I've said as many others have that we have to have a legit # 2. Jonnu is fast and big but his routes aren't super crisp. Combine that with teams knowing he's a crappy blocker and the ball is almost always going away from him on run plays and that makes his usefulness limited. Rodgers said in the post game PC that the Pats* were in a cover 2 shell most of the game. The way you beat that is 3x1,(trips/bunch), 2x2, 3x2, or 5 wide. The problem is the routes you run out of those formations to beat the cover 2 are deeper routes...and we have two problems with that:
1. O-line can't hold up that long. 2. Our receivers outside of DK can't get open against better DBs... or some of our receivers may not run routes well enough or know the playbook well enough to run out of something like trips or bunch. I don't recall seeing one bunch formation last Sunday.
I don't know outside of the O-line which it is, or if it's a combination of things. The Pats* basically said "beat us with your run game...have at it." And we couldn't do it. Don't get me started on making Warren the featured back....we'll have to relive the whole Tomlin historical fascination with midgets running the ball or returning it.
