Well well we are 4-0 for the first time since in 41 years......1979. We all know what happened in 1979.....but lets not get ahead of ourselves. We have a promising season going right now but there's still work to be done to be able to win it all. The arrow is definitely pointing up. I was a bit nervous about this week coming off a layoff playing a desperate Eagles team that has been decimated by injuries. Today we saw the Steelers going up against one of the better defenses in the NFL and we watched Ben Roethlisberger & the Offense put up 38 points and Ben played his best game in a long time as he was able to pick apart a very tough Eagles Defense. Chase Claypool had a MONSTER GAME........WELCOME TO THE NFL ROOKIE! Steelers Defense really struggled today on 3rd down at one point the Eagles were 9 for 11 on 3rd down conversions. Mike Hilton had a rough game back there in coverage vs Fulgham who caught almost everything thrown at him.....Hilton was a mis-match. I think on the last few drives it seemed like Butler finally put Joe Haden on him and shut him down. Hard to single out any bad efforts out there by our Defense I just think Philly was ready for this game and came to play. Carson Wentz looked comfortable back there for much of the game and did great with the receiving corps he had. After Decastro went down I thought Kevin Dotson (despite 2 costly penalties) came in and did a great job on Fletcher Cox, he basically shut him down. The entire O-line did a pretty good job with Ben only getting sacked once early. If Decastro is out for an extended period of time I'm perfectly ok with Kevin Dotson replacing him. At this point I think it's going to be hard to keep Dotson out of the starting rotation much longer....he is really good. Up next The Clowns come to the Burgh....I hope Big Al will be up to the challenge protecting Ben's blind side from that ******* THUG Myles Garrett!

Injuries per Tomlin's post game:
Decastro - Abdominal strain.....being evaluated
Dionte Johnson - Back injury was hit from behind....should be able to play next week
Maurkice Pouncey - Wasn't able to return from injury at the end of the game. He's being evaluated

Game Balls:
Chase Claypool - Welcome to the NFL....7 rec 110 yds 3 TD's 3 carries 6 yds TD - 4 TD performance....would have been 5 TD"s if he wasn't called for a Phantom OPI
Ben Roethlisberger - I don't know if Ben would admit it but I sure felt it. This was his best game so far this season....he looked comfortable back there. the final TD throw to Claypool Ben had to be drooling seeing a LB'er on Claypool
Steelers O-line - Our 2 best OL went down today in Decastro & Pouncey but the O-line stepped up and Ben was only sacked once by an aggressive Eagles Defense
Stephon Tuitt - Stats won't show it but he gave Eagles all they could handle today with 2 sacks, TFL and a batted ball. Good performance Tuitt

Game Goats:
Officiating today was absolutely terrible and effected the out come of the game.....the OPI on Chase Claypool in the 4th QTR was ridiculous....I don't even think Claypool touched him...he just fell down. That would have been another TD
Randy Fitchner - Some of the play calling today was Questionable at best....2nd & 22 4th QTR and you run it? Cmon man your not going to fool anyone with that play call.

Game Balls
Chase Claypool
Ben Roethlisberger
Kevin Dotson (love when a player has to come in unexpectedly and plays well)

Game Goats
Minkah where are you? (not near a receiver)
the rest of the secondary

FUs
The officiating, the PIs in this game were ridiculous as was the roughing the passer on Wentz when he gets hit basically as he's releasing the ball
The NFL because the officiating is an all to common problem during a game

I think Ben called a hot route on the line for Claypool, I'd bet I saw it just before the snap

I can understand Claypool going off because of other WR and matchup problems. However, Fulgham who was nearly their only threat couldn't be bracketed and taken out of the game plan? Claypool has Washington, JuJu, Ebron and Mac. Philly had Ertz. Jesus figure it out.

No lies told. There wasn't another Eagles receiver that was a threat today but they couldn't figure out to cover Fulgham over/under and eliminate him. The secondary needs to get the collective heads out of their ***** or next week's game will be a long day.

I thought the offensive play calling was great today, short of a couple boneheaded calls.
That 2nd and 22 run was just plain dumb imo.

Game ball:
Matt Canada - That offensive game plan had Canada's fingerprints all over it. The motion, the end arounds to the receivers, the bunch formation on Claypool's TD. Great offseason hire and we are seeing more of what he brings to the table each week.

I was thinking the same exact thing.

Good stuff as usual. I would give Watt a game ball too. Ray-Ray? Almost.

Fulgham's catch radius is insane. We played more man in the second half and he took advantage of it. Period the end.

Great game to day even though the refs made me break my phone...

The Browns are no joke - gonna be a slobber knocker next week.

Definite FU to Minkah for being non-existent this year after getting our hopes up about having an elite safety again...

Where was Minkah? Doing what he was assigned to do. Shut down their biggest receiving threat. Remember how our team has a tough time stopping athletic TEs?

Zach Ertz 1 catch 6yds. (on 6 targets)

Going into this game, he was the target for our D to shut down. We did that, Fitz and Bush did that. He did nothing today. Kudos to the unknown WR making plays. We didn't scheme to stop him, and he made excellent combative catches. Hilton was on him, but he's too big for Hilton to stop well thrown balls to a taller WR.

Just because you don't see a splash play from Fitz, doesn't mean he's not being productive.

Thanks Chico.

Steelers were cruising, up 31-14, and then they reeled of 15 points......uh-oh.

So I cracked a cold one.....then it got easy.

Game ball to me, second game in a row!

Where is the Ray Ray love???? Guy is everything and more that Switzer was meant to be. Great pick up.

I totally agree but also point out that Switzarmyknife isn't a very high standard to compare too.

EDIT: Take nothing away from Ray Ray

PS. Very good assesment Chicoman, great post and I love this series of yours'

I'd have to say the OL was very well tested today and with injury on top of that they still managed quite well. That front 4 of Philly is a VERY dominant front four and yes, our guys had their hands full but seemed to handle them for the most part.

Great point DIC!

If you were going to ask me before the game that the Steelers would only give up 1 sack to that team, I'd gladly take it. After the first QTR, I thought we'd be giving up 7! Good news is Ben didn't get tackled the rest of the game!

I think fans are giving the OL a little too much credit.

Ben is getting the bell out quickly with accuracy. Very impressive. That helps with the pass blocking which was good yesterday.

The run blocking however was not. When DeCastro went out the holes became less and the ability to push players backward diminished.

Conner needs good run blocking as he’s too slow to run outside.

Pass blocking A-
Run blocking C

On the new players Chucks sticks to his man. He doesn’t dominate him but so far I like his consistency . A finesse player but in a good way.

Dotson had 2 flags ( I think ). He gets some push but looks like nothing special which is okay for now. Just watch those flags.

This is a passing league if you can get a A grade you are doing your job. Dots run blocking will get better and better after all that was his strength in college. Chucks is athletic I actually prefer him over Banner,

But yeah Ben is one of the best at getting the ball out we can thank Haley for that.

To much credit,.............WTF

They gave up ONE sack vs a VERY dominant front four & defense and had two player out due to injury......... "Give to much credit" a ******* laugher.

Did you watch the actual game??? Did you zoom in on the LOS ? (Rhetorical questions)

As a fan I stand by my assessment and also enjoy the victory, NEXT UP !!!!
