Folks in Congress clearly aren't getting the message

That’s terrible. Bad as it is, I’m still struggling with $15 million to pay for Egyptian’s college tuition. By gosh, somebody on this planet is going to get free tuition on the backs of the American taxpayers. Nobody in America should be in favor of any of this. It’s robbery, no other way to say it.
It's a kick back to the DNC pockets.

What gives me hope is that Americans are starting to voice their displeasure as a whole with all of this bullshit waste. People are tired of being overworked, overtaxed and underpaid only to watch elected officials waste it all on everything but the people they stole it from.

This bill shows they do not care about the plight of the people they “represent” if it wasn’t already evident. I firmly believe, perhaps for the first time, that if these cats in Washington don’t get their **** together it is going to escalate to some sort of violence.

There is a large group of folks in DC, both republicans and democrats, who did not get the message on November 5th. The way stuff is going, I have a feeling the next message may not be as polite. Folks are fed up.

I completely agree.

No, it never came to a vote after the listed (R)'s said "no way." Once those 9 said "take a hike," the spineless Mike Johnson knew the thing was DOA and never brought it up.

"oH mY GoDd, tHe GoVeRnMenT WiL ShUt DoWn!"

No, just small portions of non-essentials shut down. The military is funded, entitlements keep churning out checks, etc. The entire government shut-down apoplexy is a lie. The Fed has had 10 shutdowns since 1990. How many of us even noticed? Yep, nobody.
Add in that those who are furloughed will eventually get paid for the days they did not work.

Every government “shutdown” we never get furloughed. Our company is somehow always exempt and we get paid. Personally, a small vacation wouldn’t hurt my feelings but I digress because I’m glad to be working. It can always be worse.

THIS would be awesome! The level of assplosions would be epic.

Rand Paul floats Elon Musk for Speaker

by Ashleigh Fields 12/19/24 09:55 AM ET
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.)

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is seen during a Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pension Committee hearing to discuss Starbucks union busting on Wednesday, March 29, 2023.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) suggested Elon Musk serve as Speaker in a Thursday morning post on X following contentious debates over the continuing resolution (CR)“The Speaker of the House need not be a member of Congress . . . ,” Paul wrot
“Nothing would disrupt the swamp more than electing Elon Musk . . . think about it . . . nothing’s impossible. (not to mention the joy at seeing the collective establishment, aka ‘uniparty,’ lose their ever-lovin’ minds).”
Later Thursday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said she would be open to supporting Musk to replace Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) in a post quoting Paul.
“I’d be open to supporting @elonmusk for Speaker of the House. DOGE can only truly be accomplished by reigning in Congress to enact real government efficiency,” Greene wrote on X.

“The establishment needs to be shattered just like it was yesterday. This could be the way,” she added.
Musk is the co-leader of President-elect Trump’s “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE), an advisory panel focused on cutting spending and the size of the federal government.
He and fellow DOGE co-leader Vivek Ramaswamy helped drive a wave of opposition to a bipartisan spending deal Wednesday, ultimately ending in Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance urging Republicans to oppose the measure.
Since the Speaker of the House is 3rd in line to be POTUS, wouldn’t that eliminate Musk for eligibility?

I don’t think so. He would likely not be part of the presidential succession. Not sure who it would default to though. Minority leader? I don’t know how that works.

United Healthcare might be listening a bit more today.

My brother is considered “non essential” and gets furloughed often, only to get a check a few months after going back.

I don’t think it works that way. You can’t be VP if you don’t meet the POTUS requirements, why would the Speaker thing be any different? Just make Ramaswammy speaker, that would be a good test run for his VP position with Vance in 28.

Reading the interwebs, the only qualification is to be at least 25 years old. That’s it. Some have argued that the speaker must come from the house because of the legislative functions required, but it’s not written in the constitution. It doesn’t even mention a citizenship requirement. It would be interesting to watch it play out.

My position is what they call “emergency essential” which means worldwide deployment when called upon. We have to sign a mobility agreement as a condition of employment, which is probably why the compensation is decent.

There seems to be any number of Interweb Scholars who opinion that succession would just skip over non qualified people. I don’t see any actual court interpretations that would be used as precedent.

It would be worth it, just for entertainment reasons. I still like my idea of Rammaswammy as speaker, until he takes over as President of the Senate, before taking over as POTUS

Better than being non-essential. And who the F decides which businesses are essential and which ones are not? No matter what the company/business does, it's essential to the owners and employees. MF'ing communists. Burn in hell *******.

When we had the lock downs, strip clubs and dispensaries were open, because they were " essential.
