I've seen several former players come to the defense of Tomlin, and that's great. You loved your coach, it's what you should do as a person. But you're letting your biased opinion speak at that point. You have to step back and look at the results, and they have not been good. One of the best excuses I've seen is, "well you don't know if the next guy will be any better". As if that's how you should approach years of mediocrity. "Well, it could get worse, so lets not even try"Arthur Moats is the biggest homer I've heard so far, he said we are right where we should be, Tomlin doesn't have the QB to compete, and he doesn't have the roster to compete so 10-7 is better than we should be, blah, blah, blah then they read my text on the air, asking well what about when we did have the QB and the roster, we didn't win, he said the players didn't perform well enough.
I don't know if finishing a season among the worst records in the league would actually be worse than knowing you won't make it out of the first round of the playoffs and you will be embarrassed in the process. At least with the bad record you'll get a decent draft position. What do we get for the debacle we just suffered through? Pick number 21.
Since 2016, here's where we picked in the first round: 25, 30, 28, 10 (traded up, bad bad bad trade), 24, 20, 14 (traded up to play him out of position), 20, and now 21. Our average draft position since our last playoff win is 21.
Those complaining about the roster and using it as an excuse FOR Tomlin, don't realize that he is also the REASON the roster is what it is. Living in mediocrity on the field, off the field, and in the draft.
