How screwed are the Browns now?

Yeah mayfield is a bum… shows you where the braintrust is in evaluating qbs… leads the league in forced throws into coverage almost every year… terrible locker room guy… Tomlin just wants him because he was a #1 overall… that dick comes here and ill have hundreds of tee shirts with whatever Jersey number he wears printed on a giant wang…. And i bet ill sell out of em lol
Giant "Wang" for the win! we must be about the same age

I didn't see where, in the link provided, it says Tomlin wanted him. I thought it said the Steelers wanted him. But, then again, I didn't see anything that resembled a quote from anyone in the Steelers organization. It seemed like the article was based on the "pondering" of a Cleveland beat writer. Did I miss something? Is there a link out there saying it's Tomlin that wants Mayfield?

He'll get released and picked up by some team like Detroit.
I read that since they picked up his fifth year option last year he’s guaranteed $18.9 million, so there’s no incentive for the Browns to release him. The only way to lessen the cap hit is to trade him.

Speculation is that they may need to renegotiate and break up the $18.9 million into signing bonus vs salary to get teams interested in trading for him.

Sounds like a ******* mess.

One incentive to release him, cap hit or no, is the effect having him in the locker room might have. You don't continue living with your disgruntled ex after you get a new love of your life. A pissed-off, disgruntled, jaded, and jilted Mayfield could cause havoc on that team.
I'm all for it!!

better them than us! They want a #1 for him. Yea, not happening with that salary hit.

I will buy one……and hang myself with it as our team would have officially jumped the shark.

And yet, what I saw was that Vegas has the Browns favored to win the division. And the Steelers last of course.
It’s Vegas, not a prediction as much as not making the money

If I'm Mayfield, I pull a hammy during camp and let them deal with Watson's suspension with Brisset and whatever street free agent they can afford.
Haskins for Mayfield, straight up, and they pay half of Mayfield's salary.

Nah unless they are sending a second and a fifth our way… 9.5 million on a backup qb sounds miserable to me… baker isn’t a good qb.. he just isnt no matter what the morons on the Fan say… he loses games, over and over… he isnt a winner… he is a selfish jackass and crybaby. He’d take stats over a win every single day unless the win got him more attention from the national media…

Yeah, but I also saw some talking heads from NFL network predict the Steelers last and Browns first. Arthur Moats went for Steelers last on his podcast.

The Steelers don't want Mayfield. That's bullshit thrown out there by Cleveland press to try and make it seem like Baker is worth trading for. What a load of pure crap. F off Browns, enjoy unloading all that guaranteed money on your 3 win over .500 and one playoff win qb. Christ, remember win winning was required for a monster contract? This guy puts up some numbers against a **** division with nary a big win and the idiots in Cleveland set their team back a decade for him. Good grief.

Those same talking heads have predicted Steelers last for the last 4 years. Maybe, just maybe, if they keep on making that prediction, they'll be right one day. But, it won't be because they're actually knowledgeable about what's going on with the Steelers.

Meh I probably got suckered by jumping to conclusions since 2 of our 3 qbs on the roster are rejected high first rounders that didn’t live up to the hype and as far as I remember during the tomlin era we’ve already taken two ex brown first rounders they were cutting ties with on the team… so it sounded believable lol

The smart money next year will be on the Bungles taking a step back, the browns imploding under the pressure of expectations, and the division being decided by the Ravens or us depending on how well the draft goes…

Funny thing to me is that while everyone else in the division is loading up on offense, we're reinforcing our defense.
The Ravens D has taken a step back. The Bengals D isn't really scaring anyone. And, the Browns have about 1 - 2 years before they won't be able to afford their top defensive talent.
Also, we're taking a page out of the old playbook and building up the running game and skill positions on offense so that when that Franchise guy comes along, he can step in and not have to do too much. Slow and steady approach. Rather than the "quick fix" the Browns are attempting.
