Next time you see Karl Joseph take the field on game day for the Pittsburgh Steelers, you won’t see him wearing #30, which was his previous number he was wearing since he signed before the season. Joseph has switched to wearing #8 according the the Steelers website.
#8 became available once the Steelers traded Melvin Ingram to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Many may not have been 100% sure what number Joseph was wearing as he has only been active for one game this season against the Denver Broncos in Week 5. He played a total of 8 snaps in that game, 2 on defense and 6 on special teams, and did not record a tackle.
SteelerNation may or may not get a chance to see Joseph wear his new number on gameday, as the only time he was elevated from the practice squad was because Cam Sutton missed the game with an injury. The Steelers could elevate Joseph one more time before they would need to sign him to their 53-man roster.
The #8 isn’t unfamiliar to Joseph, as it is the same number he wore while playing college football at West Virginia University. He wore the #42 with both the Oakland Raiders and Cleveland Browns.
