Not uncommon. Towards the end of a career many fade or burn out. Comedians become less funny, etc. Just the nature of the beast, getting old sucks. There's no question he had no peer in the booth when he started, but the last 2-3 yrs it seemed like he dropped a bit. Almost like a parody of himself.
This is true. I was at a BBQ place in Van Horn Texas around 1992, and they had photos of John all over the walls. The waitress told us that he traveled through there often and always stopped in to eat there. She said something to the effect of "we love when his bus pulls in"Was it true he didn't fly to games? That he traveled in a bus? It would be ****** and grueling as a broadcaster but wouldn't it have been impossible as a coach. Especially on the West Coast. If you played in Pittsburgh on Sunday wouldn't you have to leave Friday latest.
Yeah I looked it up. He gutted out air travel as a coach, but suffered from terrible claustrophobia and a flight in '78 he had a panic attack and he never flew again. This is true. Yeah the numbers just catch up.The other one is the Madden Cover Curse. Most of that is attributed to the fact that uts usually a top player who despite playing a violent game has been healthy and then tge numbers just catch up. But then you get the Antonio Brown ones. Like he seemed all world and it unraveled really quick.
But at the time no one really knew it. He had some incidents but clearly they were comfortable putting him on the cover and he was a superstar in Pittsburgh with a million dollar smile.Yeah the numbers just catch up.
Antonio Brown is just bad life choices all around
I think his close circle knew it. According to Ryan Clark he showed flashes of that behavior after he got his contract in 2012.But at the time no one really knew it. YeahJohn Madden reminded me of Myron Cope in the booth. Just spill out whatever comes out of your mouth, even if it's not easy to comprehend to the listener. Classic voice and mind. Will be missed.
Oh I Don't hink he got cursed by suddenly becoming an *******. He was always an *******. The curse was it coming to clear light.I think his close circle knew it. According to Ryan Clark he showed flashes of that behavior after he got his contract in 2012.
The money could’ve changed him, the Burfict hit could’ve changed him. I lean more towards the former. It’s easy to claim CTE and get away with stuff in public. People fall for it everytime
Not to sound like too much of an *******.......but let’s keep it to John Madden. There are enough AB is an ******* threads.Oh I Don't hink he got cursed by suddenly becoming an *******. He was always an *******. The curse was it coming to clear light.
Tomlin was roundly praised for keeping it under wraps. I'm the opposite. He shouldn't have let it fester. They should have dealt him for big picks.
And without getting into a Covid argument if he falsified documents about his vaccination on top of all the other **** his season should be done.
Geeeez I had to look up John Rauch. Great record 33-8 with the Raiders. He left cause he wouldn’t put up with Al Davis. It’s a wonder that Madden did,I can only imagine some of their conversations. Somehow I tend to doubt Chuck would have gotten along with Davis. On the ESPN doc on Madden Al Davis said his first choice to be head coach in 1969 was Colts DC Chuck Noll but he was hired away by the Steelers. Imagine Noll with the ready but Raider team Madden inherited from John Rauch ,12-2, and just off a Super Bowl appearance. They would have won 6 or 7 Super Bowls without the spectre of the 70s Steelers. Chances are the Steelers would never have become the gold standard franchise they became without Noll being hired. Talk about dodging the proverbial bullet.
