Jets want to interview Artie Smith for HC

You just have to laugh if this is true. I got nothing against the guy,but just what has he done? He was a total dud in Atlanta. I could have called running plays in Tennessee with a in prime King Henry. He’s been at best average here. If that.
So reward all this with another HC job? I don’t get it.

Well, if true, I've heard rumors (or maybe starting them) that Tomlin is eyeing the RB's coach from Penn Hills HS to replace him as OC.

Every year we hear stories about defensive players calling out our plays. We are predictable. They teach the players tomlins simple plays and the players execute easily.

I don't even know where to start with this.

A.) Has NY been impressed with the Steeler's O? How, why?
B.) Has NY not figured out that Smith isn't really running the O, just incase they were impressed?
C.) Did Smith impress them with his head coaching stint in Atl?
D.) What did Smith do that impressed them? I'm not seeing it.
You are progressing nicely with your alphabetical tutorial cooch.

Pssst next comes E,F and G.

👏

What the hell are we all missing with Arthur Smith?
What is this fatal attraction to this guy? I simply don’t get this one.
Like some have said here, he did nothing in
Atlanta and had Henry as his feature back in Tennessee.
The bar was so low here to begin with but I just don’t see this big improvement with Artie Smith.

Maybe Rooney has dyslexia and thought his three 7-10 seasons were three 10-7 seasons?

That’s just the type of coach he’s looking for!

In all seriousness he did a decent job as OC in TEN, not awesome but decent. Make no mistake though, you and I both know this is the Tomlin offense. He’d have the QB under center more and we’d be running a lot more play action if it were his offense.

We’re stuck with this Mike pistol whipped predictable keep everything outside and avoid turnovers at all costs offense. Does he even realize how ridiculous 13 personnel ran out of the pistol looks?

I'm guessing the interest in Smith reflects the improvement the Steelers offense showed from prior seasons.

Despite the recent struggles, they ended the season 16th in scoring, compared to near the bottom in each of the last three seasons, and had ranked in the top 10 over the first dozen games or so.

Justin Fields and Russell Wilson (at least for awhile) looked a lot better than they have in recent seasons with other teams.

The league might attribute many of the problems the Steelers offense is currently having to things beyond Smith's control, such as working for an extreme turnover-phobe in Tomlin, who might meddle too much with what Smith wants to do.

I haven’t heard or read any of that type of call out this year. Under the O’Canada experiment it happened often. I just haven’t heard of that this year under Smith’s offense.

What game did you hear this or read it upon?

NOT calling you out or protecting this offensive scheme as it is very predictable.

Do we get any comp if he leaves?

The opportunity to bring in someone better, hopefully they (new OC) bring in a body guard as well so as to threaten Coach Tomlin with bodily harm should he dabble in to the OCs play-calling scheme.

The jets and bears must have loved the fact that the steelers had ZERO opening drive TD'S all season. Pretty sure even Pickett managed one or two of those.

If you sit next to me in the bar I call out our plays all the time. The guy that always comes and grabs the stool beside me sits in amazement “how’d you do that?”

I just laugh and say buy me a beer and I’ll tell ya all game long.

It’s actually quite ez
And I love free beer

One of these days I’ll tell him the trick, not really, cuz I do love free beer

They’re falling right into our clever trap!

We try to lull them into a false sense of security.
Sometimes to really sell the trick we don’t even bother really trying the whole first quarter.

I know the Chiefs were talking about prepping for us being easy, they knew we would run the ball even if it didn't work. I can't remember exactly who else, but there was at least one other team that basically said the same thing, simple offensive scheme.

FULLY agree on easy and simple offense, making it easy to prepare. I just hadn’t outright heard any defensive players commenting on that.

With Matt’s offense, teams were regularly calling out how easy it was to defend. Saying it was the easiest to defend in the NFL

Today’s offense, let this sink in………….

The 4th most rushes in the NFL, yet 26th in season rushing yards……………

You should give a listen to today’s and yesterday’s DK Sport Daily Shot, DK brings up some pretty good comments about our illustrious coach having to be right at all cost. Just a suggestion.

PS. Thanks for all your great post(s) along the way.

Could Coach Tomlin finally have a little bitty branch on that coaching tree?
He's got Ariens. SB winner and 2x Coach of the year...

Still none of our coaches had coaching trees. That happens with longevity in the league.
Dungy would be under Noll IMHO, but no one else of note. Cool that Tomlin came up under Dungy in TB.

Same with Cowher, you going Mularkey? That's it there.

Arians shouldn't count for Tomlin. He was well established as an OC prior to arriving in Pittsburgh and learned absolutely nothing schematically from Tomlin. More importantly, he wasn't hired off Tomlin's staff to be a head coach. He was "retired" from the Steelers before taking over as the Colts OC.

Really, only Mike Mularky on Cowher's coaching tree?
