Haley extended through 2016

That matches the same season through which Tomlin's contract runs, right?

Well deserved....the man took a crap load of heat from me and many others but the numbers don't lie....the Steelers had one of the most prolific offenses in the league and it should only get better.

Yes. Sounds like Tomlin isn't getting an extension, which I support.

If the wheels fall off next year or their's a step back with the more difficult schedule, ownership can make a change while only eating 1-year left on the staff's contracts.

I don't have the time to look it up, but I bet if you add Ben's yards with Bell's yards and Browns yards, those three may have the most combined
yards from a QB, RB, WR in history.

The numbers can lie, if they're not viewed in the proper context.

The cumulative numbers are skewed because they had three or four games where they got confused and thought they were the 1999 Rams, but were overall as inconsistent in scoring as they've been in prior years.

As I've previously alluded to, the Steelers offense scored 20 points or less in their last four games, including the playoff loss.

I'm not thrilled about the extension, but whatever.

I hope you're right, but I think this season gave Tomlin eternal job security because he showed he can "turn it around."

I would've been good either way, because I still think Tomlin has his fingers in the offensive plays too much.

Thats not for lack of efficient playcalling...thats more on Ben.....RedZone/DeadZone Ben........his struggles are well documented, under Haley, Arians and Whisenhunt as OCs.

Lawrence Timmons, Steve McLendon, Chris Kemoeatu, Cortez Allen, Marcus Gilbert, Todd Haley

What's the commonality?

I'm in the "Roethlisberger is good, not great camp", but I've pointed out before how the Steelers best season in terms of redzone efficiency in the Roethlisberger era was 2005 under Cowher/Whisenhunt, where they ranked 4th in the league. Their second best was in 2007, Tomlin's first year where they still ran Cowher's offense with Dan Krieder and Alan Faneca leading the counter plays. They stopped using a fullback regularly the next year.

The Steelers and Roethlisberger are typically at their best with a consistently strong running game. It's not his fault they've failed to provide him with one through Tomlin's tenure.

For as good as Bell was overall, the running game was totally stuffed too often this season

James Saxon deserves a lot of props for the work he's done with Bell. He hasn't gotten as much love as Munchak has gotten. The guy had helped a good running back with potential turn into a great back.

Skewed because they had a hot steak? You've got to be kidding

It's also well documeted he has a .671 winning percentage and the Steelers haven't had a losing season since he's been the starter (regardless of the coach). I've noticed you seem to put most (if not all) of the offensive failures on Ben's shoulders. What realistic canidates would you rather the Steelers have under center? He may not be the best QB, but he's a helluva lot better than most of the others and there are only 2 other QBs in the league with a higher winning percentage (based on a minimum of 5 seasons played).

obviously his coaching was above the line

he carries a certain pedigree

but moving forward

we own that the O can get better

obviously

It's a good move, though it's fair to point out that as a healthy Bell arrived, Haley's offense really started to click. It desperately needs work in the redzone. I'm hopeful that the improvement of Wheaton and Bryant can help in that regard.

On the statistical side it is warranted. On the winning side well- 2 8-8 seasons and an early exit from the playoffs at home. Now the Defense was clearly a big part of that. However, I haven't seen this team be able to really score when it matters the most either. Not surprised he is staying.

I am very torn on this one. I know the O put up some numbers this year but there was so much inconsistency and just plain stupid play calling. I still think they won in spite of him. After this season, something definitely needs to be done on defense so let's hope something does happen on that side of the ball. And, Tomlin needs to have more discipline on the team and push them harder in practice.

Hes a $100M+ QB..a franchise HOF quarterback right ? .....why is it we can rack up 1st downs and yardage in chunks between the 20s but seem to have a problem executing touchdown scoring plays in the redzone ? We ranked 19th in the league in RZ TD efficiency. One of the most proficient yardage generating offenses in the league...top 5 but in the lower half of RZ TD efficiency...

How often has he taken sacks in the red zone (holding the ball)...incompletions in the red zone ?.....hows his completion rate in the RZ compare to his non-RZ completion pctg ? Dont take my critique as suggesting hes a horrible QB..hes not..but hes not in the same conversation as the elite when it comes to RZ TD efficiency.....we all know its a struggle with this team and it starts w the QB......6 is better than 3 and now days we need the 6's a lot more than we need the 3's. In 2005-2009 we could FG our way to close victories.....our defense wont afford us that luxury anymore.

I still have some issues with the play calling at times, that led is us losing to the likes of Jets and Bucs and almost to the Jags. But, over all, one can't really argue with their over all production, although red zone needs to be much better at scoring TDs.

it's a good deal for Haley and Ben. He'll have his OC for the next two years, when he signs his new deal. No surprises for them and I'd expect Tomlin to get his extension this off-season, as well.

I love how any play that doesnt work is a stupid play call.
