Joey Porter Jr.............................. not dad

When he gets the contract at around 30M per year it will be stale by game 8. Most here will then complain he is overpaid. Just like TJ.

I think his effectiveness will fade over the next 2 years. Then we will want to dump the contract.

He’s 26 yrs old and CB historically fall off big time at 30yrs old (obviously exceptions to the rule).

The odds of a second pay-changing contract is minimal at that age 30.

He is wanting payed as he knows this is his last GIGANTIC contract.

Having his Paw whispering in his ear, is a determine too.

Can’t blame the kid, but also know the Steelers have all the leverage and if something don’t happen real soon it will all come to a head.

The dumbest thing Joey can do is miss games because at kick-off time the Steelers quit negotiating.

Missing games will cost him heavy fines / credibility with team mates / and risk eligibility of status with the league.

I recall that at the time of the 2023 Senior Bowl and draft interview process, Tomlin asked Ike Taylor if he thought Christian Gonzalez was a Steeler. The consensus of the two of them was that he wasn't... and we wonder why they could never find CB talent during Tomlin's tenure.

That said, JPJ has been one of the best ones they drafted under Tomlin. As the dollar is debasing (and has been more noticeably so since 2020), it will be worth even less in the next couple of years, and contract prices will balloon in the coming years.

I think the Steelers should get ahead of this now and get JPJ signed to a 4 year contract for $120M per year with $100M guaranteed. That would be fair given the market rate and his talent level.

It's hard to understand how they've botched this so badly. No actual contract talks until opening week? Apparently, the current regime doesn't care for him, or they are trying a strongarm tactic right as the season hits...or both.
I doubt any of that is true, at all. You haven't heard anything official from either side and likely won't. All we know is what talking heads make up to drive clicks. His agent is the driving force in all of this in my opinion, not the team, not Joey. I think his agent's priority was to set the market with Gonzalez first then get Joey done. I have little doubt this will get done by Friday and that is what I expected all along. I think all the angst and gnashing of teeth by fans and mainly the media is all manufactured drama.

JPJ needs to talk to Lev Bell and see how this **** worked out for him. Here we are years later and bell says he wished he would have signed the contract the steelers offered. if he had he may have gone down as a Barry Sanders 2.0...

Sorry guru, I think it's two sided and both are guilty.

He can miss like 4 games I believe and then return and be good. It is the system that is in place. nothing more...nothing less. The fines in the end will be minimal after he gets his pay day.

They have to drive clicks to pay the bills. Our contributions help but I am sure they are not enough.
The days of before the CLICK BAIT articles.....Now you read them and they are simply putrid reads. And we help pay for this crap. I am the actual dummy. I pay for them to put S H I T articles out. Here I was thinking I helped pay for the indepth good fact finding articles. Apparently I am the FOOL!!! Go Figure...

The fines can be waved by the Steelers and those fines can add up on a rookie salary.

You sure you are not confusing missed games with eligibility of year towards completion….?

Either way, they will get it sorted out.

I don’t think you are paying for actual articles, I think your contributership pays for the operation / maintenance / up-keep.

The articles generate advertisements, thus the payed writers.

I think it cost(s) a lot more than many here think to operate this site.

I’m sure Justin will correct me if need be.

In any event, I’m happy to contribute as this is the best STEELERS site there is.

Thank You stillwright for you post(s) and your contribution to this site.!!!

The articles aren't normally terrible; it is the headlines that infuriate me. But that is a media wide issue not a SteelerNation alone issue.

Porters team telling the world he wants to be the highest paid cb in the league in a "set the market" contract.
Single dumbest move he could have made.
Leaves him few options

1. He put himself in a situation where playing out the year and not performing like the #1 nfl CB makes him look delusional and gives the Steelers all the leverage and another season proving he's not worth top dollar.
2. He plays and stays the same or regresses with performance and penalties, his value really takes a hit.
3. He sits and he's forever hated in the Steel city and labeled a cancer. Another year older. Another hit.

The only option with upside is him playing like the #1 in the NFL. We all know thats not in the cards. Even Joey himself.
He's pushing for pay now before his stock inevitably goes down.

The FO doesn't like JPJ as much as many of you do. Rooney doesn't like when players or agents make noise. I still think he really doesn't want to be here. Rooney senses it too.

He wanted the market to settle out but he doesn't want his place in the market. He wants the most after the rest got paid.
And that's delusional on his part. Those that perform the best get paid the most and he's simply not at the top of that list. The 6th to 10th best corner doesn't warrant the most money. Keep seeing articles stating that he can't decide if he'll play on Sunday.

Do you have any facts to base this on? I don’t see this at all.

Rooney also had a "sense" that Tomlin would win a SB game in the past decade....how did that turn out?
