Howard to Start againt Jets

During his proven winning Howard always stepped on the field with the far superior talent than the opposition. It really helps when a QB has a stacked D, plays weaker opponents and has an offense just absolutely LOADED with weapons…not a scenario the Steelers will EVER be in tho.

Anything less than winning, when all he had to do is manage the game and not give it away, would have been uncivilized.
I completely agree with this, but add that Allar may not be a winner of important, big games.

It's still way too early, and only the stains give out hats for pre-season accomplishments.

KFP looked brilliant in preseason 3 years ago, and has since been able to hold the clipboard in a grueling POs and still gets dumped by every team that gives him a shot.

And neither of Howard or Allar have played with a decent OL and starting WRs against scheming NFL Ds yet.

So I'm gonna trust the new Mike's judgment here, because the public display thus far is a mixed bag, with the entire roster not quite up to varsity standards yet.

Howard could top out at Rudy if he keeps developing…BUT

Luckily we already have in his prime Rudy in house, and under contract!!!

If Howard keeps his nose to the grindstone maybe one day he too can become a bonafide NFL backup like Rudy.

To my eyes Allar looks to be the superior NFL prospect and should be the guy competing with next year’s drafted QB for the starting role.

Or will Art just tell them to scoop up Cousins or some other ancient retread???
I don't think I'm touting that Howard be QB1... just don't think it's fair to say that "he's not even a NFL backup" after one official start during a preseason game.

Rumor has it that Coach Big Mike says 'Roman's routes weren't clean and Will compounded the problem by still throwing the ball to him on both INTs'.

Just saying...

7 years ago… we need a capable backup now. If we didn’t have Allar Howard could definitely be our developmental #3 quarterback but we have Allar.
7 years ago, Rudolph was 24 and in his second season. Just like Howard is now. Yes, he made two big mistakes, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he's not "even close to being an NFL backup." That's complete hyperbole. Howard has shown in both games that he can layer the ball nicely over linebackers for completions -- that's not a pedestrian skill.

They don’t have the space to keep four QBs. Howard is two and a half years older than Allar. He also had the opportunity for a fifth year of development under Ryan Day in a potent offense. The odds aren’t in his favor.

still sniffing your own farts.

You know how a mature person should’ve responded to that, “yeah you were right as you often are.” You decided to go a different route. So here’s my response, the only way my a*****e is coming into this conversation is concerning being correct. Here is what I mean, I’m still s***ing all over you when it comes to roster construction and being correct. On that note, bye Felicia.

I just don't care if they keep 4

I’m far from sold on Allar yet either

It would be foolish to be too high on either prospect with such a small sample size

From the very limited sample we’ve seen it’s obvious to me who has the better NFL toolkit, hopefully MM can maximize his talent.

They’ve definitely got the space
Trust me when I say 50-53 on the roster will ALL be very easy to release/cut/replace

So yeah…they could keep 4
**** they could keep 5 not that it would ever be necessary

You’re WAY overvaluing the 50-53 players on any NFL squad. Ffs the bottom 10 on most rosters are replacement ready at any second.

Keeping 4 is simply unconventional
But the Steelers like EVERY NFL team do indeed have they space should they choose, it just requires a tad more creativity in roster building…but VERY EASY to accommodate 4 spots…it’s just rare that teams face the situation the Steelers are in because most teams don’t neglect addressing the position like the Steelers have done for years.

I never suggested he couldn’t become a backup…he’s definitely got that potential

Hell I said he COULD top out at Rudy who is a very solid NFL backup

I will say my way too early prediction is that he will be slightly better than KFP, mostly because the team didn’t waste a first on him…he looks like a 4-6th round QB, ya know, like KFP should’ve been

If he’s lost trying to slip him on PS I wouldn’t lose a second of sleep over it, he ain’t that guy

Are you sharing your weed???

I’m not a consumer of the herb, ganja, devil’s lettuce or whatever slang you want to use concerning that substance. So yeah, you’re asking the wrong fellow about inebriation. Then again, I’m not the person advocating for keeping four QBs on the active roster. I could pose the same question to you all.

You seem a bit touchy...

Find the post that shows that ANY OF US suggested to keep all 4 QBs.

I'll wait...

Howard literally has had one throw I would call NFL level. The almost td to Tonyan. Allar has made multiple NFL level throws. Hell, he had multiple NFL level throws last week but most were dropped. There is no comparison between Allar or Rudolph to Howard. Rudolph as a rookie and second year player under Tomlin looked better. And Allar currently looks way better. Maybe it starts clicking and Howard takes off but he currently far from being an NFL backup

I haven't seen any from training camp videos either. I said in another thread, Howard needs another special trait to stand out.

He doesn't have anything special talent wise. So he’s going to have to make it up between his ears. Those two interceptions shows he is far from having it upstairs either. If we cut Rudolph for him we better pray our offensive line improves. Because Allar isn't ready and Howard is even further from being ready
