He was likely irritated that we drafted Pickett in Round 1, yet he's being professional about it and not being like Maddox was - or like Tannehill is.

He very well could have bitched up a fit, demanded a trade, etc. Yet he's saying (per various reports) he was told that we likely may draft a QB in Round 1 before he signed his contract. Whether that is 100% true or not, we don't know and likely won't ever know. Yet what we do know is he's not sulking and being a ***** saying its not his job to mentor the new guy. Even if he's a "new guy" himself to the organization.

I'd give Mason props for not crying, as we've not heard a peep from him. But that's likely because no one gives a **** what he thinks. Hopefully he gets traded for a decent pick instead of throwing them next season.

Maddox??? What about Big Ben?
Lest we forget when Rudolph was drafted.

Ben even cried to Fitchner and Tomlin.

If Mason doesn’t make the squad based on his own merit why the hell would a team trade anything for a cut bait, slappy QB?

Just wait til he’s cut and then he comes cheaper taboot without giving away draft capital…it would take a really really stupid team.

Then BEN turned a 180 and helped Mason to his full degree and stated he like him in his ability and as a tammate. Initially BEN was pissed but once they got going in OTAs and Training Camp BEN changed big time.

I’ve read the FO was upfront about the possibility of drafting a QB in the first. So if that’s so he wasn’t taken off guard by the pick. If it’s an open competition and he has a fair shot then that’s all he can ask for. Being a ***** about it isn’t going to help you gain the team’s confidence in you.

Here’s to the best man wins.

PS

Also Kudos' to Mitch

Ben wasn't bitching about Rudolph, though. He like many fans, thought a third round pick could have been used elsewhere on the team to help them win right then.

I've got to say...
Initially I was lukewarm on the Trubisky signing, but after about a weekend I came around to it. IN THEORY...
Mitch would be a great fit for the offense Canada wants to run.

Drafting Pickett was a headscratcher for me, but here we are as Steeler fans.

There is nothing that would make me happier than to have Mitch beat out Pickett.

C'mon man, LOL.
He was bitching about a QB being drafted is the point being made.

Thinking nobody is going to give anything for Rudy. Probably a 6th or 7th if they somehow could pull it off. All the QBs knew there would be competiton. Colbert himself in an interview stated they wanted 4QBs in camp. I could have done without forcing that 4th QB in the draft but most of those 7ths don't work out anyways.

Rudolph will have value if a team is in need of a backup quarterback. I don't think he's a true NFL starter, but he is a solid backup.

Completely agree on QB4 in the draft. Most are throwaways, but I would still like to see them build depth on the OL/DL/EDGE/DB with these types of picks.

Exact quote from Ben, but you're right...

"I was surprised they took a QB because I thought maybe in the 3rd round you can get some really good players that can help this team win now. Nothing against Mason I think he is a great player. I don't know him personally but I'm sure he is a great kid. I just don’t know how backing up or being the third, who knows where he’s going to fall in the depth chart but helps us win now but that’s not my decision to make that’s all the coaches and the GM and owner...if they feel like he can help our team, so be it but I was a little surprised.” - Ben Roethlisberger

Given how the Steelers approach just about every season, Ben's take was correct.

I love that quote from Ben, a very accurate assessment and…
A cosmic ***** slap to the new kid telling him you ain’t even sniffing the starting role til I say so

It ain’t bragging if ya can back it up

LoL..a lot of ifs, ands, and buts goin on here.

Ben got butthurt over a QB being drafted, whatever he said or did afterwards is inconsequential.

After being pulled over for speeding, I did a 180 and proceeded to obey the speed limit. ...but that doesn't change the fact that I was still guilty of speeding.

So Ben made an intial comment (supposedly but insaniti showed that comment) but regardless doesn't get any credit for helping mason and doing the right things along the way once initial shock wore off................

I don't completely weight things out before I speak sometimes and have to reiterate differently later, **** that's part of comunication.

Either way, did BEN rip apart the team, cause someone to quit their job, get a stern talking to by boss............... not that we know of so I think some here are blowing BEN's perception a little overboard. Who gives a fuckss today ???

I'm sure Mason would nothing but support BEN in any conversation.

But the clear difference is that Ben's job as the starting quarterback was never one iota in jeopardy when they drafted Rudolph. The same cannot be said about Trubisky's outlook when they drafted Pickett in the first round.

Like everyone breaks the speed limit daily. Even those who enforce it...lol

The problem was that Ben had been talking about retirement for a couple of offseasons already when they drafted Rudolph. Ben actually kind of forced their hand to look for a future replacement, not expecting Ben to hang on for 3 more years

Ben talked about retirement to get rid of his OC, or to get better receivers or OL.

Perhaps but when you do it you open the door for your team to say oh sh!t we might want to address the position.

I saw a patrol car recently turn on their lights and start to book it & we were on a long stretch of highway so I watched them for about a half a mile. Then they came up to a light (they were a good few hundred yards in front of me at that point), they made a quick left turn and then turned them off. ********. I was jealous no doubt.
