Game Balls, Game Goats & FU's............................vs Titans

The defense is layered. The quality of play by the interior lineman has effect on the linebackers. The play of the linebackers has effect on the safeties. As a tackler you get the guy to the ground period. So you can pick and chose a tackle (which was important I will grant that). But he is the leading tackler on the team. Not even his partner who is the strong safety and should theoretically get more opportunities. With the piss poor interior lineman and the even worse linebackers you better be damn happy Fitzpatrick tackles the way he does or more of the every other play 10-15 yard runs would be home runs.
If its the difference between a 17 yard gain and 15 yard gain it’s one thing (although those yard add up), but when a player has the opportunity to end the game, he’s got to make a hit.

Sure but Minkah, Watt and Heyward need oxygen from carrying this defense on their back. So you are really nit picking. And I've been a big critic of the Minkah trade because I thought he was being misused 15 -30 yards off the ball. He probably isn't all pro this year because he doesn't have the picks but I hink it's his best year as a Steeler.

After the game Tomlin said he didn't use timeouts because he was singularly focused on stopping Tennessee's drive and that he hoped the press of time wouldake it more difficult for them to score. You gotta be ****** kidding me. And then he takes the TO on 4th down so that they can run a kickoff out and possibly fumble or turn the ball over. He is just unbelievable.
I have no idea what he is doing or thinking. No matter how that series played out they should of had approx. 1:30 to work with.

Pickett will be gone before we pick now that our pick is falling further back in the round.

Our DL is as bad as our OL. There are some bright spots. Heyward is a stud but the rest are hit and miss because they are young and some just aren't starter material (many had been on our or someone elses practice squad). I just can't believe we can give up another 200 yards to a team without Henry and with no top WR to speak of. I don't know what our scheme was but we would have gotten dusted yesterday if it weren't for the turnovers. Turnovers are part of the game but getting run over week in and week out is not going to cut it no matter how you slice it. How many 200+ yard rushing games is that now? One is too many but we have given up a bunch. Alualu might be back next year after his injury. I, like many local pundits, still don't think Tuitt will be on the team next year. Even if he is, our DL needs completely revamped. Heyward has maybe 2 or 3 years left and that's a big maybe. We have no one else. We need a starter from free agency and one of our top 2 draft picks must be on the DL.

With most of these coaches it's like a chess master versus a kid who is learning Connect 4. I just don't know what he thinks half the time. I will go back and look but to my memory time was a zero factor for the Titans. They were simply bleeding clock and either scoring a major or settling for a FG. Then he commits to whatever BS strategy and then stops the clock with 20 some seconds left. Just in time for the possibility of Ray Ray fumbling or them jumping a route while trying to make a 56 yard field goal. And this **** happens time and time again.

Just a "kudos" moment for the offense though. With just 30 or 40 seconds they moved the ball downfield far enough to get into FG range, including a GREAT play with 5 seconds left to move the ball as close as they did and the receiver getting OOB.

If they'd had 1 or 2 more yards, Boz's kick would have been good. That was AMAZEBALLS how well they moved downfield in just a few seconds.

My fear is they will move Kahn who is a bean counter into Colbert's position and make Tomlin in charge of all football aspects. This franchise needs a fresh set of eyes so badly.

No kidding. When Colbert leaves it seems Kahn is inevitable but I have no idea what his football chops are. He seems like a good negotiator. Though I don't agree with what the Steelers have been doing contracts lately he is only following what is asked. But assuming he isn't an NFL talent evaluator someone else would have to do that.
Most if not all the beat writers, Gulac, Pruista, Lolley, etc have opined, Brandon Hunt is Kevin’s successor. Omar has his VP title like Colbert does already. Hunt has been Colbert’s understudy for some time now.

I think it was even more amazing because I want to say they barely had 20 seconds on the clock unless they added time back on. When the **** had the ball, I remember there being 25 seconds on the clock. The kickoff should have taken some time off unless it was a touchback (I missed the kickoff so don't know on that one). Either way, it just shows again that they can move the ball down the field. Why they wait until situations like that to do it is just dumbfounding.

Had it been Fitzpatrick, instead of Haden, making the final tackle, I’m thinking the Titans get the first down easily.

That's the problem.

Nantz and Romo were ******* terrible. Mike Tomlin's clock management was worse. Our OL AND DL are absolute **** (besides Heyward).

At this point, I sincerely hope that Tomlin and Canada get together with Ben and say "**** it! We're going out guns blazing!" I hope they make MUCH more use of the no/muddle huddle and that they let Ben make some ******* audibles based on what he sees.

Watching the offense intermittently move up and down the field with ease drives me (and I'm sure everyone else) ******* insane.

Yep, he is the logical successor with so much experience in the scouting department.

Correct. Tomlin could have called a timeout with 1:55 left after the first-and-goal at the 4. Incomplete pass took 4 seconds. 2nd down catch took 4 seconds. Sack should have taken 6 seconds max, he was down with 26 seconds left. Field goal took 3 seconds. Kickoff return took 6 seconds. Steelers could have had the ball on the 22 with 1:32 on the clock, AND a timeout to work with.

You don't have to go back and look. Tennessee had a first-and-goal at the 4 yard line with almost two minutes left, and all three of their timeouts remaining. The Titans had exactly ZERO concern with the clock, other than watching the Steelers stupidly allow it to tick away. Not only that, but when Tomlin finally did decide to call for time on 4th down, he inexplicably waited five seconds after the sack to do so. Five seconds that might have come in handy to get a few yards closer for Boswell that could have (at least partially) overcome his otherwise imbecilic handling of the clock.

The offense actually only had 12 seconds left after the kickoff return. If Tomlin manages the clock properly, as I mentioned above, they have over a minute-and-a-half and a timeout to work with. It's confounding that he's still this bad after this many years.

That is just a bunch of bullshit. First of all, you're about to be behind by two scores (10 points if they hold the Titans to a field goal, 14 if they don't). Secondly, Tennessee is set to receive the second half kickoff. There is simply no excuse for not using your timeouts there to give your offense as much time as possible to score before halftime...especially if he was still going to try and move the ball into field goal range from his own 22 with 12 seconds left on the board. Ridiculous.

I have to give props to Terrell Edmunds today. It’s the first time I’ve actually thought he looked like a starter out there…
Ya man he kicked *** had really good game they ask a lot from him he’s playing his position and bushes… they are just gashing the off inside linebacker just gashing it… the dline is letting guards to get out on the linebackers but with bush he is so out of position the guards can’t find him to block him… lol.. hes lost in this defense reminds me of sharknato Thomas the safety few years back another draft pick flop.

Especially difficult carrying 200 lbs of coach on your back.

How was Tomlin singularly focused on stopping Tennessee. He's not calling the defense right? His whole job should be clock management at that point.
