With Seattle set to make Russell Wilson the highest QB ever, how much do yinz think Ben is going to get? Obviously I would bet Tollner is going to sit on the boat and wait for it to happen and I acknowledge that. I'm guessing approximately 105-110 mil/5 years. It would be a splash resigning and we acknowledge that.

I think that's fair money but it also depends on how good a team Ben wants to have around him under the cap. I like to think he's smart enough to realize that. OTOH Troy will probably retire and maybe they'll cut Allen (probably not) and let Worilds walk (they should) so that should save some money.

They're probably going to try and salvage Allen because he'd be more dead money on top of Woodley's. Troy retiring would be huge and I wouldn't be surprised if Worilds goes to wherever Lebeau goes and then maybe resign Moats for 3 years 2/mil year. Also with Lebeau leaving, does he take Deebo with him even though he's not under contract?

I think Deebo will either play here or nowhere. His family is here and in nearby Akron and he turned down offers to play in other places after the Bungles. It's more a matter if HE wants to keep playing. Now you can say he's 37 and the second-best LB on the #18 defense but you don't have anyone else either. I think that ship has sailed for Jones and Worilds. Jones has reached his max level of competency which ain't a lot and Worilds is not great, not bad, but Just A Guy who's going to want another $10 mill and clearly isn't worth it. You can find JAGs for less money, like Moats.

I just don't want to end up like the Ratbirds where Flacco gets all the money and they can't afford to have a lot of good talent around him.

All excellent points. Jones is coming on year 3, this is where I usually form my opinion on top draft picks. Point taken with Deebo. Reality is, the majority of the NFL teams are ending up where the Ratbirds are, hell, I'd hate to be Chicago a year after dishing that 7 year 120 mil disaster and having to eat it...

Hopefully, Ben does make his contract somewhat cap friendly. Otherwise, he kills the teams chances of signing anyone else. $20 plus million in a cap hit is huge for one player. I know he is the key to us winning but we need the players around him. Giving up a couple million shouldn't hurt him.

With the $$$ qbs are getting, you better hit on your draft picks and get production from them while on their rookie contracts, like Seattle is doing right now.

Seattle is also about to break the bank on Wilson so it will be interesting what they look like in a couple years. But, who cares if they end up with back to back SB's.

I've seen this posted a couple of times (not sure if by the same person), but why do people think that Worilds will go to wherever Lebeau goes if he is one of those ****** Tomlin players that Lebeau was saddled with after having no input in the draft?

ben has already gained 102 milion from us , is his second big contract .. the others you mention (wilson flacco..)were at their first .. i hope ben take something less now or maybe structure an eight years contract that essentially is 4

The way I see it is this...if Ben wants to survive a few more years he will take a friendly deal. If he wants th most $$$ he can get, he will get it, but he'll probably end up playing 8-10 games a year because they won't be able to keep him upright or the defense on the field long enough for him to catch his breath.e

I'd like him to get 15-16MM, but he'll probably get 19-20MM

Why ? Would you take less to do your job ? This will probably be his last contract I doubt he just takes less because he already got millions from us...he will do the best to provide for his family..like any of us here would

Exactly. We will learn a lot about how competitive Ben Roethlisberger is in the next six months. If he measures success by the amount of 0's on the paycheck, we will learn that. If he measures by ability to get himself another SB, by taking reasonable money (for his level) and saving some for weapons and defense, we will learn that too.

I doubt he will take a Brady contract, but hopefully he will take something similar.

I hope Ben will sign a 7-8 year deal with some of it backloaded to make it look like a huge deal but in reality he gets more cash up front and we get to lower his cap number by spreading his bonus over a few more seasons. And what it really ends up being is a 5 year 100 million dollar deal with the team having to extend him in year 5 or 6 when his salary becomes too much to afford. So instead of 20 million upfront he gets 30 million but the team gets a few extra years to spread that and any other bonus money over.

are we even sure Worilds can play golf?

I was thinking the same thing, but Mrs. Roethlisberger doesn't make as much money as Mrs. Brady. Baby formula and diapers are expensive for both households. Mr. Brady doesn't make as much money as Mrs. Brady either, but the way the Pats* operate it wouldn't surprise me if Blank or Belicheat sends briefcases full of cash under the table to him.

Would be a mistake to duplicate the Flacco situation forcing the departure of other key players.....

When have we ever used big money in free agency? Everyone makes it sound as if Ben takes less we are going to go sign some big name guys, it never will happen. We need to hit on draft picks.

I hear whispering

Ben - "I want $20 million per year"

Steelers - "We'll trade you"

Ben - "I'll retire before I accept a trade"

Steelers - "We're sorry to announce, Ben has decided to retire"

"With the 22nd pick, the Steelers select - Jameis Winston"

Roethlisberger 'prays' he can stay with Steelers when deal expires

“Playing this year at my current salary, it's kind of taking a hometown discount,” Roethlisberger said.… It is kind of taking a discount compared to maybe where it could be compared to other quarterbacks.”

“I’d retire before I’d accept a trade,” Roethlisberger said, via Ron Cook.“I mean, it would have to be something really, really unbelievable for me to even consider it.”

Yeah but at some point you will have to resign the following: Bell, Heyward, I lineman like Decastro, AB, Etc. It ain't free
