Kaleb Johnson Traded to the Packers

So a great job in your eyes is drafting a guy in the first few rounds, then after realizing the guy sucks and should have never been drafted that high, trade them away in 2 years for a late round pick? Wonder why more GMs don't adopt that awesome strategy?
you either hit or you dont.. THis is better than keeping him on the roster for no other reason than the fact he was a 3rd rd pick.. We saw mike T do that all the time.

I think Khan has done well overall, but it's still a mixed bag. Here's how I'd categorize the guys he's drafted--this only considers the end product, not the value of the draft position. Zero franchise-altering players in 3 drafts so far and I'm not sure if there's a guy with that type of potential in the most recent draft.

Franchise Player:
None

Elite (All Pro):
None

Great (Pro Bowl):
None

Good (top-10 at position):
Joey Porter Jr. (future Pro Bowler?)
Nick Herbig (interesting case because he's an excellent pass rusher, but limited snaps)
Zach Frazier (future Pro Bowler?)

Above Average (top half of positional group):
Darnell Washington
Mason McCormick

Average (solid starter):
Keeanu Benton
Troy Fautanu
Payton Wilson
Derrick Harmon

Below Average (capable but replaceable):
Spencer Anderson
Logan Lee
Jack Sawyer
Yahya Black
Will Howard
Carson Bruener

Bust (big underachiever or never played):
Broderick Jones
Cory Trice
Roman Wilson (potential to move up this year)
Ryan Watts
Kaleb Johnson
Donte Kent

Factor in his trades and signings, several of which were heavily influenced by the coaching staff IMO:

*Aaron Rodgers is what he is.
*DK Metcalf has been underwhelming and the contract looks bad so far.
*Jalen Ramsey (see above).
*Michael Pittman - we'll see about this one, I think this will end up being good move.
*Patrick Queen has been better than Metcalf and Ramsey, but hasn't completely lived up to his contract.
*Isaac Seumalo was a good move and would've been even better if not for the injuries.
*Jonnu Smith - oof.

Kaleb was consensus 55th on the big board in 2025 and is 23 years old, maybe a team that knows how to run the ball will be able to get something out of him. The Steelers have been terrible at the ZBS for as long as I can remember.
Arthur Smith pick and even he couldn't get anything out of him.

Steelers have none of their 1st round picks on their roster from the years 2018-23.......everyone misses I suppose. In Johnson's case is 28 carries actually an opportunity? I don't think so. Just my take. Johnson wasn't a Coach M pick so he is giving up on him sooner rather than later. It is what it is.

I don't see how you can say black. Sawyer or bruener are below average. All 3 going into their 2nd season

I think you are drastically underselling Yahya, for where he was drafted he is a homerun so far. Particularly now they are playing him where he should be.

How many players do bad their rookie season? He had 28 carries.....I am not saying he will be anything. Simply wasn't given a chance between the 2 Hc's. Tomlin got a stick up his A SS on Johnson and Coach M simply figured it wasn't his pick and moved on.

Something is always better than nothing.
Yep. Johnson was going to be a cut. Just like Jones. We squeaked picks out for them........as you stated....something is better than nothing.

I figured he was getting cut so at least they got something for him. Disappointing pick, big back that didn’t play like a big back.
28 carriers is the disappointment.

what have they done? Role players.....special teams....

I don't think Black is a starter, but rather a rotational depth piece. Same with Sawyer. Bruener is a special teams only player at this point. You think these guys are more than that? Remember, I'm not considering value for where they were drafted, just what they bring to the table now that they're on the roster.

Again, I said I wasn't looking at players based on draft position, but rather based on who they are as a player. I think Black has a long way to go before I consider him to be even an average starter.

Sawyer had better stats than Troy did in rookie years

I still think you are underselling him, He is likely the starter this year at the nose based on preseason and the depth chart.

Eye test says he never was given a real opportunity. This is the NFL though....Not For Long.

I salute with yaz stillwright, but also acknowledge that part of the not given an opportunity was self brought on.

Good players find a way to get on the field of play.

Should he succeed elsewhere, then Tomlin can hold the blame.

I don’t wish bad on him but he is no longer a Steelers player and thus no time spent for me to keep track of him.

Nick Farabaugh reports that Kaleb Johnson to Packers for their 2028 sixth round pick.

He was getting cut regardless, so a little bit of something beats a whole lotta nothing.

Jack the new “Troy” Sawer……………… we’d best measure his head size……………… NEXT

(For me) I would put Frazier and Porter as great. I would take off any pro bowl designations as I think that in itself is a poorly run voting process.

Just what I see off the top without touching on every listed player.
