Well so much for the hopeful good news from Joe Haden yesterday morning(READ THAT HERE). It appears the Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback is counting down the days until the NFL legal tampering period begins. That means he’s anticipating a departure from Pittsburgh to the highest bidder.
He posted this tweet yesterday:
Now, once Haden hits the open market he might not like what he sees. There are some varying reports on what Haden should expect to see from the free agent market when it opens. He’s considered to be a starting cornerback to some, but he’s definitely lost a step or two. Pro Football Focus predicts that he will get a one-year deal with 5 million, while Bleacher Report predicts two-years 13 million.
The Steelers have nearly 29 million in cap room, and create a TON more with the restructures of TJ Watt and Cam Heyward. So the contract that Haden receives would be a drop in the bucket. But maybe Haden has soured on the idea of returning. Or maybe the Steelers just aren’t interest at all, which would be hard to believe. His leadership traits alone are worth a lot to the Steelers young team.
Regardless, Haden will either find what he’s looking for on the open market, or get an eye opening experience about where teams believe he is at in his career.
