Well obviously he is the classic think 1 move ahead chess player, nobody is accusing Tomlin of thinking out several moves in advance…one of the many reasons why he struggles come playoff time. The easiest chess player to beat is a guy that looks 1 move ahead and doesn’t see the bigger picture. Is it any wonder when he had all that offensive talent it would frequently be on the sidelines come playoff time with the killer Bs. He will be worried about winning absolutely meaningless games and ride into the playoffs banged up and battered. It’s what he does. Warriors and I were simply stating an alternative strategy…one that doesn’t roll into the playoffs with a beat up, broken team that the NFL tried to lay on the Steelers with that jackass schedule at the end of the year to make a few more bucks for Rog.
I don’t think Tomlin has the strategic foresight to implement this strategy, but it sure would be nice to see some changes in his status quo and looking past the next move and seeing the bigger picture. There is literally 1 game, maybe 2 depending on how things shake out that matter in the rest of the regular season.
But he’ll go full bore running guys til the wheels fall off trying his best to win meaningless games and hit the playoffs with his tired, depleted team…it’s what he does. I’d be shocked if anything different happened. The only thing he knows about load management is using it as an excuse when he had to bench a player.
