Kahn extended to 2028

Colbert was a buffoon in Detroit, a genius under Cowher, back to meh under Tomlin.

Donahoe was a genius with Cowher, a buffoon in Buffalo.

Cowher is still the most underrated coach in Steeler history.

I don’t underrate him, he may not be a Noll, but he has a Tomlin beat by a mile.

I believe that with a 1WR, 1RB, 3TE alignment they could be very dangerous, especially with a QB willing to make the throws no matter what the HC says.

This could be the year as Rodgers is saying this is it, so there is no down side for him to go rogue. It’s not like he is looking for a 26 contract. He signed for 25 because he wants one more chance at another ring, and I can’t see him WILLINGLY playing with one hand tied behind his back. Hopefully he uses the whole field and all options. If he does and it works there is no way he listens to Tomlin when he tells him to “stop it”. The public outcry would be deafening if Tomlin tries to stop him. If it doesn’t work then he will be left to slink away in shame when he is replaced.

A bold prediction that the new rookie RB will have more receiving yards than Warren.

One thing though, they took the pass away from the Najee arsenal so Johnson might get cuffed in that regards.

Apparently he has pass pro issues so he is probably gonna be down dependant. Not that you can't throw back flat, screen (was a never even with Ben), or swing on first down.

Turned over a lot of Noll's roster in a few years and was in the SB right after that. Impressive to say the least. You have to wonder what he would have gone on to do if he had a franchise QB early and his wife had not gotten sick. I'm sure we would have more to show than non losing seasons....LOL.

Interesting counterpoints... agree on waiting to see what the future holds.

I’d love to see Smith and Muth each get 100 catches and make up for some lost time exploiting the middle of the field and hear all of us crying “why don’t they ever throw outside the hash marks”

But as long as the offensive pieces come together with the aging HOFer, the revamped RB room and the trio of TEs + DK I’ll be a happy camper. Lots of variables with the amount of change.

Being a “Happy Camper” could quite possibly have nothing to do with camping.

Many things can contribute to this phenom that don’t meet the eye.

Such as possibly a first down pass inside the hash-marks, which could be translated as getting to first base and scoring all in one play………

Walking along the shoreline and finding a “square-grouper”, if you’re into that kind of thing……………

No cavities at the dentist office…….

Clean Under-wear…….

Coolie paying for gasoline……………………

Lunar actually paying for beer……… and not *****-ing……………………

There are many other things that could be contributing to the “Happy-Camper” syndrome, but we as STEELERS fans can fully understand your position on this.

Many here are of the same sharing sentiment.

I’ll likely be a “happy camper” no matter what happens on game days…beer, bourbon and chicken wings are a game plan that always scores!

As long as the drops keep coming
The bacon keeps sizzling
The kayak keeps floating
The tires continue to contact the road
The strings keep vibrating
The tent doesn’t leak 🤣
A happy camper I will be

All the simple things will get me there despite what one of my two favorite teams does

Followed by about 10 years of suckage, sans a couple guys.
So Kahn had 3 drafts,
Colberts first 3 draft: Hampton, Simmons, El, Foote, Hope, Keisel, Troy, and Ike all starters on back to back AFCCG teams and a Super Bowl winning team.
So the next 10 years Ben, Heath, Holmes, Colon, Timmons, Woodley, Spaeth, Gay, Wallace, Pouncey, Sanders, Brown, Heyward, Gilbert, DeCastro, Beachum, Bell, Vince Williams, Shazier, Tuitt, Bryant, Dupree, Hargrave, Watt, Ju-Ju, Conner,
That's 4 HOF'ers, and several other guys that will be a nominee.
We can only hope Kahn's drafts are comparative to Colberts 18 years down the road.

And let's face it Tomlin is really the GM here, he interviewed the damn candidates.

I hoping something switched. I kinda think if he was the GM, they would have drafted Sanders or Milroe in the 1st this year. Especially Sanders. Tomlin loves his pedigree. That they didn't gives me some hope his influence might be diminished just a bit.

Man, I hope you're right, I'm not sure I've ever seen a HC interview the GM candidates.

Good move. Solid drafts and a willingness to make a splash in FA.
We will see how good the moves/drafts are. To date though we have yet to win a playoff game under him. He has a few Tomlinship's under his belt though.

I'll settle for LESS FUMBLES (and preferably NONE) from the rook...

Some revisionist viewpoint going on regarding this. Cowher and Donahoe did NOT get along and constantly butted heads on player evals. In fact Donahoe presided over the two worst modern era drafts PIT has had (post 1990). His first in 91 was Huey Richardson, the second was Jamain Stephens. Donahoe had solid drafts in 95 and 98 with some nice middle/late round guys sprinkled throughout his tenure. Of the players of impact, all were defensive. Considering the fact the defensive coordinators and defensive assistants included the likes of Dom Capers, Dick LeBeau, Jim Haslett and Marvin Lewis he had plenty of help with defensive players. His offensive players were few and far between and it ended in 1999 with Troy Edwards debacle. Cowher had enough of the offensive player freewheeling selections under Ron Erdhart’s passive suggestions and not listening to the offensive coaches he hired (Chan Gailey) when they pounded for specific players. Cowher gave Mr. Rooney a notice either get another DFO or another HC.

Colbert was home grown starting in the BLESTO player scouting group (he was the Steelers rep), got on with DET and worked his way up to get noticed for GM/Director of Operations positions. So him being a buffoon is laughable. When Donahoe was let go the Pittsburgh native came home.

What does Cowher being the most underrated even mean? Gheezus, he’s in the HOF (both team and Pro Football). Universally known and respected by his time on CBS gameday. What else is needed, a football field named after him?

Yeah Bleed the 98 class (Hines and Deshea Townsend along with Big Red too) was one of his two best drafts. 95 being the other one. 92 had three stalwart players. While the Edwards pick was wasted, he did steal Joey Porter in the 3rd.

I was looking at the drafts to see if what you said was true.. It kinda is/ was. More great defensive picks than offensive picks. I have a soft spot for Tom D.
If you look, many times he was reaching early for WR's. So many. Edwards was the last straw i guess.

Yeah, Donohoe unfortunately was brought up in an era where the GM/DOF position changed. Beginning in the early 90’s free agency was impacting player personnel decisions. A time where PIT couldn’t compete for the big money contracts. That coaching staff was loaded defensively. So plenty of opinions helped with player selections. Offensively, not so much under Ron Erdhart and Gailey at least was using the players he had efficiently, but still was ignored with players his coaches wanted. Had Tom D been working in the 80’s he probably would have been much more successful.

It’s interesting that Dan Rooney and Donohoe were tight. Knew each other a long time. Trying to remember where I read that Donohoe had “handshake” agreements for a contract as the DOF. It was a difficult decision for Mr. Rooney to cut loose Donohoe, but he knew he had a coach who was the pulse of the team. So a business decision was required.

Since we're talking drafts, GM's etc. Doug Whaley who was on the Steelers staff in 2004, he said they had Ben ranked ahead of Rivers, and they though Rivers may slide to them at 11, when Rivers went off the board at #4, they thought for sure Cleveland would take Ben, and when they took Winslow, he said he was looking around for the cameras like they were being pranked, LOL.

Tom, who was looking around? Whaley, Ben or Soldjia Winslow?

In his past time under Arthur Smith (a likely more accurate representation of what we’ll see)
he averaged about 40-45 catches 450 yards and 4.5 TDs. Factor in him being Tomlinized and ya likely get 35 350 and 3.5….or maybe Rodgers can overcome the Tomcepts and keep him around his previous Arthur Smith production? It will be interesting to see how that plays out.
Tomlinize. An incredibly descriptive use of the verb suffix. Appropriate, amusing, and sad all at the same time.

Nice work, FM.

Well I know he was a relative of David l. Lawrence. He had affiliation with blesto. And then in1985 something happened where he HAD to crap or get off the pot and take a position. I'm not sure of the progression, but I think it went thru blesto and then to player personnel with Steelers.
