So we all know that they overplayed their hand on Watson, burned their bridges with mayfield, and massively overpayed watson to get him there

Now reports from turdland say they fully expected to recoup a first round pick for baker in a trade

Here is the problem now… nobody wants his 18 million dollar guaranteed contract… nor the Drama he brings… it gets better, with the panthers breathing heavily on pickett in the first round, and Seattle not apparently interested there isnt a real opening for him to go to… and ot gets even better

Rumors are they approached a team about him being available and were told they would have to give up a pick to have them take that contract on 😂

Wait it gets even better… Mayfield is super pissed and talking about skipping all browns functions and maybe even sitting out the season… and they already lost case keenum… and there are real suspension whispers coming out about Watson, maybe even worse than ot was originally was expecting to be because the league is pissed about his contract being set up to thwart him losing money during a suspension…

And tge absolute best part is that Watson’s 5 year 230 million dollar deal is only set to count 10 million total against the cap this season, meaning that the rest of the years it will average 55 mill per, making their window pretty much this year before cap hell eradicates the roster… i mean assuming it doesn’t this year since they originally planned to shed Bakers contract

I just don't see anyone trading for Baker. The Browns really have no choice but to release him or just allow him to sit out the season because I don't see any way he suits up for them again.

The Browns will always be the Browns. They will find a way to screw themselves in one way or another. First you pick up Mayfields fifth year option, talk openly about him being YOUR guy, then go ALL in....AND I mean jumping into the deep end fully clothed for Watson and completely screw any value you had for Mayfield.

I feel bad for Mayfield, he's the best QB they have had in some time, brings them their first playoff win in forever, plays hurt all season long, and literally gets **** on. They can't shed that contract without a trade of some sort, and as it was alluded to in the OP, no one is taking that contract AND giving a first round pick. They can't cut him, that 18m is guaranteed. So even with Watson's contract only counting 10m on the cap this year, they will have 28m in the QB position, and may not have a QB for most of the year.

There is absolutely no benefit to releasing him… his fifth year option is 100% guaranteed

They almost have to just hold on to him and hope some injury makes somebody desperate

Browns over paying Watson contractually and in draft picks has pretty much ruined their chances of winning anytime soon.

Ravens are going to have to give Jackson 55+ million to keep him. And that’s with him regressing each of the last three seasons since starting. Defenses have figured him out. So they’ll probably have to give him 250+ million yo stay and handicap them.

Cincinnati has a chance but god we all know they’ll **** it up somehow. They always do.

Pittsburgh might be able to win with an awesome defense and tough running game and a QB that plays smart.

If I'm Mayfield, I pull a hammy during camp and let them deal with Watson's suspension with Brisset and whatever street free agent they can afford.

Lol. The thought of Mike Tomlin winning a playoff game. Gives me hope for my big powerball win!

And yet, what I saw was that Vegas has the Browns favored to win the division. And the Steelers last of course.

The browns screwed this up like the Steelers screwed up the AB situation. The Steelers set an arbitrary deadline for a trade and they didn't have AB on board with a trade so he screwed it up. Setting the deadline also cut his value. It's like putting up a Going out of Business sign.

If the browns decided they were moving on from Baker, they should have told him that then asked him where he'd like to go. Then you get him to sign a new cap friendly deal that would have made a trade easier. You do that then you start shopping him. Once you trade Baker, THEN you make the move for Watson or Wilson or even Rodgers. But you do it from a position of strength.

I thought his signing bonus was $150 million and this years base salary was $1 million. That means his cap hit would be $31 million this year. He did get a signing bonus didn't he or did I miss something? That gets spread evenly over each year of the contract. But, maybe I missed something about that.

Nope his salary is 1 million and he has a 46 million dollar signing bonus

Every year after this he has a 46 million dollar guaranteed salary

There is talk they intend to rework his contract each year to convert all but a million of his salary to signing bonus and reduce his cap over the first 3 years… but that backloads everything badly… like absurdly over the end two years

$55 million per year for one player. Even if the salary cap goes up 10%, that means it moves from $208 million in 2022 to $228 million in 2023.

So Watson will take 25% of their salary cap. Ouch. Add in Garrett at $29 million and Cooper at $24 million, a total of $108 million for Watson, Garrett and Cooper, meaning almost 50% of the salary cap on THREE players.

I hadn't seen that. So, basically, Cleveland guaranteed his entire contract and minimized the impact to him for his looming suspension. Sure would be nice if Rog could reprimand them for that but that's business I guess. I hope he gets the entire year off (as he should) and then his large cap hits will hit.

Anything to chap the Browns ***. I would laugh my *** off if that happens. The Revenge Tour could be amusing.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
I do NOT want The Representative of The Lollipop Guild anywhere near our team.
Maybe as the clipboard holder for Mitch, but not as starter or even our #2.
Leads league in passes batted down at line of scrimmage and general douchery.
Better actor than QB.
HARD pass.

So the Browns are asking for a team to do them a favor and relieve them of Mayfield’s cap hit AND they would also like their first round pick?

It is crazy but that is the going price for QB's. in a couple of years it will be up to 60 million for them. The NFL will have a cap surge just wait and see. As much as we like to make fun of the browns, this is not a problem unique to them. As long as that TV money keeps coming a handful of players on every team are gonna get crazy contracts and they will keep getting crazier.

i don't want the little Brown elf on this team. I'm content with MitchBurgh!

Yeah mayfield is a bum… shows you where the braintrust is in evaluating qbs… leads the league in forced throws into coverage almost every year… terrible locker room guy… Tomlin just wants him because he was a #1 overall… that dick comes here and ill have hundreds of tee shirts with whatever Jersey number he wears printed on a giant wang…. And i bet ill sell out of em lol

Which is why teams with franchise QB's on their first contract will have a huge advantage. Completely support drafting the franchise QB and getting those five affordable years - do not support drafting a guy just because he's there and then having him sit on the bench for 20% to 40% of that affordable contract.
