JPJ Contract

Probably a 2nd or 3rd round pick
If that is the best offer the Steelers get than they simply hold onto him and get his services for another season and pick up a comp pick afterwards. I personally think we could get two #1's.....possibly three from Cleveland.

I might be the only one that actually misses the entertainment of when Coach was here. 😆

Agreed. I just think it is time to go get a franchise qb. We should do everything and anything to make this happen.
The more draft capital they can muster up the better. Don't want to trade Joey or highsmith but if that is what it takes to get the next Ben, have at it
I am OK with trading Highsmith but not Joey......Highsmith is older and been injured and we just inked herbig but if I'm not gonna get a 2nd I'd rather roll the dice this year in Aaron's last year

I don't see why there is so much dislike for the young man. Maybe because is of his dad. I don't know. Whether he deserves $28 mill plus a year or not. He isn’t getting in trouble on or off the field. No more flamboyant or cocky than any other player.

I think the refs have called flags on him on half his flags that other CBs are not. He follows the number one WR all over the field.

Earlier I stated he starts his negotiating at around $30 mill. I still stand by that. If he signs it might be for lower. Heck. His starting point might be higher.

I wonder where Herbig's starting number was? I can't imagine it being any where near $25 mill. I would have laughed at anyone who suggested he would get the contract that he did before he signed it.
I don't know him. He might be an awesome person.......just certain personalities I appreciate

Probably 2nd or 3rd round pick, I’d want a 2nd
Come on AL

"A 2nd or 3rd, I'd want a 2nd"......if you traded Porter for a 2nd and I was the owner I'd fire you lol
He was the 32nd pick and he's outperformed his draft slot with ease. You don't give up a 4th year CB1 with shut down skills for a 2nd. He's our frigging CB1 and a very good one. They don't grow on trees

He pressed me into an answer, I don’t want him traded, and it’s not going to happen-getting rid of a promising young player who we drafted is the most un-Rooney thing ever

I don’t think he’s a top 10 guy, yet, thus he’d get a 2nd round hypothetical pick IMO, not that it’s going to happen

We might as well debate if Sydney Sweeney came to my door tonight would I want her in a bikini or a tight black dress? That’s something that won’t happen that I would like to happen…

BTW .......I dont particularly care for JPJs personality. I'll never buy his jersey and as much as I have defended him here deserving elite pay its not like I've been feeling this way for a while. I've always known he's very good. I just saw this thread and really wanted to dig in to the details. I'm an obsessed googler........I think it's a mental ocondition lmao

I'm telling you the more I researched Joey from a metrics standpoint the more shocked I was. Hes f-ing good.
Are you a lawyer, accountant or engineer in the real world?

Only one comp pick. You're not envisaging two first round comp picks under the franchise tag?

Pressing Sweeney would be the better answer

The argument for it is first off, it ain't your money. Second, if that is the going rate for a good young corner, then that's what you pay. Thirdly, the Steelers haven't had a good, young corner in a long time. All that said, I agree he isn't there yet. I'm squarely on the fence here, as you can tell.
The 10th highest paid CB is 19.5/yr. He is arguably top 10 despite the talking heads not feeling he is. So he should be a bit more realistic about where he is currently or bet on himself to play to the level he's looking to be paid then get the big $

Assuming an undersized pass rusher with injury history can stay healthy as a fulltime starter is a big gamble. We need all 3

Good points.

Good points.
Yeah but some of those contracts are old. They keep getting ramped up.....you almost have to take the ones signed this year or last year and up the last years. Can't take a contract signed 2 years ago as a basis.....the inflation rates in the NFL are flat out stupid

Very true. I was more responding to the idea he advanced about him betting on himself with a big year. I like motivated players.

Yep. We either see a ridiculous raise like the Browns did with Garrett (nearly $5 million more than the previously highest average/year or paying a guy like Trevor Lawrence the same or more than a player like Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen.

Not sure I agree on this. If you mean they will never be bad enough to draft top 10 then yeah I see that but I don’t know if spending on defense is the only reason they stay mediocre

I do think as stillright says their refusal to believe they can’t contend every year impedes it.

They need to bite the bullet and give up capital to move into the top 10 for their guy at QB when they have the chance
The Steelers already have the top-paid defense in the NFL. They've had it for five years running. It's gotten them nowhere. What I'm saying is if they continue to sign more defensive players like Porter and Benton to bloated contracts, they won't be able to afford a true franchise quarterback -- and we won't need to be concerned with where they will be picking in the draft.

I see you point, and don’t like the drunken sailor spending on defense either, the new Watt and inherited Ramsey contracts could end up being two of the worst ever for us, hope I’m wrong

But they probably don’t get their franchise QB in free agency because that almost never happens. So they draft one and by the time you half to really pay him a lot of these contracts can be off the books. I’m more concerned about surrounding the QB they draft (probably in the top 10 overall) with a great offensive roster and spending more money there
