I know the 2015 draft will be pretty much all defense but.....

I understand the thought process. But, what if he isn't as good a LG as he is a tackle or the tackle they draft turns out not to be good? If they pursue this route, they better be sure that it is a can't miss LT because we already have too many failed LT experiments trying to hold down the right side.

both Gilbert and Adams never shoud've been projected to be LTs, that's a scouting mistake.
Beachum has already played LG for us and done well enough to know he'd be a surefire starter.

and yes, only if there's a can't miss prospect we'd be able to try this, as every 1st or 2nd rounder should be, maybe not all stars but solid starters at the least

Good points. Thanks for the discussion and clarification.

It would be nice to have that prototype LT, but I'm not sure I consider the position a priority, especially given the issues on the defensive side of the ball. Beachum isn't exceptional in any area, but he holds his own more often than not: kind of like Max Starks, but smaller, more athletic and not as lazy.

They pretty much have to go defense early and often. There's no pass rush and the DBs are terrible.

To put it in perspective, despite having the likes of Roethlisberger, Bell, Brown and Bryant, all of us who are honest with ourselves, know the Steelers have virtually no chance of winning the Super Bowl because the defense is THAT bad.

I do not believe we will find a sure up grade in the second round or at the end of the first in regard to a left tackle. The good ones are generally gone by the end of the top ten picks. Right now we are not close to a top ten pick and if we hit the playoffs they will likely be out of reach. A corner could be there. A pass rusher doubtful for the ones that look to be real good. We might have a chance for a prototype nose in the second but then what do we do with big Dan defensive end? Lots of things we need and I would not even rule out a top qb if one fell to us so we could have Bens replacement on the team. We have so many needs on the team now that just about the best player available will be an upgrade some where on the team. Our defense is the weakest unit right now and we may need to hunt for something via free agency to find an impact player.

I think that weapon needs to be a TE. I also think we need a T

But yes all defense other than that.

Worilds wants to get paid. That's why he didn't sign a deal this past off-season. He has been an average LB this year. He was better in the last 6 games of last year than any time this year to this point. Unless he is willing to cut his pay this year by more than half, he should be let go. I'd give him, at most, 3 to 4 million per.

he should've accepeted whatever extension was offered to him. He bet and lost (unless we get to the playoffs and he becomes a young Woodley all of a sudden)

I think we'll pick up a wr in the first rd, a center in rd two, and a very small but fast rt in the third rd.

can you imagine if this offense were to get one more stud weapon at either receiver or running back? Just think what another 6'3+ talented receiver would be like for our opponents to defend. I know secondary will get a ton of attention but I will not complain at all if we get another playmaker on offense as they would pretty much be unstoppable....sort of like Green Bay...lol.

Imagine if our supposed new weapon (Archer) wasn't a bust? I hand over his touches to Bryant, who has proven he can make splash plays.

Steelers need a cover corner
and a pass rusher

maybe 1 and 2 in the draft

and then 1 and 2 in free agency

a major weakness needs addressed

Left Tackle in the 1st or 2nd round Please. Or not if we are getting a decent vet in FA
Our offense is one of the best in the league, our defense is one of the worst, and you want to potentially go offense first?

considering we let Worilds go, we'd have 10 millions in cap space to go for a top CB or OLB in FA. So yeah, if a franchise LT is there I woudn't doubt it for one second

If you're talking about offense, they could use a top LT or another playmaker at receiver. A special tight end is another option, but I don't see the need (or carries) for another top running back.

Of course the pass rush and defensive backfield needs work, but I'm not ready to sell out on defense. This regime has not done a good job at all in high draft picks used on defensive players. Not a single franchise player in that group.
