Kovacevic: Fichtner looks increasingly clueless ?

The Bills defense ranked 3rd in the league in yards per pass allowed and 19th in yards per rush allowed.

And the Steelers run the ball a ground total of 15 times.

Clueless does not even come close to describing it.

Conner ran the ball 8 times with 42 yards. Can't figure why he wasn't used more?

Hmmmm it's funny we want the OC constantly run out of town since Tomlin has gotten here, first BA, then Haley, now Fichtner, who is the one constant, hmmmmmm?

Tomlin has a lot of say in the offense, go back 3 or 4 seasons in Baltimore, the game is close going into the second half, we're being ultra conservative, Baltimore is up by 3 and not doing a whole lot either, then Baltimore got hot and scored on two straight drives, we finally open it up in the 4th and Ben throws for almost 200 yards in the 4th, but it's to late and we lose.
After the game Tomlin was asked about playing so conservative, his response, "well they weren't doing much either so we were content in our play" Ben was asked about the offense opening it up, and he said "I would've liked to have opened it up earlier"

So the 100 million dollar Franchise QB wasn't allowed to open the offense up, that means the OC wasn't allowed to open it.
Mike Tomlin had final say.

Tomlin has done a great job this year. Such a good job that I think he deserves a 10 year guaranteed contract. From the Washington Redskins.

Great article by K..........It is Coaches responsibility to put their players in the best position to succeed and over and over our Steelers Coaches fail to do that.

This team would be better off with all of Haleys massive shortcomings

Again i know it’s recycling, but i bring in Whisenhunt asap... that guy has serious knowledge of the way to call an offense with a young qb... and he could fix the lines issues...

If Tomlin has truly taken complete control now of the D (he already had most of the control the last few years), then just fire Butler and Fichtner this year and start fresh from there. And, hire a damn QB coach. The OC is too ******* busy to do it. What Ben wants doesn't matter at this point.

If what Ben wanted mattered, BA would still be here. Fichtner was Tomlin's first hire, Fichtner is a Tomlin guy, not a Ben guy.

Ben is comfy with Fich. I doubt he is going anywhere as they won't want to risk Ben not being cohesive with a new O coordinator at this stage in his career. Not that I think he is doing a good job he isn't.

Our offense last year was 4th overall and the best red zone offense in the NFL with this same OC. Now we have two QB's that can't throw the ball more than 10 yards downfield and we expect the OC/HC to work miracles with them?

It's really simple, teams are going to stack the box to take the run away, take the short quick passes away and force our QB's to beat them with intermediate/deep routes, we've seen neither guy is going to make those throws unless our WR's are wide open.

I think we should've run the ball more vs Buffalo, they are very good vs the pass, and 19th vs the run, and we throw it 38 times, that **** has been going on before Fichtner was OC, alot of that is on Tomlin. Also that crap wildcat fumble in the redzone, that was the first play after the 2 minute warning, so they have a few minutes to stand there and discuss what play they wanted to run, Tomlin could've easily nixed that play, but it was more than likely his idea, plays in crucial situations like that are usually his call.

offense was good last year but we didnt get to playoffs. wasn't just cuz defense either... offense didn't come through when it mattered. same prob on offense as on defense as I see it... I grew up in the burgh so been at this along time.... problem as I see it: we can't impose our will on other teams. whether its good teams or a bad teams we can't just go out there and kick their *****. we can't line up on short downs and knock there *** off the ball offensively or defensively. started to see that at the end of chuck noll's era... first thing cowher, who grew up in the burgh, did when he took over was bring in a guy like Kirkland and problem solved. on offense he brought in the bus. if we keep Tomlin time to bring in some really good coordinators. guys that believe in winning the line of scrimmage thats how football is played in WPA. time the steelers start playing it that way again.

It doesnt matter if Tomlin had final say because he won't be cut, maybe if he has a decent OC making the X & Os That obviously Tomlin can't then maybe the Offense could resemble at least a decent one. The owner might put some heat into Tomlin to make him axe fichtner

Then Tomlin needs to hire someone like that, maybe Tomlin likes having control, maybe he doesn't want a superior X's and O's guy. Everyone keeps saying Fichtner is Ben's guy, Ben's hire, blah, blah, blah, when in reality Fichtner is Tomlins guy, they were friends long before their Steeler days, he is Tomlins first hire in 2007 I think.

But of course, he should have done that since they fired Haley. Our only hope is that he gets enough pressure from the FO, owners, media, fans to find someone worth the job title, Offensive Coordinator.

I thought I read it was 2nd and 21st respectively, but your point still absolutely stands.
