Jacoby Brisket???

Mariotta or Bridgewater or Brissett any of these three and they might as well not waste our time and their money. Put it towards Mariotta or Bridgewater or Brissett any of these three and they might as well not waste our time and their money. Put it towards another need position.
Totally agree.

I think Bridgewater was on an upward trajectory before his injury. Marietta doesnā€™t come across as having benefited like Trubisky, behind a stud, with great offensive coordinator. Those 2 and Brissett are ā€œjust a guy.ā€

We have 2 of them already and any of the above 3 in addition will seem like, whoā€™s not gonna lose the job, rather than who won it. They may as well stick with the 2, use cap space and premium picks on all the other needs and bring in a late round, undrafted FA for a camp body/practice squad for this year.

This were I'm at with QB position...

This is the type of signing I do expect from them. Low cost vet to compete with MR and DH. No shock & awe.
Unfortanteatly you are correct.

They may be "just a guy" but if we don't draft a QB, we need 3 or usually 4 "just a guy's" in camp so they need to get at least one QB now and a 4th before camp unless they change how they operate and only have 3 QB's in camp. They have 2 right now.

Great job Dulac, with every QB under the Sun getting linked to the Steelers you finally came across the one Iā€™ve been suggesting as highly probable for over a month.

Is JB great, noā€¦but heā€™s better than Bridgewater imo and legitimate competition for Rudy. A mid range journeyman who should come in fairly cheap. Not to even mention his connections to members of our staff. This is the guy I had tagged as our most likely addition at QB, not an endorsement just a guess based upon past actions.

It was only a matter of time before his name got thrown in the mix too (along with every other available or potentially available QB).

Brissett is exactly the guy teams hope for in their backup QB2. He has demonstrated an ability to competently fill in for a while, but when asked to step up to start as QB1, does not look he can lead a winning team. Several teams have had a look and let him move on because he was not the QB solution.

I'd rather take a shot at Trubisky, or let Rudy/Haskins get some starts.

I guess I just donā€™t understand the plan then?

Whatā€™s the point of bringing in another guy that is maybe just slightly better than MR? Forget all he Tomlin debates, thereā€™s enough talent on this team that heā€™s at least good enough with MR/Brissett/Haskins, the Steelers will win themselves out of a top 10 pick every year and therefore will likely never get a shot at drafting the next franchise QB without using additional draft capital.

And theyā€™ve shown we wonā€™t be players in the sweepstakes for players of Rodgers/Wilsons/Watsons caliber.

So they should be willing to take a flyer on a guy with actual ā€œpedigreeā€ and that has actually shown significant potential, where, in the right situation, the potential could be realized, ie. Trubisky, even if it now costs a bit more than planned. There is a reason the Giants new GM and head coach want him after REALLY ā€œkicking the tiresā€!!! They believe he can push and/or compete with their current first round selection QB. If heā€™s got that ability, in their educated eyes, then he hands down should beat out MR/Haskins and give the Steelers a chance to actually compete with all other FA/draft focus on existing weaknesses.

Or

They should use every penny and premium draft capital on all the other weaknesses, let MR n Haskins fight it out for starting spot and use late draft, undrafted FA to have 4 QBā€™s in camp.

Brissett doesnā€™t make them compete and at best wins an extra game or 2? Whatā€™s the point of that other than an even lower draft pick next year???

I guess we are saying the same thing, but youā€™re more concise! Lol

Right now, they are either going to bring in a "guy" (hopefully free agent) that will compete as a stopgap for a couple of years until they can, hopefully, get a QB drafted in the 1st round and ready to play. We are going to have to suffer without a franchise QB for a while. Build the team and in a year or two, hope that franchise guy falls into your laps but we were never in a position to go out and bring in Wilson or anyone like him. We need our cap space and draft capital to fill the many holes on the team.

Sigh...if I put Vick's Vapor Rub on my balls will these dumb threads stop???

lol
Pun or no pun intended?...mentioning the name of a bad QB as you express your displeasure over yet another thread about a bad QB.

Or would that be considered irony?

I think you should try it but wait till better / warmer weather so you can do it outside at night while mowing your lawn.

The down side to waiting is we will potentially have keep getting these threads.................

This would be signing a QB just for the sake of signing a QB. Good backup, but not a guy who is going to make team better.

Sounds like when they were bringing "punters" in to compete against the Assi-spin.
