Is the Steelers organization holding themselves hostage to DEI, because our Democratic owner fears looking like a hypocrite due to championing the 'Rooney Rule' in the NFL ?

After the championing of the 'Rooney Rule' in the NFL I believe our owner has painted himself into a DEI corner. This organization continues to surround our success limited coach with an ever-changing band of followers that will be swapped out as a last resort in an excuse to deflect away from the root cause of our limited success and low ceiling. That root cause is Mike Tomlin. Tomlin is apparently a great person and a wonderful coach in the eyes of his players. But in terms of a coach that can develop a gameplan that can OUTCOACH the head coach of a playoff caliber team? NO, he has proven over and over that he is not capable. Our coach is the champion of DEI in the NFL. The poster boy for the 'Rooney Rule', and I believe NFL will manipulate things just enough to continue his limited success to maintain the illusion of DEI success as an example for the continued championing of the 'Rooney Rule'. I think we all realize that it doesn't take many penalty calls (or no calls) to swing the outcome of an NFL game (hello Kansas City Chiefs).

Imagine if the Steelers finally realized their limited ceiling with Tomlin and pursued success based on actual coaching gameplan ability/success (ie: coaching merit) ? What if they actually replaced Tomlin with a Caucasian rising star coach in the likes of Arthur Smith, Kellen Moore, Ben Johnson, Bobby Slowik, Kliff Kingsbury, or Mike Vrabel ? Has there ever been a head coach in the NFL that has done so little with so much and remained in an organization so long.....ever ? This organization has continued to provide enough key pieces to garner enough success to maintain the ever celebrated 'no losing season' banner for all to cheer. We are the 'Great Value' brand of football team that is apparently just good enough to satisfy the masses and continue to be the NFL's champion of the 'Rooney Rule' and leader of DEI for all to see.

Here we go Steelers !

I don't think the majority of steeler fans care what color the coach is, But I do think that the Rooneys do.

so let me speak for myself. I don't give a rats *** if the coach is Black, White, Brown or Asian. Hell I don't care if it's a green lady from mars, I would just like a coach that could discipline this team and win some playoff games, someone that would give us a legit shot at another SB.

I do think however it's time for the league to have a Native American coach and at this time I am available. just throwing this part out there in case anyone from the front office is reading. lol

Don’t you just know that Tomlin is very well aware of the cushy position he finds himself in. Never, ever having to worry about losing his job while making millions of dollars while delivering mediocre results. That could never and would never be tolerated by any other of the 31 owners hence the no trade clause. He may be a tick above average as a coach but he’s not stupid believe me.
He fell into the perfect situation in 2007.
Let’s face it boys, this Steeler franchise is broken and championships are just fond memories.
The Steeler agenda is so much different now and it’s all about participation trophy’s which satisfies the owner.

I tend to believe Rooney is blinded by loyalty to Tomlin more than any political optics tied to firing a Superbowl-winning black coach who has never had a losing season.

Loyalty can be morally commendable, but it shouldn't be the overriding factor in determining who coaches your team.

It's apparent at this point that Tomlin will either have to leave on his own terms or things will have to get so bad from on field performance standpoint that Rooney will have no choice but to make a move.

Neither thing may occur anytime soon.

As things currently are, Rooney can point to Tomlin's teams still consistently making the post season as a reason to stay the course, though he should be aspiring for more after 8 years having passed since a conference title game appearance and 14 years since a Superbowl.

If Art truly believes and follows the lefty "moral code" of DEI/dems, we are in serious trouble. If his decisions are altered by DEI philosophy, we are in deep trouble.

I think its more that when the press was calling for Cowhers head, Dan stuck with him and he ultimately m guy vs
Hg
won...
and since that happened right before he took over it probably taught Art2 the wrong thing about coaches and . most dont win after a prolonged stay with one team...

I mean what else would holding on to Tomlin prove on the agenda level? He already is the most successful black head coach ever...

Maybe they want him to supplant Noll as franchise wins leader, but honestly, he already has the accomplishments he needs to be a HOF coach, and has plateaued enough to give the franchise legitimate reasons to part with him...

There are probably a lot of bad reasons to keep him that have nothing to do with race...

To fire Tomlin they would have to then hire a trans non-binary coach.
That would make an entirely new Rooney Rule.
The Trooney rule? :ohwell:

What if they replaced him with a rising black, hispanic etc coach? Or does he have to be caucasian? Would that be fine? I just want him replaced with a qualitfied talented coach...regardless of race.

Most wins ever by a Steeler HC.....and the magical number of 200. I truly believe these factors are playing a roll.

It's been 8 years since a win in the playoffs, 8 long years with no change in sight.

Everyone knows this and dislikes it. Welcome to being stuck on Groundhog Day. I have an idea though obsessively fondle the vagina every day crying about Mike. Lather that f- er right up.

This entire thread should be moved there. I won’t give my opinion on this while it is in this forum.
Unfortunately the Rooney rule brings that mess to the football forum. No?

Whether the Rooney rule keeps Tomlin here or not it still is a conversation point in the football forum. I personally believe Rooney keeps him around out of loyalty. The fact that he never has had a losing season. The fact that we are always in the hunt for a playoff berth. I also can see the merit where some might see the other reasons. We live in an era where the NFL puts political issues before the game of football. Lloyd didn't do that. I didn't. You didn't. the NFL did. And for what? Perhaps Money? All that said if a moderators feels a bit weak.....send the thread elsewhere.

Dude keep your politics in your dirty living room. Idiot

You're referring to at least 75% of the "men" who post here. Sopping wet vagina fest of emotion and racism
