Initial Thoughts - Jets game

In defense of that pass Calvin did make a Moss-like catch earlier in the game. Catch is going to be hard to make no matter who is attempting it if they are going to allow the defensive back to mug them.
They had an entire game to feel out what the refs were allowing and not allowing. No?

Don’t want to dampen the enthusiasm and excitement of the win today but the Jets ran all over this football team today and the Jets are not a good team. Defense made Fields look like an elite QB out there.
The Jets OL without their talented guard Vera Tucker pushed the defense all over the field and Tomlin and his lackey Austin had no answer.
The offense was saved by the veteran Rodgers and his quick release and timely throws with little help from a porous OL and absolutely no running game.
Of course the always reliable Boswell once again delivered the winning kick.
This team is not well coached and it shows. Inability to make adjustments, some questionable offensive playcalling at times continue to plague this team.
The highest paid defense by a lot for four consecutive seasons sure resembled last years defense that collapsed the last part of the season.
Idk yet what to think! OL and DL so far concern me. Don’t know if you can fix Broderick Jones as he was raw coming out of Georgia and does not appear he’s developed one bit.
It was a win so don’t want to take away from that but this could get real messy as the season progresses.
The Jets are not going to be a bad team. Even without one guard they have built a good line. Back to back first round tackles, a great RB and the threat of a running QB.

Not fair. Sasquatch is seen a lot more frequently. They do have the same number of career receptions, I guess so there's that.

Great win for the Steelers today.

Rodgers played about as well as anyone could have possibly expected. 22-30 for 244 and 4 touchdowns, and a 136.7 passer rating. He proved he can still play at a high level, and yet there are those here who will still refuse to acknowledge it. His arm is just fine; the problem is his 41-year-old legs. Although Rodgers had great success today, being strictly an immobile pocket passer is going to be hard to sustain over a full season. Especially since Broderick Jones is basically a turnstile at left tackle. Jesus, did the Steelers F this guy up, or what? Should have let him develop at LT, and never moved him to RT. He got owned today. Looks like another first round bust they actually traded up in the draft to select. Calvin Austin had a nice game and may well become a legit WR2.

The running game was as useless as a second dick, no surprise there. Maybe it wasn't all Najee's fault. I did like that Arthur Smith was mixing it up a bit more, throwing fairly often on first down. 34 points is great, but they're going to need to run the ball better going forward.

Special teams won the game today. Boswell, of course, and the huge play made by Gainwell to create the fumble on the kickoff. Gigantic swing in the game right there, and kudos to the offense for cashing it in with a touchdown.

The defense proved ol' MT right, as today was the first time that the New York Football Jets were not forced to punt in the first half of any game since at least 1991. "Historic," indeed. It was cringeworthy watching the Jets move the ball up and down the field for most of the game, but at least the Steelers made some plays on the last two possessions when they really needed it. Although Fields could have kept on running and made a first down easily on their last play, instead of putting Garrett Wilson in a tough spot. I did like Ramsey's physicality and passion throughout the game. I'll have to assess his play more closely when I re-watch the game, but I don't think it was his fault that they gave up 32 points. Where was Payton Wilson today? Can't recall any of the ILBs making plays, really. Heyward looks fat and slow, and should be ashamed of himself for his recent contract demands.

All in all, a fun game to watch. A lot more entertaining than the nonsense we saw on offense most of last season. Figured the Steelers were going to be much more interesting with Rodgers this year, and they did not disappoint.

The refs are unpredictable and inconsistent just about from play to play. There was no more risk in making that pass then as opposed to the first play of the game. Besides that there's a big difference between touchy feely fouls and those that appear to be flat out blatant/no question. That was a blatant flat out unquestionable interference call that was somehow not called (because he definitely didnt miss it) by the ref.

The run defense looks as bad as last year. Derrick Henry is going to run for 200 against this sad sack defense.

Jones was a project from the day he was drafted. He was a physical specimen but his technique was always questioned. He got away with stuff in college that doesn't fly in the pros. Add to that it appears he takes plays off and often doesn't play to the whistle and doesn't finish blocks. Those are work ethic problems. It's time people quit making excuses for him.
