Interviews for Steelers new head coach thread

That can’t interview him in person yet so maybe it will still come about.
But they’ve put in requests for the two from the Rams already, why not Kubiak too? It’s the same situation

Unless he is lower on their list or not in their list-which I fear

I hope they at least interview Curt Cignetti. he has a proven track record in college. will that transfer to the NFL? I don't know but I do know this he can turn a team around quick and he is a winner with head coach experience.
Thankfully Cignetti and Freeman are locked up and seem to be very happy in there environments. I hope we don't entertain that path. We need NFL ready coaches that no other NFL coaches for asst coaching positions. We don't need to grow 'football' minds into NFL coaches of professionals.

I read earlier that the expectation would be that the Steelers act quickly and hire someone before the end of January, similar to Tomlin, Cowher, and Noll.
The difference is in those other three cases, they knew weeks earlier there would be a vacancy

They will do initial interviews
Secondary interviews with the main candidates
Then they will do salary talks with the top choices..

If they didn’t have the notion that this would/should be time for a change and have a shortlist in mind, I don’t know what to say. But, based on the booth shots during the 4th quarter, I think everyone involved had enough warning.

I think Rooney knows the Shulas pretty well. He might be comfortable hiring that guy.

Will there be anyone in the current staff retained? And if they all get purged do they all get paid? I don't think any chance Austin and Dr. Phil are staying.
If Terrible Austin is here next year in ANY capacity, including men's room attendant, I will lose my ****!

Why are the Steelers not showing any interest in Kubiak, thus far at least?

All the interest seems to lean towards the defense.
As mentioned above, I think it is the Steelers being stuck in the past. The Steel Curtain and Blitzburgh aren’t coming back, no matter who they hire. Either that, or they spent all those millions on defense and want to actually get their money’s worth out of it. The problem with that is most of the players are old, not very good or both.

DK was speculating yesterday on double shot of Steelers the Rooneys would balk at eating all of the assistants contracts.

This is totally rediculous to me. If true it might cost them the HC they want. The Rooneys half to get out of their old school mind set.

The good news is Austin’s contract is up, but Smith’s is not…maybe Smith gets a HC job but I doubt it, he hasn’t done well here, failed as HC in Altanta, and his magic in Tennessee as OC was a long time ago
I read Dr. Phil already interviewed in Detroit.

I'll take Shula for HC. They apparently they did some background on him weeks ago. Has learned and studied under McVay for several years. He ready! Scheelhaase for OC. Bring Flores back for the DC position if he doesn't get a HC gig.

I'm certain that they did, but you have to keep in mind that some of the potential candidates are off limits at the moment due to NFL rules of coaches still in the championship race.

Ejiro Evero.

This might be the guy?

Experienced NFL defensive coordinator in the NFL.
Super Bowl winner as defensive coordinator with the 21 Rams.
Comes from the Vic Farrow Dom capers, defensive coaching tree, And a disciple of the 34 defense.
Young man, only 45 years old
Intelligent, talented, and strong work ethic.
Does have some offensive assistant experience in the NFL also.
Some say leadership style similar to Marcus Freeman’s.
Typical Steeler surprise selection as next head coach similar to the way Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin were surprisingly selected.

That ****** stunk in Detroit and Cincinnati as their DC and was fired both times but Shades hired him and promoted him to DC.
He’d already be gone along with the genius Artie Smith.

I think if Green Bay parts ways with Matt Lafluer, you call him. He could bring Halfley in as DC and lure Willis at QB.

I posted either in another thread or earlier in this one, but I'll repeat it here...

Coordinators or coaches that are no longer employed by other franchises are free to interview right now, in person and zoom call. Those who are still in the playoffs can interview via zoom, but have a cap of 3 hrs. Starting monday, those that were recently eliminated from the playoffs can interview in person. If the candidates team is still active no contracts can be signed or agreed upon. So there is a chance we don't know who our next coach will be until after the Super Bowl.

The GB situation isn't much different than Tomlin's, there would need to be some sort of compensation as he has the final year of his deal still in play, and therefore unless he is fired, GB holds his rights.
