I was reading Ben's comments, and he really seemed to like Miller on and off the field. Lots of guys did.

I think the loss of Miller could impact the team more than we think even if he was side the downside of his career.

I remember he was out one year, and it made it even harder to run the ball. I'm thinking our tackles will miss his pass blocking, and our backs will miss his run blocking.

Great player, leader and presence. Ben's safety outlet...the things he excelled at are myriad.

JJ looked good later in the season when he got a chance but I think they should draft a guy.

Of course he will be missed as a chain moving option and as a great blocker, this is a no brainer. I hope they invite him as some sort of coach come training camp and teach everyone how blue collars work

His leadership will also be missed. It could throw Ben off a bit as he relied on Miller as a safety blanket as a blocker and receiver. By Ben's words, Heath could be viewed as his best friend on the team.

I wish Heath would be back for one more year as we are close. I can not recall him having many concessions, but did notice he was excused from a few practices.

I think Jesse James did quite well for a rookie filling in, although I'm still pissed at him for cheating on Sandra Bullock.

Yes his leadership, that's why I want him back as a coach on TC

To me it forces the FO to re-sign Ramon Foster. I would have gone LG at pick 1.25 this year. Now you resign Beachum and have the option to take a top TE or a DB. I'd probably lean TE in round 1 given that at 1.25 the top TE may still be on the board but there will be several DBs selected before then. TE is the better value for me here.

As far as the team and games, man Heath is going to go on the most under appreciated Steeler list. Heath was an excellent blocker whether he was at the end of the line or split wide. He blocked in the run and passing game. I don't see Jesse James replacing what Heath provided. We will either draft high or sign a veteran to fill the gap for a year so we can address other needs first.

I think in no way do we go into the season with James and Matt Spaeth and even with a new draft pick. I say they will go out and sign a FA.

I think Heath's retirement will lead to more Coach-like threads.

I can see it now...

What will Miller do now that he is retired?
Now that Miller is retired will he think about coaching?
Will Jesse James adequately replace Heath Miller?
Will Heath Miller make the HOF?
How many socks does Heath Miller own? does he mix them in with his underwear?
Heath Miller, discuss.

you forgot the "Rate Heath Miller among post 90s Steeler Players on Offense who went to school in Virginia"

and

"If Heath Miller liked Quaker Oats, how would he prepare it on mornings when it is raining?"

>>No

Will Heath Miller make the HOF?

No, but if the Steelers had a " ring of Honor " he would be good enough to make it.

And since you are mocking me, I'll use to opportunity to hammer a familiar but true tune. I have been on leadership or lack there of since Tomlin took over. The best players and leaders were Cowher players. Now that Miller has retired, who's left?

I think Tomlin should keep Miller's locker in the locker room, and put it between Bryants and Bells, so they don't talk about smoking weed.

It's all fun and games until the black and whites show up. Tomlin wisely banned the locker room games. Bell is now a part-time hip-hop artist. Let's hope he doesn't embrace their lifestyle. His street credit is good enough where it is. :)

Heyward
Ben

In answer to Coach's thought-provoking question...

I think we may see a new starting tight end next year. I could be wrong though. I should probably leave the prognosticating to professionals like Mel Kiper Jr.

Not me, it improved my chances of her being my next wife.

So you're sayin' there's a chance!

Heyward
Ben

Heyward is a leader type. Ben, I suppose but mostly because he's the quarterback.

But the old Bill Cowher players. Ward, A.Smith Farrior, Miller, Polamalu, Harrison, et all tower above what we have today in terms of leadership. It's true and a reason why the Steelers often play down to the level of their competition.

Eh, that started with those guys still there though, see the 2006 season, '07 postseason, and 2009.

The Super Bowl XL team was probably the best team in terms of locker room when compared to any of the Pittsburgh teams in the past 20+ years. Unfortunately, you probably won't see a team loaded with leaders like that again. There just aren't that many coming into the NFL.
