So we're over half way through the season. Is this all there is? The line has had plenty of time to gel. We got what we got apparently. I think I been feeling like I have been waiting for it to get better. Like, maybe they have packages to add. Like maybe it would take time to install the entire genius that is Matt Canada. I think I'm realizing that this is what we are getting, and I need to accept it. . The defense is what it is, and that's ok. But I expected the offense to grow and get better. Instead I think I'm waiting for Ben to break down completely, and najee to come up lame or worn out from RB abuse.

Worst OC we've had since Kevin Gilbride. Still not as bad as Ray Sherman.

We haven't had an opening drive TD in 3 years. We have 3 this year with his scripted plays.

We had Green Pouncying snaps all game, and 2 TOs in OT.

Fire the OC...

The only problem I had with the play calling was 3 passes on 1st and goal from the 5. Other than that, we still should have won this game if DJ and Pat can hang on to the damn football...

Meh. I am tired of the on 3rd and what ever you throw the ball 90%(give or take a few % points each way) of the time to the LOS or a yard past the LOS and expect your player the get the yards himself......how about throw the ball one yard past the sticks? Also the WR reverse I wouldn't be against not seeing it again. Another area that I would like to take about is the MIDDLE OF THE FIELD. An area we DO NOT USE. Nope. I have seen enough of Mr. Canada's office.

Some of the things looked better with Mason at QB with the Canada offense. The fact that Mason can roll out better and quicker than Ben adds a little dimension. The WR jet sweeps/fakes weren’t as convincing last week vs the Lions. I don’t mind them. The problem this past week is the timing of the WR going in motion to fake the sweep. The ball needs to be snapped as the WR come up on the guard. The ball was being snapped a tad early or late to set it up. Claypool, Juju and Dionte do a pretty good job at setting this up- of course Mason needs to be aware of the position of the motion man and I think he had the ball snapped quicker than he was supposed to.

Cope, not referring strictly to this last game. In general, i thought i would see more throws down field, over the middle,, to Najee (anywhere). This looks like last year with pre-snap motions thrown in. We dont even have a screen pass. (no im not talking about bubble screens. ) You would think we could run more screens. given our o line . But also maybe you need to be able to pass deeper to pull these off.

we Tied the worse team in football! We got 16 points! Rudy is a veteran qb there are no excusses. We are One f the worse offenses in football! Your putting it all on the players? How about the call when muth fumbled… we chanced that fumble to gain one firkin yard!?!? In overtime! Horrible call! Canada is a journeyman for a reason! Our front office is so delusional they think they really got something in Canada… this same bunch that thought they were sooo lucky to have drafted Jarvis Jones! our fans can’t be as delusional or will never clean this mess up! Come on man get in the game! lOl

The extra motion has not tricked any defense. Is that all that Canada brought to the team? I don't see anything else worth noting. He was hyped as a genius. He isn't.

Honestly I think few called him that. Many argued that he never spent more than two years in any program as a red flag

Gilbride was a genius everywhere but here … basically Steelers fans are impatient with ocs and always have been

The first season of an oc is almost always extremely similar to the last season of tge old oc while they transition

Case in point,
- Fitchners first season was virtually an extention pf tge haley offense before he installed the dink and dunk year 2
- Haleys first year we ran a metric ton of the arians passing scheme
-arians first season he ran whiz’s offense with a heavy dose of rushing .. it wasn’t until 08 that he fully installed his air coryell based passing attack…

This is normal… you cant overhaul an offense in one season without massive confusion from the players… they mostly aren’t rocket scientists… you add wrinkles…

The bigger issue is that the line still isnt pass blocking well enough to utilize anything deep… plus our wrs aren’t exactly deep threats per se.. it’s definitely a hole in the offense

Where does Randy Fitchner come into play..................... or is he exempt due to his kindered friendship history and doesn't count due to him just helping a friend out in time of need.?

Salute the nation

In all likelihood Ben&Harris will be broken before seasons end. Then it gets real ugly. Only so much even a young body can take with Harris before he hits that wall. He takes a lot of punishment because the OL is not top notch when it comes to run blocking.

3rd and 4 or less and we heave it downfield 30-40 yards.
makes no goddamned sense.

especially when you're playing the worst run defense in the league.

we do not speak that name here.

Why did Buddy Ryan try to punch him?
Great moments in NFL history.

Gilbride and Ray Sherman were still worse. And don’t forget that Sherman was hired as an “offensive consultant” under Fitchner.

I still suggest that the alarming similarity of offensive strategy between Fichtner and Canada suggest that they are NOT implementing whatever offense they want. They are implementing a style of offense that is dictated t them.

Now, I don't know if the guy calling the shots is Ben or Tomlin, but whoever it is needs to shut the **** up. I have a hard time believing Ben, who has made his entire career out of throwing downfield is cheerleading an offensive philosophy that has him literally throwing 2 and 3 yard passes as much as 60 or 70 percent of the time. Keep in mind, before the last few years, Ben was near the top of the league all-time in yards per pass.

Yeah that dink dink **** is hard to grasp considering his career is down field throwing. The even harder concept is the middle of the field. It appears the switch that no go zone with the defense, who for 5+ years wouldn't/couldn't cover the middle to save their life. They'd get carved up by any off the bench bum.

He might be when the OL is able to keep the DL out of his face for a whopping 2 seconds, literally.

the NT may as well be handing the ball to Ben since he's pushing Turnstile Green into the backfield within .5 seconds of the snap.

we are a 1/2 a game out of first place. one of only 7 teams with 3 or less losses. it is what it is. the standard is the standard. stop whining. be positive. it won't hurt,. i promise.

3rd and 5, multiple go route for 30 yards.. with less than 20% completion rate is what kills me!

The motion does do a lot… whiz routinelynused motions in simular ways… motion is key to modern offenses, but so is speed and blocking, and we are not exactly stacked on either yet…

That motion does a multitude of things… first of all it gets someone to commit to the man on the move exposing part of the coverage, secondly it acts as a distraction for backfield reads because the guy can get the ball on a jet sweep so they have another body to pay attention to… when done right , motion peeps the defense open and gives the qb a real good idea of where the open reads most likely will be…

Our issues are that our best blocking wr is put for the season, the oline still has issues especially the two rookies one cant handle big powerful dts and the other gets routinely beat on speed rushes around him so plays have to happen quickly before the rush gets there…

Canada designed a lot of plays you are seeing high powered teams run i. The nfl. He was a consultant to several nfl teams while he was in college.. I think the knee jerk reaction over him isn’t realistic…

I keep pointing out that going back into cowhers days the majority of an offense the first year of a new oc is almost always made up of a lot of plays retained from the previous oc out of necessity because you can’t overhaul an offense in one season… go. A k and watch each of the past ocs we changed to and the first season reflected the previous oc each time

Fitcher rand a dink and dunk with a bs run blocking scheme , but his first year looked like haley a lot more than his second…

Haley ran a totally different offense than arians, yet that first year we ran a metric ton of arians stuff

Arians was a deep pass happy acolyte who never really committed to tge run game, but in 07 we ran willie parkers legs off in whiz’s offense… heck look up the 08 preseason articles about arians finally being able to fully switch over to his offense…

They work wrinkles in and some plays tthat first year, but there always is a lot of the previous years overlap… and last year our offense was not exactly built by a genius…

As my previous post points put, the first year of a new oc, especially under Tomlin, always has a ton of the previous offense worked in … this is going to work… its what other teams are already doing to a point.. but yes the blocking has to get better for any growth to happen…
