Iran

so it is absolutely embarrassing when you cry

go cry for another mullah.

Please cite a single instance in this entire thread, or anywhere on this board, where I have said a *single* thing in support of the Iranian regime.

Calling Trump & Hegseth's war of choice reckless and belligerent, or to state that they were bamboozled by Netanyahu into attacking Iran, has exactly ZERO to do with showing any type of empathy or support for the Iranian regime. Well, maybe in your mind it does. But that's another story.

those mfers don't do more than lift an eyebrow to help this country. we're fine without them.
the taxpayer money we're spending to keep the Euroweenies safe could pay back SS with a bonus, pay for student loans, cut taxes ridiculously low...

but "an armed attack against ANY member state..."

wtf is going to attack this country? rogue terorrist cells. no country is going to fly bombers over here or warplanes.

**** NATO. it's purpose has come and gone.
Let’s see how long free medical, free child care, and two year maternity leave lasts after they have to pay for their own national defense.

your veiled posts where you unsuccessfully attempt to critique the why of the "war" and go on to ignorantly suggest that nothing is being accomplished shows that you're clamoring for this to be a failure just to verify your TDS.

Reading any amount of your posts, it's abundantly clear you have little interest in the facts, or having real discussions. Rather, you're perfectly content with spreading half-truths and ignorant takes, banging your chest triumphantly. But I'll humor you anyway.

this is essentially NATO

Just as I thought. Nothing new under the sun. You simply disseminate whatever lies & fantasies that pop up in your head. Carry on.

And I have been hopeful that there is a plan for that… especially involving the IDF in conjunction with the UAE, with boots on the ground..
Once we gain control of the straight, we will provide support from offshore as the IDF and UAE special forces do what they need to do inside Iran..

That would be my best case scenario how this all ends and tied up in a neat little bow…
That's my thought as well, and just because the people of Iran are currently unarmed, that's not necessarily a permanent situation.

So, in conclusion, 2, maybe 3 here are hoping for failure in Iran because of the hate of one man.
The rest, actual Americans, are praying for a representative government for the citizens of Iran, freeing them from the tyranny of Islamic oppression.

Do I have that about right?

Gonna cue this up again, to highlight what the (as of now) unarmed citizens of Iran are up against.

Together, the regular armed forces, the Artesh, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, are made up of 610,000 active-duty personnel plus 350,000 reserve and trained personnel. In addition, there is a 260,000+ strong police force, including border guards, under the direct control of the supreme leader. These forces are well-armed with plenty of Russian equipment, and have shown no hesitancy to slaughter masses of their own people.

Not sure who the "...2, maybe 3..." people you're referring to. The very last thing I want to see is "failure in Iran." I most certainly want the Iranian regime defeated, and replaced with a "representative government for the citizens of Iran, free from tyranny of Islamic oppression." I've stated so several times in this thread. I also want their nuclear threat eliminated, and a country no longer able to, or interested in, funding and organizing terrorism in the region.

The current rudderless and seemingly perplexed leadership in the White House, and at the head of the Pentagon, give me plenty of pause if we're on the right path on getting there. But I most certainly hope we get there.

You could be a politician

... just not under Trump.

left that part out of your last sentence. you're welcome in advance.

Ah, thanks, Zona. I did successfully run for school president in the sixth grade in LA in the 80s. I beat child actress Tracey Gold, of all people, who was in Growing Pains at the time. I think I promised to upgrade cafeteria meals, more field trips... When they announced that I had won over the PA system, Tracey Gold started crying and ran out of the classroom. The palace intrigue was unbearable, lolz. ;)

Nope, wrong again. Since Trump started this war, I very much hope he can end this war in a favorable way for the United States. Yes, under President Trump. I'll stand and applaud him if he can get out of this quagmire of his own making.

Thank God for that. Most sane Americans understand that NATO is a defensive alliance amongst allied nations, not a standing military force that some head of state can beckon on a whim when they feel like attacking some random country.

Ironically enough, NATO's cornerstone Article 5, which states an armed attack against ANY member state is considered an attack against ALL member states, has been invoked only once in the alliance's history. It was activated on September 12, 2001, in direct response to the September 11 terrorist attacks against the United States.
The Idea of NATO is great, the practicality of the matter is not so great. It isn't an alliance as much as it is us defending their ***** and shouldering the vast majority of the cost and responsibility while they spend a pittance on defense. Europe has made their own bed and needs to sleep in it.

It sounds like a reasonable analysis..

So let’s wrap this sucker up, make sure all is good, and move onto the next big thing…

GREENLAND!!

Understood, but US military spending and the cost of US global reach in the Pacific and ME far surpasses the relative cost of NATO obligations. Much of that is also tied into NATO members buying our hardware. Not sure it’s a shut & closed case that we’d be better off without it.

For instance, we’re currently blowing through $1 billion per day on the ongoing war with Iran, some $35 billion total, as of April 1.

But the Senate could vote for a US-NATO exit, and that would be that. Close up all the military bases in Germany, Spain, UK, and Italy, bring our 85,000 service members back home, and be done with it.

When this turns out as a favorable outcome for Trump and America you’ll disappear like you always do. We can bank on it.

I don't want to exit NATO, I want Europe to shoulder a much larger financial burden for it's own defense and stop living off of us. We already subsidize a huge percentage of the drug industry for them through our outrageous drug prices on top of defending them militarily. We may be better off doing what Trump is wrongly accused of and cozying up to Russia. It would be a lot cheaper being their ally than their enemy. Particularly with the China issues.
