Here's the passing chart. Same old ****. Short passes. Few over the middle. Lots of completions to guys standing still.

I’m not going to defend Canada, or Tomlin, or Art the Deuce. All have mismanaged this team and some for a decade. That said, guys were open downfield. Pickett missed them. Hopefully he gets better.the problem is this is not 1 game. Sure, blame Pickett for being off target this game, but this trend is 3 years now with 3 different QBs. This is the design of the offense. It's like the deep and intermediate routes are designed to get the short stuff open.
Tomlin has hated the middle of the field since he got here… remember arians explaining to tge reporters after Ben was sacked like 9 times how quick slants don’t work in the nfl?the problem is this is not 1 game. This play sums up my issues with Pickett...this is the same thing he was doing last year. The Defense is in Cover 2, he NEVER looks off of Conner, even though his route runs him right into the 2 deep safeties. He has Robinson breaking open at 15 yards and instead he forces a ball into Conner for the INT. Canada is inept beyond belief, but a starting QB in the NFL has to be able to read a basic Cover 2 and know where he cannot throw the ball.
The best offenses are running the West Coast offense: San Fran, KC, the Rams, Green Bay with Rodgers and now the Jets with Rodgers(we still don't know if they'll be any good....but anyway) the Bungles run a hybrid WCO/spread. The rules are conducive to offense and the WCO is the way to go and that's what Canada runs(not pure WCO, but anyway), hence all the short passes. Our problem is the lack of NFL experience by our QB.Canada is a genius. He needed to use his red crayon, so he dialed up two ints.
You may be right, and you just as well may be wrong. He may never be "The guy." Let's hope Colbert had one last right pick in him when Kenny was drafted. The problem is NOT Kenny Picket, The problem is Picket should have Been taken in the third round by a team that had a QB he could sit behind and learn for a couple years, not by a team that's coaching staff is so inept that a future first ballot hall of fame QB struggled. I wont say we are the worst coached team in the league but we're well on our way.

That throw, based on where the safeties were at was NEVER going to split the safeties. In cover two, splitting the seam with a TE between the safeties is a common strategy…
The issue is you don’t throw that or even call that when the best coverage ilb in the league is on said TE…
Again the 9rs play metric tons of cover 3 and 2… we didn’t really do much to challenge it…
Secondly, in order to spit safeties, you have to have at least one WR running an out route, flag route, or even a go route to get at least one safety to split wide. We never SCHEME plays or set-up future plays...it is like Ray Charles playing darts. In cover two, splitting the seam with a TE between the safeties is a common strategy…

being 1/9 for 18 yards 0 tds and 2 ints wasn’t Canada. Pickett needs to get more accurate throwing and pushing down the field.
I have heard this song and dance since Bruce Arians. If you want to blame someone blame Tomlin and Art the piece of Deuce. Other than that it doesn't matter who was coaching when your QB is throwing 3 yards short and behind your wide open receiver. I don't care if Don coryell was the OC we aren't moving the chains with QB play like that.Have you looked at Matt Canada's philosophy?
Do you know what an outside passing game is?
'down the field' is where the jump ball: the "50/50" ball will be thrown. Besides that, look to the flats.
The 262nd pick had an OL that controlled the line of scrimmage and a running game. Give that to Kenny, like they did in preseason, and he'll be fine. Wide open receivers don't hurt either.I think there's going to be a great deal of pressure on Pickett following this performance. He did not look good on several plays where he had receivers that had run their routes properly, and didn't deliver the ball accurately.
The pass for the TD to Muth was perfect however. So it's a consistency issue, at this point in my opinion.
It's very interesting to me, that KP was very much outplayed by the 262nd pick of the same draft draft class where he went 20th. Is anyone out there saying Pickett is still the choice over Purdy? I guess what I'm really saying.... Is I wasn't thrilled with the KP selection. But he's our guy, and I hope he pans out.
I would have to bring Purdy here and send Pickett there for a month for a good assessment. A competent X and O guy can take you far.Would you take KP over their guy, today?
He looked pretty good, 6 months off of Tommy John surgery.
I'm not saying KP is a fail by any stretch. But their 7th round guy has rocketed out of the gate, and looks ahead of our guy at this point.

Yeah, the level of homerism from these rose colored glass Pitt fans is embarrassing. It was a pick your flavor for best QB in that draft with no clear consensus. Some said Corral, some said Howell, some said Ridder, some said Willis and some said Pickett. I was in the mindset that we let a FA like Mitch and Rudolph fight it out to start and let a later round pick sit and learn. I really don't see us in a worse position with Mitch or Rudolph starting over Kenny. At least not for the short term. I though a guy like Howell in the 4th would have been ideal. No pressure and low expectations. If he ends up not doing much you only wasted a 4th rounder. If Pickett is a bust we are set back 5 years. The problem is NOT Kenny Picket, The problem is Picket should have Been taken in the third round by a team that had a QB he could sit behind and learn for a couple years, not by a team that's coaching staff is so inept that a future first ballot hall of fame QB struggled.
