1. The Steelers had a walk-thru practice on Thursday. Rudolph got starters reps on Wednesday and Thursday, so he got a majority of the reps that week.1) How many reps did Rudolph get with the first string the week of the Lions game?
2) So you just know Rudolph is nothing but a backup. Wow, you are smarter than ever NFL decision maker out there. Just like those brilliant packer fans
3) Ok, so show me another or better example. Or are you saying we didnāt draft and groom Rudolph to be Roethlisbergerās replacement?
4) If Rudolph throws for 4000ish yards and a 2:1 TD to INT ratio we donāt look for a QB in the 2023 draft. If Rudolph isnāt showing improvement or consistently by December we probably see QB2 and or QB3 and go QB early in the 2023 draft.
Itās that simple.
2. I don't even know what this is suppose to mean. If Rudolph is such a high sought-after starter, how many NFL decision makers are throwing up a premium draft pick to acquire Rudolph? If the Steelers believed in him that much, why didn't they move on from Roethlisberger after last season when he was clearly done as a franchise QB. If the Steelers believed in him as their next franchise QB, why did they only give him a one-year extension that is paying him $3 million in base salary? It seems like some NFL decision makers are doubting his ability as a franchise QB,
3. I think the Steelers wanted to groom Rudolph to take over for Ben, but I am also 100% convinced the whole first-round grade is lip service.
4. Kirk Cousins puts up great stats, makes a lot of money, and does a great job leading his team to 7-8 wins a year. Maybe I have the Roethlisberger mindset, but I'm more interested in wins than stats.
You also cited Steelers Depot, so I assume you're referring to Alex Kozora, who is as good as it gets for film breakdown. Watch at 13:46 and if you don't want to watch, here's what he had to say:
But to me we've seen the best of Mason Rudolph. I think he's basically at his ceiling of being a spot starter backup, a serviceable No. 2 kind of guy who can come in and play acceptable for you or the kind of football that gets you a tie against an 0-8, and that 0-8-1 Lions team, but certainly I'm not seeing anything here that's elevating this play of others so significantly that it warrants, um, taking a chance of him being the future guy. I think he can be a capable and largely fine, although, far from exciting backup and that's really where he's at and that's what he was in this game and that's kind of where I see his future being. So if Pittsburgh what's to start him Week 1 next year, they're gonna get what they're gonna get, which is going to be just average at best kind of play, average to mediocre, somewhere in that range. Um, I don't want to be too harsh about that because a lot of quarterbacks can't et to that level. It is hard playing quarterback in the NFL, man, and be a capable backup is not me trying to be a slight against him, it's just recognizing that he is not a long-term guy, not a franchise guy, and to me, probably not even a bridge type of guy where you're a one-year starter, you know veteran to rookie kind of an option.
