With many changes on the horizon for the Pittsburgh Steelers it seems another domino will fall.

Reports this morning indicate that GM Kevin Colbert will retire following the 2022 draft. Colbert who has been working on year to year contracts has been kicking around retirement for awhile now.

#Steelers GM Kevin Colbert, one of the NFL’s most respected figures, is expected to step down following the 2022 NFL Draft, sources say.

The Steelers have two potential replacements in house with Brandon Hunt, and Omar Khan.

One of the best GMs in league history, but it's definitely time to move on.

It would be nice to see them at least consider some people outside the organization to replace him, but it seems like they're keeping it in house.

We all saw this coming. I hope they have an interm in place or someone hired before the draft so they can have input on who they want for the team. Colbert had some great picks and made some amazing moves and also some duds too. Best wishes on his retirement

Doesn't the fact that he will retire AFTER the draft signal an in-house move?

That might be a mistake to hire within. At least without doing research on who might be better options. I am not even sure I like him handling this draft process/ free agency. If one foot is out the door let the other one follow it. I am appreciative of all he is done. But time for a reboot.

Cool. Enjoy retirement. You deserve it

I would look at Ed Dobbs who I prefer for the job or John Spytek. Both have more attractive resumes. Nothing I have read screams Hunt is the man for the job.

Which GM is trendy and in with the times?

Colbert was a terrific GM who helped bring in some of the team’s all-time greats. You also have to appreciate how he was able to work with the coaching staff and rest of the front office to assemble the rosters. We knew he’d retire when Roethlisberger did, so no surprise here. I appreciate the work he did and hope the new GM will bring some new ideas to the table while still maintain a high level of success.

With us knowing the team will transition to a new GM, I do wonder why they don’t make the move immediately. I know he’s sign on through the draft, but once you’re checked out, will the same commitment be put forth through the draft process?

Maybe the Steelers do have their guy, just news is under wraps

Dobbs has ties with that once talented Seattle team and is helping the Colts have a pretty solid roster. That is enough here and now for me.😉

New rumor out that nothing is set in stone in regards to Colbert retiring.

That's how I see it.

It would not make much sense to keep Colbert through the draft otherwise.

I cannot imagine a potential GM candidate from the outside agreeing to that arrangement.

I read that report from Dulac. It doesn’t say he’s not retiring, just that he hasn’t officially made that decision yet with the team. Of interest in the article is the team source thought it would be a surprise if he directed the entire offseason then left. That definitely makes more sense.

Yeah, if Colbert is indeed retiring, then he should leave at the end of the season and have nothing to do with the draft. Sorry, but makes no sense for him to run the draft. It's like some guy ordering your dinner and then leaving. You get what THAT GUY wanted, not what you want.

My fear is the new GM will be strapped with NOT his picks. I truly want them to find outside organization help. The longer we promote from with-in the more Tomlinized we become.

Salute the nation

As long as the Steelers keep me entertained on Sundays and honestly. I want to write to request better hat designs. The nfl is screwing up with hat designs. That’s enough for me….for now

The picture of the jaw gave me a chuckle, but he's not going to take the pay cut.
It would be interesting though.

I'm glad he is retiring. It's time for him to go. I hope we have a smooth transition to the next guy, but maybe the next guy would want to replace Tomlin.
