels can play CB, other than that the secondary is garbage. I like our RBs. Dump all of the WRs and start over. TEs? Pfft! Decided to pay Muth $12 per year then only target him 54 times! And he caught 80% of the targets with an average of nearly 12 yds per catch. WTF? Muth and Washington...Smith is stupid and washed up. Gone!

Clean house. Get a professional in to fumigate the whole place. Gut Shades' office or burn it to the ground! Get everything you can from every one of these overpaid, underperforming, over the hill players. Take some lumps, but pick up all of the draft capital you can and start to build a decent team.

I hate to even think this when it comes to a Watt, but with the rumors being “one prominent” player was pushing for Tomlin to go, is it possible he’s just been going through the motions? Again, I hate to even consider that, but at his age, another failure, no post season success while being committed to the team (previously), I can’t say I’d blame him. Especially when you listen to his post game presser Monday night, and last year against the rats.

THis team has a lot of opportunities to improve its roster.
The last thing I would do at the moment, is to release two Hall of Fame, team leader, defensive players that you know care and give everything they got. I know they’re both not the players they used to be, but Considering all the changes this team is going to go through this off-season and in the next year, moving Hayward and Watt off this roster is not helpful, especially to the new regime coming in. If I was a young coach, probably with my first NFL head coaching job, I would certainly want Cam and TJ in the room every day.
Besides that reason, I believe they both have a year, possibly two productive seasons, left in them.
