Can't remember where, but I read after the game that Gilbert was healthy enough to play yesterday, but they went with Adams anyway. Why? I'm among the biggest Buckeye homers ever, but even I will admit that Mike Adams has proven to be a P.O.S. And it's a head scratcher to me why Adams would have started yesterday over a healthy Gilbert.

It was surprising and will be interesting to see what Tomlin has to say about it at his presser tomorrow. I'm thinking that Tomlin is really forcing guys who are coming off of injury to earn their spot back in practice (could also explain why Shazier has been relegated to only playing on special teams). Even though Gilbert managed to get through the practices last week, maybe he was still looking a bit tentative?

I just hope everyone who was on the "Adams is better than Gilbert" bandwagon has now seen enough of Adams to realize that Gilbert is much better.

I'm not a fan of either, but with game experience should come better play. If Coach Tomlin is truely making starters earn their positions back, what better scinerio can we ask for? If that is the case, then however badly Adams played, was probably better than what Gilbert could have played. A little confidence can go a long way. William Gay is an example, hard work and dicipline, can get you "above the line". Lets hope Adams is improving, both on himself and with the "MUNCH" coaching.

Maybe Coach thought Adams was doing an adequate (albeit ******) job and gave Gilbert one more week for the KC game.
It's a thought.

I think you are right

I was just listening to the Terrible Podcast and they mentioned a Steelers beat reporter (believe it was Dulac) thought Gilbert was still pretty gimpy in practice last week.

I don't think Gilbert even dressed, I'm pretty sure I saw him in street clothes on the sideline

He was inactive. The surprise was that he was listed as probable after practicing in full all week.

hmmm... they listed him as probable Friday and he practiced all week. Have to go back and check the inactive list.

The Steelers handed out two bad extensions this year in Cortez Allen and Gilbert. Both of their respective units seem to function better in their absence.

Disagree completely re Gilbert. Adams has been below the line for 3 straight games...if the OL has played well, then it's been in spite of Adams not because of him.

Well he plays tackle and Ben has pretty much been clean for the last three weeks. Maybe he isn't blowing his man off the ball on run plays, but he isn't exactly getting Ben killed.

If you are really interested, go find one of those websites like Steelers Depot that puts together detailed evaluations with video clips. You will see that Adams is below the line. He hasn't been a dumpster fire, but I think he's been below average. Keep in mind we've just played the Bengals and the Falcons...two teams that have barely sacked the opposing QB all season.

Gilbert didn't dress. On a punt or kickoff (can't recall which), our little tiny punter/kicker was running to the sideline and grabbed onto some huge monster of a man to keep from running into the bench. we thought he was McCullers at first, but McCullers was suited up.

It's because as bad as Adams is, Gilbert is worse. Gilbert flat out stinks, and that extension they gave him was incredibly stupid.

Gilbert has settled down nicely since Dumerville embarrassed him. The Steelers kept him out because he was a still a little dinged up and we were playing on turf. The staff felt one more week and not playing on turf was the best way to go. Same for Harrison

Even though he practiced all three days this past week, Pittsburgh Steelers tackle Marcus Gilbert will miss his third-straight game Sunday with an ankle injury.

According to a Sunday morning radio report by Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Gilbert is still laboring with his injured ankle.

Another thing to keep in mind, according to Dulac, is that the Steelers will play the Atlanta Falcons Sunday in the Georgia Dome and that FieldTurf playing surface is not very friendly to players with feet and ankle injuries.

With Gilbert down again, Mike Adams will make his third-straight start at right tackle. In addition, guard Chris Hubbard will get a helmet once again as a seventh offensive lineman.

Mt made a comment about keeping the healthiest people in the line up. So just maybe getting through practice was not enough. It might also mean they thought they could rest those guys that were not back and still get the win which they did. As to Gilbert and Adams they have both looked bad and needed help and so has Beachum. Although at least with Beachum one can say he is playing better than he was expected to unlike Gilbert or Adams.

Beachum has graded out as one of the best OTs according to PFF. Take that however you want.

Point with Beachum is he was a seventh round pick and to end up with a starter at left tackle from that selection is a huge steal. Granted he may not be going in as an all pro but to get a solid player from the seventh round is a huge plus. He does not have to be our best from PFF for the preceding to be true. Tunch has a different choice for the best linemen but the worst Beachum would be is a solid starter.

Kovacevic says Gilbert was a healthy scratch:

Marcus Gilbert was a healthy scratch. No need to mince words there. Mike Tomlin hemmed and hawed over why Gilbert, after a full week of practice, wasn’t even activated Sunday, but there’s no way to interpret that as anything other than a benching.

Whatever it was, point made. Move on.

I guess we'll find out this week. Kinda weird if it is a benching

Not sure that I've seen enough from Adams to bench Gilbert. If it is a benching, what does that say about the team's two big re-signings this offseason? Both benched. Add in the midseason release of Blount and the overall terrible play of Mitchell and Thomas.

I'd say its the beginning of righting the ship. Nothing more, nothing less. If he is realizing they haven't panned out or aren't playing as good as the next up, then thank the lord. MT is doing something and currently we are winning.

All you can really say about Adams was is he didn't suk as bad as he normally does... Too bad he is so Fuking lazy because he's in a great situation, great team, great position coach... Too bad. Line looks like it's coming together for a run, kc will be a great test, could decide our season... It's up to the offensive line to get things done block for Ben and create running lanes for bell... Go stillers!!!

It seems like Adams has played in the most productive offensive games. Didn't he start in the 2, 6 TD games?
