No surprise here! Justin has a bad taste of being pulled after a 4-2,start and never regaining the top spot when Russ started the slide.
I think more than anything he wants guarantee of starting job and may not trust Tomlin.
He gets to FA I think he’s gone and then we’re stuck with Russ who the Steelers will say they wanted all along.
I’ve seen enough of Russ in his eleven game audition. It’s like I said before last season…. Takes a lot of sacks, doesn’t use the middle of the field, and has very limited mobility. I have a feeling he’s going to be the guy. I don’t think there’s any market for him.
I felt the legit liked Kenny. I do not see them having anyone to reach for at 1.21. There are what three QBs projected in that round. There are like 8 teams needing QB. Now a couple will get a vet but if you need a qb and you are taking one of those dudes besides Maybe Darnold or perhaps Fields......you are likely going QB anyhow. Giants, Jets, Atlanta, Browns, just off top of my head are for sure in market. Then like the Colts, Raiders, Seahawks, no draftworthy QB is going to make it to the Steelers.
Do you really think dart is going top 20?I just don't believe there is one for the taking. Kenny was the first QB taken on a poor crop. There is 3 guys listed as first round picks currently. And not a chance they last, none are really worth trading up for and the Steelers don't have much to leverage on that trade.
I think the best thing to do in the situation we are in is to fire Tomlin. They've been nothing BUT setting the team back for years for how long now? Nothing changes. Clown-lin in charge is bad, bad for Steelers football.
But as long as he leads a non-losing season.
Could be, but he definitely played it correctly. No surprise here! Justin has a bad taste of being pulled after a 4-2,start and never regaining the top spot when Russ started the slide.
That would be the smart play.I think more than anything he wants guarantee of starting job and may not trust Tomlin.
Just means a better chance of seeing the end of the MT reignHe gets to FA I think he’s gone and then we’re stuck with Russ who the Steelers will say they wanted all along.
Would be another Kent Graham signing.I’ve seen enough of Russ in his eleven game audition. It’s like I said before last season…. Takes a lot of sacks, doesn’t use the middle of the field, and has very limited mobility. I have a feeling he’s going to be the guy. I don’t think there’s any market for him.
Browns always doAt this point other than the Steelers who needs starting qbs?
Its a pretty qb starved top end of the draft. He could get Daniel Jones'd pretty easily.Do you really think dart is going top 20?
The common mistake, and I am not directing this to you, just replied here...Fields is developed as much as we can possibly expect him to be. Our offense is not set up with enough WR's to accommodate him in the only offense he may be good at...which is not anything the Steelers have in place...we need a few wr threats at all levels of the field, so he has quick options...not just " Hey maybe I should run the ball again here" AB had Hines, Santonio, ...etc.Not really unless they give him a multi-year deal. In fact, any QB they overpay with a multi-year contract would set the team back for years. Right now, until they can find the right QB, go with cheap, short-term stopgaps. Even holding out for Fields to develop, they should not overpay.
It definitely seems like Fields is probably their best option for next season, but they're not willing to make the type of financial commitment to him he seems to want and will probably get from someone else.
Right now, it is kind of frightening to contemplate what the Steelers might be putting out there at QB in September. Fields might look like Warren Moon in comparison.
It's come to the point giving Mason Rudolph a call almost seems like a decent idea, assuming he would even answer seeing the Pittsburgh area code.
Rudy actually fits the Tomlin/AS system
Can play under center so PA would improve
Runs best when not improvising
But yeah…he’d have to be desperate to answer that call from Mike. But he as well as the Steelers may very well both find themselves in desperate situations
So going into the offseason the teams that needed a starting qb were:
The Steelers
The Raiders ( now the Seahawks)
The Jets
The Giants
The Titans ( assuming they are done with Levis)
The Browns (Watson may still miss half the year)
There arent any QBs that are absolute year 1 starters, but probably 2 that may be used that way..
The Free Agency class is 4 deep on potential starters
Darnold, with one good year under his belt
Old man Rodgers
Old Man Wilson
Justin Fields.
Fields is the closest thing to Hurts or Lamar available
Ive always been skeptical he wasnt going to end up being insanely overvalued when he hit UFA...
His best bet is taking a one year lesser backup deal on a team where they develop qbs great... say, SF... then taking his pick from better teams next season... i dont think any of the current ones looking for qbs are good for qbs... though he would have a fighting chance here with a years experiance
But he probably will just chase the money
We'll bring back Wilson and sign Metcalf and have our own Legion of Boom Boom. Vomit.Carr got 40M. That's unbelievable. Fields will be overpaid....by some team. Steelers will wait. They will pick from the remaining pool after the dust settles. I'm starting to think Russ will get little interest from the rest of the league. Tomlin will welcome him back with open arms and a closed play book. He will be overpaid too.
It's debatable how good Russ ever was. He was a Rooney pick all along and you know how that goes: IF the bossman wants a player, that player is gonna play. Similar to the way Art thought Harris was the pick at RB; no matter how much the info. said "wrong choice" he stumbled on and on until he was proven wrong as rice. He thought he was getting Derrick Henry but instead he got Trent Richardson and didn't know any better. No surprise here! Justin has a bad taste of being pulled after a 4-2,start and never regaining the top spot when Russ started the slide.
