Game 1 Press Conference vs Browns

According to your logic, the leaders are the leaders and they automatically make the right choices. I guess we should eliminate democracy in America, since Joe Blow's educated, evidence-based opinions carry zero weight. I guess your boss should never be questioned, since you're just a lowly employee and couldn't possibly make an educated decision like he can.

Again, not even close to what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that as fans, you, me or anyone else can do all the second guessing that we want. It won't change a thing until the owners decide that a change needs to be made. It's fun to debate the pros and cons. And, believe it or not, I respect your opinion and position on the matter even if it slightly differs from mine. I enjoy reading what almost everyone on here has to say about the Steelers because you each bring a different "personal" perspective to the debate.

That said, what we think we know, or even what we are sure we know (supported by facts, articles, etc.) doesn't mean a damn thing. The ultimate decision is not ours. That doesn't mean we can't or shouldn't offer our opinions because we should. It's part of the "fan experience". Obviously it's part of the entertainment; if you will.

btw, I don't have a boss. I own the business. And while I value my customer's input on the service I am providing them and the professionalism and competency shown by my employees. There are very few of them that I'd be willing to let make personnel decisions for me.

Has anyone disputed that it's the team's call? Has anyone claimed that we could affect it? That was never the discussion, because we obviously have no say in anything. The discussion began when you told us that, when it comes to Tomlin, you felt that nobody but the Rooneys and other NFL teams was qualified to comment.

hope the season starts soon

Did I say that? If so, I stand corrected. Of course you have the right to feel that you are qualified to comment on any aspect of the team you desire.

Maybe not. Just the impression I got when you and Vader began to discuss fan opinions v. team opinions. No worries.

I was a fan from conception. I became a fanatic when I met jack lambert in 1977. I was 10 years old. he signed a white tshirt I was wearing
I guess that leaves slow learner to choose from.

I am a slow learner because I believe the owners of the steelers have better insight on who to coach their team than we do. ok.

Tim Lewis, Ray Sherman, Bruce Arians were all failed coordinators the Steelers owners stupidly hired.

that peace of **** Arians sucked.

you guys are right I am wrong. how can I make it up to you?

So, in other words, an NFL GM is inherently, automatically, inarguably smarter and/or a better football mind than anyone who's not?

Again, this could've been said about Blaine Gabbert and Ryan Leaf as well. It seems your contention is that the team is infallible when compared to us turds, and that if they saw something special in Jamain Stephens that a non-GM didn't see, they were STILL right for taking him in the first, and anyone who didn't like the guy was STILL wrong and/or out of place for noticing it.

Can't get on board with that.

Exactly. That type of thought process is idiotic. I don't seethe the fire and vitriol over Tomlin/front office that some fans might exhibit, but I certainly don't think theyve been doing all that good of a job, the last few seasons. And no, I dont need to be a scout/general manager/towel boy to make such valid observations

Was hoping not to see Brown on the field for PR, but this may force the teams to kick to Archer, who hasn't shown anything yet, to avoid punting it to the guy who went to the Pro Bowl doing it. Maybe some good potential for reverses on the PR?

Tomlin doesn't 'live in his fears' when it comes to that, he resides in his stupidity instead. It's a comfort thing you know.

Obfuscate all you want, I am comparing Tomlin to his peers, you want to make it Tomlin versus fans. Tomlin is a below the line coach.

I have never heard any of Tomlin's peers call him dumb- only some of the fans. So I'd like to see if they are really smarter than he is.

Yeah because NFL head coaches call other coaches in the league "dumb" all the time, happens every day

Ha. That's one of my Steeler Nation favorites - when they say something like, "Show me one example of the team saying Jarvis Jones sucks!!"

LOL. It's all they've got. Obx's post is the answer to "What does Tomlin do well?"

My answer to "what does Tomlin do well" actually is win. He does have the best W-L percentage of any Steeler coach in his first 7 years. If he matches it in the next 7 and makes another SB run he will pass Cowher as our second best ever. To do that he will have to complete a rebuild of which this is the third year and probably replace a franchise QB. We obviously don't know if he can but if he doesn't he will still be the third best. I'm rooting like hell for him because it will be great for "my" football team. I'm 78 and have followed them for 67 years. I may not know in your opinion what a good coach is but I sure have watched a hell of a lot of bad ones. Hope I'm still around when the final grade on Tomlin comes out.

Has there been any significant personnel upgrades from last season, or are we just hoping that everyone that sucked last year is suddenly good this year?

Blount over Redman, Tuitt over Hood (possibly an upgrade), Shazier over Williams, Mitchell over Clark, Pouncey over Velasquez/Wallace ... Depth at ILB, Depth at Safety, Depth (potentially) on the DL. Jury remains out on how much an upgrade many of these are, but at least they didn't stand pat this year.
