Jim Kelly's nephew Chad may wim Grey Cup.

Great write up Paul. Dave Keon was my hockey hero when I was a young, young kid. ( yes I’m old)
Been to Guelph a few times.....my ex wife has a big extended family members from there.
My best memory of Guelph was going to a huge crazy Italian wedding. From Drunken Fist fights outside,to someone getting in their car and trying to run over a member of the wedding party ( the jealous spiteful ex)....(no,not me!)
It was ******* nuts.

He is 40, and his been recently been co-opted as TE (more like Gentry than Muth in this O), but is far better at LDE, in my opinion. He fills in a bit at ROLB too. He has watched TJ a lot and knows that when he is playing LB, that he must flow to the ball, fill the gap, and not look flatfooted and lost like Bush.

It is an unfortunate schedule starting at 10am driving thru TO in the early am; they have never played or practised that early in the day, so who knows what will happen. Thanks for the support!
I made it to the game Congrats to you and your son

DIC asked for a bleacher report .............. it's above ........ all from memory so please add any input or correct time lines and perspective from your point of view

Awesome ... thanks Keon was probably my earliest memory on the Leafs ..... then adapted to Borje Salming RIP and Darryl Sittler....... I was 2 when they last won the cup

St Mike's has an immense list of alumni that made the big leagues ........ hockey NFL CFL NBA ......last 3 way smaller lists

Italian weddings................wow

my brother and sister-in-law attended a huge 750 guest list event in Niagara Falls for a niece that married into the mob ........ I do believe the groom is currently behind bars

Yep......I was 7 when they won. Of course back then no team in Vancouver,so you were either a Hab’s or Leafs fan here.
Darryl Sittler,Lanny McDonald and Errol Thompson. Still think they were one of the greatest lines in hockey history.
Remember when Darryl had 6 goals and 4 assists in one game. Equivalent to Big Ben’s 500 plus yard games.
Cheers

February 7th 1976 .......like it was yesterday ............ that line almost never was and they pleaded with Red Kelly to give them some more time together just before that magical night.....
poor Dave Reece Goalie Bruins .........never played in the NHL again

old joke was he was so distraught he stepped in front of a train later that evening ........ only to have the train go through his legs .............HOLY 5 HOLE

CONGRATS to Confluence and his boy #40 Independent Bowl Champs 2022 OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) in CANADA

THOMAS A STEWART SS GRIFFINS (Peterborough ON) defeated St Michael's College Kerry Blues ( Toronto ON) by a score of 48 - 7

Thomas A Stewart dominated the game, beginning with some determined RB effort early in the game followed by fine play by #16 and exceptional effort by #11 (3 Tds in the first half alone)
The only glimmer of hope for St Mike's was a kick return TD where the receiving player pitched the ball backwards and the returner reversed field direction, broke a shoe string tackle and took it to the HOUSE
Other than that huge play the special teams for St Mikes blocked an extra point conversion
In desperation mode St Mike's turned the ball over on downs deep in their end just before halftime.
A beautiful pass into the endzone was broken up at the last second by the St. Mike's team .......leaving mere seconds on the clock for a GRIFFINS 36yard FG attempt
DOINK .......... hit the crossbar and bounced back into the field of play

Halftime........ went to Tim Horton's to warm up 34-7 midway point

Play was already under way when I got back and the GRIFFINS had scored another TD in my absence.
Late in the 3rd quarter they pinned St Mike's deep again .........took control of the ball and scored another TD on the ground

St Mike's never challenged in the 4th

Confluence's boy made a nice pass breakup in the red zone that he probably wishes he was able to control for the INT .........but Griffins played stout DEF and kept them out of the endzone in garbage time

GRIFFINs laid a beating on the largest private school in Ontario ........... stick to hockey ST MIKEs ........ alumni include many NHLers Ted Lindsay, Dave Keon, Tim Horton....list goes on for quite awhile

The only thing I had problem with today............ cheering for a team that dresses like the Patriots........ Confluence ....next PTA meeting .....issue a black and gold uniform

Nice day for football......... brought back memories ........... I used to play on that field with a bunch of former highschool players and members of the Guelph Gryphons football team 30 plus years ago no equipment tackle on Sundays.......... tore my hamstring up so bad one weekend .... kept taping it up and playing ....... big mistake ....never seen so many colours from *** to ankle ........ oh to be young again

Alumni Stadium Guelph ON is now a beautiful facility .......

Thank you Paul!!

That pretty much summed it up. Very pleased, but surprised to see small town lads thump the big school!

First Ontario title ever for the school, many of the parents also attended same, so it wS quite meaningful. The kids are just skying; it was livestreamed back to the entire school, so tomorrow will be quite triumphant.

The awesome thing is having coached 16, 11, 32, 38 and 40 years ago in Novice hockey, and seeing the group provide the team with such a great core for the dream season. 4 of those boys are at hockey practice now.....they took the Oshawa Generals team bus to the game, rolled back out with hockey gear.....they will sleep well tonight!

I have to say that the real diiference was the coaching.....the 5 guys who ran the team worked them hard since before school started in Sept, and it was obvious that the smaller team today just executed football much better today and all season. I'm grateful to the coaches for their diligence and realization early that this might be the year, and for never taking a day off. Such a great life lesson!! Thank you to all highschool football coaches!!

And yes, i will try to do something about those godawful uni colours.

You are quite welcome Confluence

I was surprised that the St Mike's side did not compete better........ as you say small town schools usually are slighter in size compared to big city schools
St Mikes Center and some of the O and D Line were big .........but no one on that squad stood out to me in the athletic department.

who and how did your squad score the 3rd quarter TD while I was still at Tim Hortons?

Other than a couple of special teams plays by St Mikes ........ your boys pretty much stayed disciplined the whole game and put them in 3rd and long much of the game

They generated little on offense, turning the ball over on downs numerous times

I agree that coaching prowess was evident between the two squads

Were you in the stands today or at field level ?

Is # 11 ok ....... took a low shot near the end ........ limped off

He is just fine. He got the first TD of the second half, to total 4, and I think #2, 16 and 47 got the others.
He got 6 offers after the game. Not sure who from, but his Mom was very pleased. He may be the hardest working kid, every shift in hockey, every play on the field, that I have ever been around. Such a great athlete, now proficient in football and hockey. #16 first played QB last year....has never lost a game. Great athlete too, team star in hockey, lacrosse and football now.
Western, Mixmaster, Guelph, Queens, Saint of X guys were all behind us during the game, I'd imagine there were a few more around. I saw some folks with YU toques too, but have no idea who those folks are.

Dream season for the boys!!!
