Heath Miller to retire

Saves us $4 million on our salary cap.

Better use the money wisely.

I'd use that money and of course some more to grab a lockdown corner in FA and draft a TE on the first or second round, that would be priority #1 next to S and then OL, DL

With players being more aware of the danger of concussions, I think you will see more guys in his position walk away while they're relatively healthy. He has two rings, and has been a Pro-Bowler. Walk away wealthy, and more importantly, healthy.

4 million in cap room is enough to get something done with Foster or Gay. Doubtful their year 1 hits will be greater than that.

I did want to see him play QB once. Was like a Chekov's QB situation every time one of our QBs git hurt mid game.

he is going to be Missed. iMO if Heath Miller is drafted by Indianapolis, or New England, or Dallas, or Denver or anywhere they use the Te as a weapon first and a blocker second, he is being touted as a HOFr right now. The Steelers chronically underused him as a pass catcher because they needed blocking help so much during the Arians era, then had such a great stable of WRs lately. He is the best all around TE in the league.

I also want to point out that 33 is ancient for a pro athlete. people all act like guys should play till they are 40... playing past 32 is already actually extremely rare and frankly you probably wont be seeing many guys do that anymore anyhow. Skill declines happen sharply at 34 or 35, but can start as early as 29. Besides natural recovery slowing a guy down, Repeated head hits can cause slower reflexes, which is why RBs are done by 30 more often than not. The steelers have a problem with holding onto stars way too long and While heath had stuff left in the tank, I am sort of happy he is walking away just outside of his prime so we don't have to see him fade on the field like Troy or so many other greats

Heath is one of the greatest all around TE's in the game. I'd say top 5 but he will never be recognized because TE's are only looked at for catching passes these days. Heath did it all and did it all at the highest level.

One of my favorites as well. I was shocked too cause I thought too he was going to play another year or two. Steelers are going to be hard pressed in trying to find another TE of his magnitude!! Steelers and the rest of us are going to miss him. #83.........

HHEEEAAAAAATTTTTTTHHHHH!!!!!!!

If we could get Hooper in the 2nd or 3rd, go for it. If he's there in the 3rd, it's a no brainer. Stanford kid with size - that equates to being smart and tough.

1. BPA CB, S, OLB
2. BPA of remaining 3.
3. TE Hooper
4. BPA out of remaining CB. S, OLB

I would be ok with Hooper in the second, and wouldn't be surprised to see it happen now with Heath off the roster. Unless they bring a TE n free agency.......

Just wasn't ready for Heath to retire.

Heavy hearted tonight..............

Big +1 to this. If you start looking at draft classes from 7-10 years ago the amount of active guys is really low.

3 hours after hearing the news and this still sucks. I'm bummed. :blue:

Hate to see him go. But understand completely; he was always getting clobbered.

I'll have to add him to my Steeler Wall of Fame.

This is a sad day. We all knew it was coming sooner or later, but its still hard. Wish Heath nothing but the best life has to offer; he's been a great player.

Some of the things that I think really exemplified Miller as a player:
1. He never went backwards, always had that last final lunge forward.
2. Quiet confidence. Not a talker just let his play speak for itself. Good quiet leadership is very underestimated.
3. Though he has great hands in a time when other pass catching TE's got a lot of press, he always took pride in his blocking.
4. The QB always voted him for MVP. Says a lot.
Thanks for the memories Heath. My oldest son chose you for his first real jersey and I've always thought that revealed something about his character. Best wishes on a smooth transition into retirement.

photo I just purchased...........

Saw my first game in Seattle last year. Miller caught a pass and all your hear is Heathhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Went to the game with 3 Hawks fans the look on their faces was priceless. I was like yeah baby you're in Steelers country. Gonna miss the big guy, a Steeler Great!

Well, this ******* sucks.

Good receiver, GREAT blocker. Probably the best all-around tight end over the past decade, though he'll never get recognition for it.

The first quarter of the 2006 playoff game against the Colts, and the the first half of the Super Bowl against the Cardinals. Enough said.

I ditto exactly what you said.

This is not a good day. Heath in my mind is one of my all time top ten steelers. I've been a fan since 76 and NEVER admired a player more even though he is not my all time favorite player. I've met him twice and he's first class all the way. I wish him luck in retirement and he will always be missed by me and thousands of other steelers fans.

While he may have lost a step or two, he was always good for a first down if only Ben would have looked his way more.

Thanks for the great 11 years. A consummate professional. Wish you and your family the best.

HEEAAATH!!!!!!!
