I would rather trade out down take jalen Collins with 1st rnd 2 pick then if nt Goldman is still available then him rnd 3 olb/de za@darius smith rnd 4 rb Langford then cb Rowe then load up on versatile tweeners at DT/de olb
This puzzled me too but then I read that Troy and Shamarko were both hurt at the same time ( except one game ) so Allen had to play and when the playoff game came around Allen had the game experience and Tomlins preference for veterans over youngin's took presidence. We'll see come camp and pre-season, I'm lookin' forward to seein' if he can play or not.
they were in force at wake forest camp ..seems our frontrunner in first round in kevin johnson
Stop, Tape...just stop.
Landon Collins was rated as a 5 star safety coming out of high school and, yes, he played on some decent Alabama defenses; but, none were "elite". Collins, IMO, had two bad games in three years. He has the speed to play FS and the ferocity to play SS.
While I like Sharmarko, he just hasn't shown any of us enough for him to even supplant Will Allen.
If Collins is there at 1.22 - he'll be the pick.
Apparently DL took issue with him also...right?
They had 2 games where Allen played over Thomas. Games 16 and 17. Then one game in the playoffs. This was Thomas' 2nd season and is generally considered by most to be the most growth of players in the NFL. If he can't start over a slow vet like Allen then something is wrong. Yes, he was hurt during the year. However the defense was 29th in net yards gained per pass, 28th in passing Tds, and 27th in passing yards. They were also 29th in average drive time.
I understand they wanted a vet playing but again this isn't Thomas' rookie year. Why not play the kid or at least give him a snap or two, if he is your future?
Even if they draft Collins doesn't solve any problems for us, like Thomas like Troy too short. Even old retread te's like Owen Daniels for the Ravens are killing us. We can not stop a tight end to save our *** not to mention tall receivers. we see a lot of double tight ends formations for a reason. We suk. Go back at look at the cheateriots game last year and give his bench time this season doesn't look like Thomas improved much. I'd rather convert howard jones, who is identical to kam chancellor when seattle drafted him, to safety rather than see another midget safety. And at 6-0 up against the big te's he is too short and he gets beat deep causes he carry too much weight. Mel can have him.
Well, if he was a 5 star High School player then i better not watch his stiff hips, mediocre speed and poor coverage skills. He's a sure thing.
Here are the workout numbers
Collins
40 - 4.53
Vertical - 35"
Broad - 10'0
20 shuttle 4.33
Shamarko
40 - 4.42
Vertical 40.5
Broad 11' 01"
20 shuttle 4.26
bench - 28 reps
Shamarko is a much better athlete than Collins. Collins will be a good player for a team that needs a hard hitting run stuffer. Shamarko can also fill that role and has more upside.
Collins played more like a LB than a S for Bama. That is not what the steelers need on defense. They have guys who can do that. If they think they need that they can probably get Laron Landry as a free agent.
More importantly, Collins will not be the best player available at the steelers spot.
I don't get them being high on Shamarko. They brought in W. Allen instead of playing him last year. He's basically a special teamer right now.
Just because I'm a Bama fan doesn't mean that I will approve of the pick. Let's get that said first and foremost...
I still disagree because I've watched the kid play every week and while his "work out numbers" don't exceed Shamarko's - Landon has the heart of a lion and the ballhawk skills of ol' Ed Reed. Will he ever be Troy 2.0 - no, probably not; but, he will make some team very happy once he gets on the field.
I still stand by my belief - we need to move up and get QUALITY over QUANTITY this year...
Good question and I'm sure that we're not the only one's asking it. He's an ace on ST's and he showed skills as a rookie, what happened ? A recent article said the whole situation could be blamed on his lack of practice time due to injuries, young players who don't practice...don't play. I guess we'll have to wait and see this year.
