Initial Thoughts on packer Game

I don't think our offense was terrible except for getting away from what was working. The defense on the other hand is a hot mess. Tackling was extremely poor and we don't have guys that track the ball. The pack adjusted and it was pitch and catch for them the second half. I get guys getting beat, but when you don't have defenders in the same zip code for a guy (Kraft) that has been gouging you all game something is wrong. Look at the packs 2pnt play. We didn't have anyone within 10yrds of the receiver. We leave guys wide open everywhere. You would think by dumb luck someone would be covered.

I knew we were cooked when a flutter ball turned in to a 59 yard reception. Honestly, I think the only ones who care about this team getting better are the fans on this site. Whether they know it or not, this team is playing for a high draft pick.
Everybody just looks old and lethargic.

The fact that a pass that bad could turn into a play that big is unfathomable.

We're getting a high draft pick. We just better not trade it for another aging CB to try to salvage this wreck of a team.

The offense wasn’t terrible but stalled at midfield and had too many FGs. You see coaches like Campbell get aggressive because they know FGs are not going to beat good teams.

Here's the kicker. I don't think Love played all that well. He got away with 2 flutter balls and aside from that, I can't recall any throw that was difficult at all. Just like Flacco, shooting fish in a barrel.

Not just that, but those fish were many and wide open all game long.

On offense we were imposing our will with the jumbo package. So of course we go away from it.
They went away from it when the left guard was injured and left the game.
You would think they would have a better back up plan for their most successful offensive formation, but they didn't or dont?!?

The defense is soft. The defensive coaching is terrible. Love completed 20 straight passes last night.

Jalen Warren ran well in the first half and basically had one carry in the second half until the game got out of hand.

Another game against a good QB and team, another blowout minus a garbage time TD.

It’s the same problems, just a different week.

Playing not to lose is losing while playing.

Warren was killing the run and after the 1/2, Steelers went in a different direction as if to show that they make 1/2 time adjustments.

In this case the adjustments were in the wrong direction.

A couple of thoughts where I hope I am wrong: Watt has lost a step. He rarely beats 1 on 1's anymore let alone a double team or being chipped. He got a ton of money and looks average right now. He's definitely not a game wrecker. 2nd is we also just redid Heywards contract to give him more money, but he looks fat and slow. As of now, I am not sure he would make the team next year, especially if they plan to do something about stopping the run. Put Black in the game and let him make some mistakes. I don't see him being any worse than what we are putting on the field now.

As a side note, I did not go back and look at Watt and Heywards stats so far this year. This is just the eye test from watching the games.

Heyward’s money is I believe tied to playoff success, so no worries there.

Both are behind schedule.

This team will never sniff a run in the playoofs with Mike Tomlin and this coaching staff in place. They are simply in over their head.
It never changes. It never imporoves.
The fanbase has hit a level of frustration matched only by Kid Rock doing algebra.

The "historic" defense has no direction, no plan, no identity, and they have no defensive coordinator. This is what you get when you hand 2-3 Hall-of-Famers to the likes of Austin and Tomlin. They are what they are.

In my opinion, the blame lies squarely with Art. He is apparently fine with this as he counts the money.

One player should not make you abandon what was working.

It was the arrogance of said HC to show they make 1/2 time adjustments and to stubborn to go back to what was working.

Didn't even test the waters as Warren had 1-carry the entire 3rd quarter.

Yes Salamolou (sp) didn't help matters, but they still should have driven the run until proven not to work.

Controlling the clock and keeping their offense off the field of play was working and yet abandoned for the sake of adjustments (said adjustments should have been a plan B)

Actual 1/2 adjustments should have been how to adjust for LG being out, more aggressive offense & defense.

those unis suck - they hurt my eyes

pass defense is weak *** hell

TJ needs to get in Love's face

Boz is awesome but settling for 3 is going to hurt

nice to see Wilson make a play deep

DK has got to catch balls like the one in the end zone

running game has been solid - run defense has also been good

very fast 1st half

excellent drive to end the half with the big TD to DK

damn these unis suck

bad penalty on watt to help set up a FG attempt - glad he pushed it left

somebody cover 85

3rd down d still sucks...balls should not float downfield like that for completions...

pedictable play calling on offense and ****** tackling and coverage on defense....

Queen is not tackling anyone

someone ******* cover 85

22-3 through a quarter and a third....bullshit

stupid ******* penalties

the defense couldn't cover a high school teams recievers

******* pitiful

awesome adjustsments to go from running the ball and controlling the clock to gaining nothing in the second half

great 2nd half game plan

complete ******* *** raping by the packers.

28-9 in the second half.....**** none of the coaches deserve their jobs

don't care they are 4-3 and in first place in a ****** division
Right on

The Brightside is We have a good enough QB and Runningback to keep us in the game even when the defense looks this bad, crucial penalties turnovers etc.
We are a WR2 away from being an elite unit.
We had 2 #1's WR on the roster, Pickens is playing for free this year and would have been scary good with Rodgers, He's playing like a top WR this season with Dak.
Front office screwed the team and the fanbase. This should not be overlooked especially with how this mess is unfolding.
We new we had a good QB and a weak defense going into the season, Front office knew we would need to score alot of points to win??
I know its crying over spilled milk but The Steelers are committing the most egregious self inflicted wounds.
Overpaying for old underperforming players
Haven't drafted a quality offensive weapon outside of Pickens in 5 years.
The worst part is NONE of this disaster is surprising at this point in the Tomlin ERA. We knew this struggling defense hasn't been good for atleast a decade.
We know its never getting fixed under the current regime

They're terrible at drafting though. They better be using those draft picks to secure proven talent. Ill wait to give up on the season once one of the other teams in the division pass them....which is no guarantee. AFC North has turned into the NFC South of the last few years.
Thank you!!
Look at the past 5-7 drafts
Has to be league worst for offensive weapon production. I would bet everything I own on that fact
BY A COUNTRY MILE

No, they are terrible at developing draft picks…there is a huge difference.
No, They just bet on the wrong horses.
It's a 100% Talent driven league.
Ben, Holmes, Parker, Bell, Brown, Boz, Pickens. Warren
Get the right horses in the stable development isn't the problem.

They pretty much get what they deserve for bringing Austin back at DC.

I know he has limited control of the defense due to Tomlin, but they needed someone else in that position capable of at least bringing a new perspective and approach to things.

Omar Khan doesn't get a pass either, as he looks like a ******* clown right now with all that new money given to Watt, Heyward, Ramsey and Slay prior to the season.

His and Tomlin's drafting hasn't been too hot either.

There is one thing I am enjoying, and I have eaten my crow previously. I didn't want Rodgers and still would have liked a young guy to be there learning as he plays. However, the old man still looks pretty darn good. The O is fun to watch with him back there, and (as has been mentioned recently), I wouldn't mind him staying another year (assuming he finished the season the way he is playing now). He looks like he's in total control and steers the ship well. He can mentor Howard or another young drafted QB.

Another thing that’s ran its course….Renegade. It’s more common for the other team to make a big play after it’s played now than a big play by the D. Happened again last night. Other teams players and fans openly mock it. It was a Joey Porter thing. Let it go Steelers.

To be honest with you i felt the same way about the signing of Rodgers. I like his play also although his lack of mobility is going to catch up to him eventually. Initially I didnt understand why he would choose the Steelers or why the the Steelers would choose him. I thought there were too many questions on the offensive line and not enough weapons in the wideout position for either to be of much benefit to each other. I figured being in his twilight Aaron might try and find a team that had legit SB aspirations which was not the Steelers.

I thought I was in for the shock of my life based upon the first five games and now its evolving into what I believed it would. I wasn't thinking the defense would be the biggest reason for it though despite calling for Teryl Austin's demotion or release several times in the past. There have been so many bad moves personnel wise whether contracts, signings, trades that its ridiculous.

is not that hard math to realize that:
- 2 DL plus 2 Edge = not enough pressure
- 6 men blitz = burned downfield

so why not 3 DL dammit? help your edge guys get free. Rush with 5, that should be enough to get on the QBs face without completely selling out
It should be, but it isn't. Harmon showed flashes in the preseason and a bit when he came back from his injury, but overall he's been a disappointment. I don't know if he's still not completely healthy, or what, but right now I really hope the guy's not going to turn into yet another first round bust.

I read he's top 5 among rookies in pressures. That factors in teams have completely negated the Steelers' pass rush the past two weeks by quicky throws.

I just read that Aaron said he was using a silent count last night due to the Packer fans. How often does that happen in Pittsburgh?
