Joey Porter Jr.............................. not dad

I think he has to go on the field and play now.

The Steelers won’t negotiate with him now that the season has started, it doesn’t appear anyone has stepped forward with a trade offer the Steelers would be satisfied with (which says something about his value in the market), and he risks damaging his value by being perceived as a bad actor if he keeps sitting out or claiming some bs injury-but who knows what’s in his head or what his camp is telling him
I agree, if he doesn't go play and show what he can do, he will only look like more of a Diva and his value will plummet. He is being an idiot. I am sure they offered him a fair deal versus what he is making now and no less than what he will get franchised next year. He is sinking his own boat and trade value.

If he plays this game and misses a full year of playing, he'll be playing somewhere next year on a one year prove it contract. It is hard to come back and be the same after missing a year. It can be done but... Heck, look at Lev Bell. He very well could have had a HOF career if he stayed in Pittsburgh. He played his games and was nothing when he started playing again.

The money JPJ is losing for not signing with the Steelers before the season will never be recovered. He lost $25 to $30 million that he will never recover. Dumb move by he and his dad.
I would tag his *** next year. Make him sit or play for what would be fair money.

If the true measure is Super Bowls which is what most of you say it is, then I don't see any difference. You also stubbornly refuse to acknowledge the importance of outside revenue streams for other owners. I wouldn't trade our franchise for any of the ones you mentioned. Whether you want to accept it or not, it is a fact that the escrow clause in the CBA dramatically affects the Bengals and Steelers more than any other team due to the owners' financial situations. Both have done pretty well regardless, but you can only have so much tied up in escrow with limited cash flow. Cash flow and profit on paper are not the same thing. I owned a profitable business and was still cash poor due to inventory on hand being paid for with money that was profit. Escrow for players is basically the same thing.
How can the Steelers be worth $8.7B, Arthur controlling at least 30% by NFL rule and the owners, all of them, not have enough money from annual profits of around $150M to enable an operating balance to handle escrowed funds? Those escrowed funds would fall off escrow as used annually.

This is a business decision, or, more likely a red herring to deflect from ownership's simple lack of re-investmemt in the team.

Yes, and we add to them annually. Again, the difference for the Rooney's is the Steelers are their sole source of income. The "value" of the team is meaningless unless they are selling or borrowing against it. is imaginary money Unless you want to be like a certain party and tax unrealized net gains and net worth.

Fun fact.....if true. A friend just sent this to me today.

Klint Kubiak is the Raiders 3rd highest paid head coach on their payroll THIS YEAR behind Pete Carrol and Jon Gruden and just in front of Josh McDaniel and Antonio Pierce.

When you have the extra cash you can do this....pay multiple HCs. Even when they aren't even coaching for you any longer. This would never happen in Pittsburgh.

I appreciate JPJ for wanting a contract extension, but holding out this point is dumb and the team needs to figure out this "injury" thing and start fining him for missing games. You're also right, he'll never make up the last money he passed on this season. If and when he eventually signs elsewhere, it's highly unlikely he'll play out the contract and lose out on another potential $50 million (that is IF he gets $100 million in guarantees).

Ben publicly called out the Steelers for being cheap
They have been cheap in the past, well documented.
They have overpaid DK, Herbig, Washington the past 2 years.
They went from being cheap with guys like Bell who produced to overpaying for backups and second rate talent.
Two things can be true at the same time.
It sounds like you are playing both ends just to criticize Rooney
They were not cheap with Bell, they offered him top dollar, they just didn't guarantee enough for his liking. See my discussion with Avoid Lloyd. Steelers stars tend to get their money guarantees or not.
They kept a near paralyzed Shazier on the roster to get him enough seasons to get into Vested Vet Programs... that meant still paying him and keeping him on PUP..

I mean, they haven't really been shady ********. They just werent total saps when AB wanted to renegotiate every offseason or Bell turned down the contract he wanted a season before and lost millions because of it.

The owners of the bears and lions are having significantly more success than Rooney in the past 10 years and are in the the range of his net worth. Your argument of net worth limiting Rooneys ability to compete and sign players has been debunked with your own article

Stop playing games trying to pacify his entitled *** and start fining him. If he wants to sit out the year, let him. Franchise his *** next year, if he wants to sit out again, see who wants a DB that hasn't played in 2 years. See how long he can go on not making any money.
This is my thinking. If all teams did this maybe players would stop acting like entitled brats. Most teams would offer players fair contracts with some room for negotiation

The league forced them to divest their horse racing and gambling operations a while ago because it was a bad look for the league to have *cough* owners involved in gambling *cough* so as I recall that stuff got handed off to other family members not connected to the Steelers.

I was thinking something in that line.

The NFL is partnered with several gambling giants, one of them being Fan Dual.................... How ****-ed is that?

Ron you are correct about other family members handling the gambling interests etc.

When Art Sr. died he left his estate equally to his five children BUT provided that Dan would run the steeler organization with the right to buy out the others shares if he desired.

They all got along but as they aged one or two of the siblings want Dan to buy out their shares. Even at that time it was so expensive he would have had to borrow $$$ to buy them out and the League refused his request because it apparently exceeded the debt limit that ownership could have. Instead he brought in some private investors including, I believe Nolan the movie producer and others (Accusure owner?) to be investors to buy out the siblings.

I think Art II is still the ownership manager but he has to answer to more than just his immediate family.

Why do I bring this up?

Perhaps they have put their "foot down" with all of these guaranteed up front contracts.

As for JPJ, perhaps it's time to put him on the IR to free up a spot on the roster for a CB that wants to play.

He is under contract for this year. He is not holding up his end of the bargain. Not an honest businessman. Finish him!

Porter and his “back” are back on the injury list. This is some tiresome bullshit. Put his *** on the injured-reserve.

as others said, the league took a hardline stance on it..

They played the " Gambling is bad" card, but the reality is there were a bunch of Rooneys with ownership stakes in the Steelers.. Not just Dan and Art.. the others gave zero ***** about Football. They were using Steelers Profits to bolster their floundering Racetracks.

Forcing them to pick one or the other paved a road for Art and Dan to buy them out.. and concentrate solely on football.. its not as bad as it looks..

The Fan Morning Show is reading my stuff.
This morning they suggested putting JPJ on IR until he decides his back or his feelings aren’t hurt any more.

Not the first time. Couple years ago they repeated something I posted here verbatim.
They had to have read my stuff.

I think that's the consensus of everyone not named Porter. I get trying to get the best deal for yourself that you can, but Jr may well be destroying his future in the process.
